    • @VexxedSR
      @VexxedSR 2 года назад +4

Depends on the games really, if you're mainly playing story games and stuff like that at 60fps then you might as well go for a beefier gpu and cheaper cpu at 1440p as the CPU won't be utilized as much as the GPU is. If you're playing shooters or any competitive game you want the highest possible FPS that is also as stable as possible.

Nice vid and i just want to also point out that a common problem people say is that you get more FPS or larger cache. A LOT of people fail to realize is that you are comparing them with a 3080TI and people with a high end GPU dont really play at 1080P and LOW. So once you stick with mid range options like 6600 or 3060 then a 5500 is nearly identical already to the others. Others also state that but its not the max performance. And I ask them do you even have a Monitor that can handle 300 FPS. Most people buying this are probably just going to have 60-75Hz

(before the 5500/5600 launched), but if I was buying now it'd be between the 5500 or 5600 for sure, either is good. I'm using a B450, don't play games that would benefit from PCIe 4.0, and my GPU is only 3.0 anyway (1080 Ti). You should see a solid bump from your 5500; depends on the game, resolution, settings, etc., but in general it should be substantial.

Most of the times it's better to look for 2nd hand deals as you can get more performance for your budget. I was going to buy a brand new rtx 3050 for around £300(literally everything else was out of stock) until I found someone locally selling a 6600xt for £250 so I put in the extra cash into the build and found myself an ex display phanteks p360a mesh for £40.

@@topmech71 Mine is on a b450, but it is a Samsung b-die memory (3200 Cl 14). On the 5600G my ideal setting was 4133 cl 16 16 16, 1T command rate with gear down mode enabled. You can play with finding the ideal settings on secondary timings, and if you use the igpu for gaming, it's totally worth it, but if you use mainly a dedicated gpu, then fine tuning the memory for days might not worth your time. My voltage settings was: mem vddio: 1.45, mem vtt: 0.725, SOC voltage: 1.5. Now, the latter sounds extremely high compare to other Zen architectures recommended value, but on these chips, it's fine, and helps for stabilizing memory and the igpu's frequency. Speaking of, the ideal igpu freq was 2400 with ~1.3 - 1.35 APU GFX voltage, but 2500 was also achievable with fine tuning and higher voltage. Hope it helps. (but be aware, if your memory is not a Samsung b-die, your oc will probably not be this high)

I think many people looking at the R5 5500 will be looking at 1080p gaming …. Maybe a little 1440p as well. But in all honesty, budget friendly CPUs like this will be used with a GTX970 / 1060 / 1650 / 1660 or Rx 580 / 6600 / 6600XT and a few maybe a higher GPU so the GPU performance between all will be negligible. I personally have a higher end system, but I get grilled for using NVME PCI-E 3.0 storage and additional high capacity SATA SSDs for my game library etc instead of NVME 4.0 for gaming and storage. Also, here in Australia 4.0 drives are noticeably higher in price than 3.0 drives and I only do a little in the way of photo editing and just starting to get into video editing of home movies and my drives are more than fast enough and tbh …. For gaming a 4.0 drives may save you 1-3 seconds at best gaming load time's and Direct Storage is still years away from main adoption and use by the masses. I got my NVME 3.0 drives and high capacity SATA SSDs on killer sales deals new and just left me not needing to waste extra $$$$ for a the additional speed I don’t benefit from and I also got much larger capacities as well 🥰🥰

The 5500 is really cheap when compared to the 5600 like 1k difference in my currency but personally i say it's worth it. I don't think the 5500 is by all means weak and it's really budget friendly(it came in cheaper than what my 2600 non x cost back in 2018). It can also game fine in 1080p and even higher. Where it wouldn't matter between the cpu's is is if you actually pair it with a realistic gpu like a 6600 or rtx 3060. The performance will be negligible .

I said this already on HUB. But I still wanna spread it here.
Unless 3600 is 10-20% cheaper than 5500, then 5500 always be the better buy than 3600, especially if you are really into RAM OC.
With monolithic 7nm die (combined IO die and Core compute die), 5500 FCLK can clock like 2200mhz easily with 1.2v SOC (recommend is 1.1v, 1.2v is the last 'safe' borderline).
    4400mhz RAM sound good?
No Vermeer chip (5000 series with full cache) can do 2200mhz FCLK. So this is Cezanne advantage.
Upcoming Ryzen 7000 use 6nm+, so I think FCLK can clock as high as 2600mhz or more to support DDR5-5200 or higher by default. Or something like 1900 FCLK but UCLK and MCLK is double FCLK for an integer synchronize. With 1900x4, well, DDR5-7600

A lot of people overlook one important thing... different currencies different prices.
Where I live for the price of an R5 5600 I can get an R5 5500, 16GB 3600 RAM and a cheap cooler like the Arctic Freezer 34. As an alternative you can get a R5 5500 a cheap mobo when on promo and 16GB 3600/3200 RAM. Btw all the items I mention are new, so if you go with 2nd hand with the price difference you can get some nice extra stuff. Another option is if you get an R5 5500 and you were going to buy an RX 6600 for example with the extra cash you can now take an RX 6600 XT.
So while the R5 5600 is definitely better, the R5 5500 have it's place.

