Use all your products for my bio active setup...awesome product. I always recommend to everyone ...terrarium still looks like it did when I set it up ...thanks for everything !✌🏼 I’ve been curious about the ghost wood you offer and the sizes...maybe next video show us the sizes? Would def help me when I make my purchase
A sphagnum layer is a method nobody really uses anymore. It inhibits the breakdown of leaves it kind of ruins the whole bioactive process. The leaves will just matt on top of the sphagnum moss and not be able to break down into the substrate. Having the leaves on top of the substrate is best. The only reason why people used a sphagnum later was for humidity purposes however they figured out they can do the same by keeping a water table in the bottom of the tank and misting period when people stop using a sphagnum layer they didn't see any issues in humidity. By the end of the video you have the set up so packed with plants that you are reducing the overall usable space for the frogs to the extent that this tank is too small. Over planting a tank doesn't give any room for things to grow in. I'm sure you're going to comment below being rude you are actually garnering quite the reputation for being rude and we have so many people coming into our Facebook groups following your methods and we have to help educate them and they get aggravated because they spent a lot of money with you only to find out that things aren't being done correctly.
You have no idea how relieved I am to see this comment. I clicked this vid bc I just started my first biobuild for milks and wanted some layout ideas, but did he seriously just justify a no uvb stance by saying they’re floor dwellers? Whatever your (proverbial) thoughts are on uvb as a whole aside, milk frogs are literally arboreal… I immediately shuttered at how much misinformation is being spread to such a large following, so definitely not surprised to read about your FB group.
Ok I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought this tank was just extremely packed! Like I feel the space could have been better utilized. Not many climbing places up high
How long do these stay self sustaining and what level of care should I give to maintain the terrarium? Edit: I read another comment and you replied it’s a one done deal. That’s awesome!
Hi biodude... Quick question please if that's ok. I'm setting up a bio for a royal. How can I make sure that the cleaning crew have enough food to begin with? I heard somewhere about burying bits of mushroom throughout the substrate. Is this true? Thanks.
I love the biodude!! You really have something going here! I love your business, work ethic & personality in all your videos! You make me want to watch all of them! I originally got into the reptile/amphibian world by building my chameleon enclosure. I went bioactive & have increased my already huge plant collection throughout my house. Now, I was just given an old hutch to refurbish (another hobby of mine) & I have a 30 or 40 gallon tank just sitting in my basement so I’m super interested in hopefully installing that tank into the hutch. It fits perfectly length & width but some adjustments have to be made with height since one of the shelves is to low & needs to be removed. But I’m really interested in making a beautiful bioactive vivarium for some dart frogs! So any recommendations on videos I should focus on &/or advice you can give me on accomplishing this would be ultra appreciated. I know theres a lot of info but if you would pick the top 2 or 3 mistakes / problems / advice people come across building this type of vivarium would be so helpful. I’m literally just starting my research. Thanks for any advice you can give me! I’m sure I’ll be purchasing a lot from you during this process. 🤙🌺
My aunt had a group of cuban tree frogs living in the bushes next to her pool.I always wondered how they came to live there.I liked them, but I never kept any as a pet. Sometimes they would end up getting over to her wooden deck and under the door to her kitchen and she would hear them calling so she would have me come find them and get them back outside.
I'm completely new to all of this. how often are you supposed to clean out their terrarium? once a week? and when u clean it out do u have to replace all of the substrate?
The awesome thing about utilizing our products, is it's a one and done deal and you wont have to replace it! We have enclosures that have been up for 10+ years same substrate and everything! When creating a Bioactive enclosure it replicates a real life ecosystem so it is completely self sustaining once it's established and maintained appropriately.
As someone who's new to this, is there any cleaning maintenance required? Or if properly set up, never needed to clean except for places the bugs cant reach?
It depends on the type of enclosure you have along with the species it is for. Our customer care team can help provide any recommendations and further details if you send them an email (customercare@thebiodude.com)
I have a question can Leopard geckos eat pinkies or rat pups like the pink ones? Like is that part of their diet Because I saw it on youtube and I'm not sure if I want to feed it mice or rats to my Gecko.
They are technically toxic (some nice their digestive system is made for bugs) so should only be fed like once a year. but it can be a nice treat and many breeders feed one to get some extra boost for breeding. You mostly have to worry about bones and impaction. Overall wouldn’t recommend
Do you know if Amazon milk frogs can be housed in a palidarium with fish and inverts? Concerned about poisoning the inhabitants with the frogs or the frogs eating them. Thoughts?
Hey there! We would not recommending cohabitating the two for safety, as they are separate species with a size difference. Hope this helps! The Dude Abides
u have a question about some of the tree plants so some plants get feet tall but what if u only have like a 18x18x24 and you get a 6" plant hat can get 12 feet how does that work?
hey man, thinking about getting an american green tree frog or a barking tree frog n i wanna make sure do my research before doing so- what heating and or lighting do tree frogs need? so many websites say different things and idk what to do😂
green tree frog and barking tree frog are native to midwest America so you don't need really anything fancy. Anything in the low to mid 70s should be good and they can go up to low 80s and down to mid 60s but not recommended. If your place goes out of these ranges then you may need a heat bulb. Usually just an LED or UVB bulb for plants is used for these types of frogs :)
Hey there, you dont have to "clean" per se, would just need to occasionally spot clean the areas where the clean up crews werent able to get to the excess poo, and wipe the glass of any water spots! easy peasy!!
You kinda dont besides doing plant and animal quarantine as anything can be picked up anywhere even through shipping, you tend to them when they pop up. www.thebiodude.com/blogs/how-do-i-create-a-bioactive-vivarium/tank-hitchhikers
Friendly piece of advice, either lose the mask or stop pulling it up and down. It's really distracting and not how masks work :p On the video, great content as always!
Really annoying trying to listen to you through a mask! The video looked really interested but I had to switch it off because I could barely understand you
It takes me weeks just to set up a habitat to make it look good. The Dude just tosses this together in minutes and it looks amazing!

You did an amazing job!
I love your videos! I followed a different video tutorial for my Hourglass tree frogs, and they’re thriving!
That's awesome, I am so glad to hear it!

You should do a water base milk frog set up next. Could we make it a habitat-off? My tank vs yours lol?

At the moment I am building a rather large paludaruim and am bouncing between milk frogs and birdpoop frogs for my land portion....
In a different video, you said not to use BioVive on new set-ups less then 6 months old but here you are suggesting adding it from beginning?
I may have misspoke - its for terrariums that are 6+ months only : )
As someone who's new to this, is there any cleaning maintenance required? Or if properly set up, never needed to clean except for places the bugs cant reach?
no cleaning should be necessary.. except on the glass

what type of aglanemia plants did you use?
How many inches do I need for all of the layers

I have a question can Leopard geckos eat pinkies or rat pups like the pink ones? Like is that part of their diet Because I saw it on youtube and I'm not sure if I want to feed it mice or rats to my Gecko.
nah, its possible but you really shouldn't if you're giving it a proper diet

Hey there, well honestly all things are options to be food for others, i would house things alone for that reason.
can they live with whites tree frogs ?

do you ship your biodegradable set minus the isopds and spring tails overseas?

You don’t have to wear a mask to make a video.
When we have store hours open with clientele, we do per Harris County