as a 2600x owner who wants to upgrade, what i think is the problem for 5500 is the placement. if i want to upgrade i would want some significant enough change to justify my spending. 5500 is roughly the same performance as 3600, and to make it worse, the same price (where i live). this makes me lean towards 5600 since the 'significant' gain i want to experience will likely be with 5600 instead of 5500. also, getting 5500 will be an extra hassle for me as i still am on b450 board without zen 3 bios support. so if i want to upgrade without any hassle, i'll get 3600 and if i want to upgrade for some 'significant' uplift to performace, 5600 is the obvious choice. sorry i left out 12400 since buying one means i have to spend for 2 items instead of one.
on that note, for someone who has way older machine and/or wants to have new pc from scratch i think 5500 can compete **IF** the price is lower than 3600, 5600, and 12400 (of any variant)

  • @milestailprower

I guess you should also be asking, do you *need* a 6 core CPU? A lot of people gaming will be happy with an i3 12100F, and can wait to upgrade when needs be.
Even though there are already videos comparing the i3 12100F and the 5500, I'd love to see a your comparison with the 12100F and the 5500. It's always useful to go back and look at the value when street pricing changes.
I would advise against a 5500 if someone is going with a 6500XT as a stopgap GPU. 4 PCIe lanes has shown performance degradation at PCIe 3.0 vs 4.0.
PCIe 4.0 may matter more in the future as GPU makers try to shave costs on their budget GPUs with limited PCIe lanes. That being said, "future proofing" can be a bit of a fool's errand because it's all guesswork.

Damn, those are some low prices. Here the 5500 is €135, 5600 €215 and 5600G €180. The 12400 is €215 and 12400F €195, but B450 is €30 shipped while LGA1700 starts at €90 shipped. AM4 board €30 and LGA1700 board €80. Makes the 5500 the most attractive option here, IMO.

If your going to test CPU you should test them in 4x games like civilization. As you may save a second or two on large games, waiting for CPU to do their turn.

At 1080p how many people are going to notice the difference in these 3 CPUs while playing a game with the FPS benchmark info off? Serious something I read in Maximum PC several years ago eluded to this and the benchmark trap.

For last decade been using AMD FX8320. One week ago, I bought a used Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E motherboard & Intel i7 8700 non K variant for $50 dollars total. Before that was able to snag a EVGA EVGA GTX 1080 SC 8GB for $40 dollars.
While the i7 8700 is not fast compare to the new stuff out on the market. It does offer me a nice improvement in both single core & multicore performance over the FX8320 I been using.

Honestly at it’s current price it’s not a horrible buy, it’s just wild that a Ryzen 3 3100 came with features this didn’t. At release price it was only about $15 cheaper, current price is rather reasonable

I'm with you man. The extra performance is nice, but if it comes at much of a premium, it ain't worth it. Plus, you'd be a fool not to go with B450 over B550 for ANY budget build IMO. Not sure if it's the same in AUS or the US, but B450 boards have been available BRAND NEW for

I actually don't like Intel 12th gen until prices drop more, but I do like the 5500 (€135) and 5600G (€180). the 5600 is €215 here, which is too much of a premium IMO.
      I also like the 10105F (€80, same price as 10100F) and 10400F (€135).

Which option is better: getting a Ryzen 7 5600G now and possibly upgrading to an RX 6600 later, or starting with a Ryzen 5 5500 and an RX 6600 with plans to upgrade the processor later?
Also, is using an integrated GPU alongside a dedicated GPU problematic, or is it a good idea? I'll mainly be using Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Blender, and After Effects.

interesting. i always thought you'd need gen 4 to be future proof but as you say, need a b550... can snap up a 5500 cheaper and use a budget mobo. maybe can upgrade my 2700 for better single core if i flip my old rig.

    • @HazewinDog

2700 to 5500 would be an awesome jump in single threaded performance! I personally bought a 2700X some years ago, but returned it for a 3600 (same price) pretty quick, due to my main game being single threaded. Performance increased substantially.

    • @andyshtroymish4997

@@lookitsrain9552 not exactly that. Simply put, vector graphics of modern APIs(starting from DX10) mean that your image is gonna be scaled to whatever resolution you desire to. "Colour-painting" of it's surfaces with textures shall give your videocard a harder time as your paint would weight more for thet extra wall mileage and thus, your CPU should be "OP" and more often than not "chillin'nwaitin' for that slowpoke graphics card". A margin for CPU to antialiasing is almost unnoticeable while scaling up the res so you simply get yourself in "GPU-bound" situation

The i5-12400 is the better deal, the problem is that any B660 board is going to cost you a fortune, and for that reason the R5 5600 is a better deal

    im using a R5 3600 :D
this processor is more than enough to game.
    R5 3600 + b450 (msi) + RX6500XT (PciE 3) were around 10percent slower than the R53600+b550+6500XT(PciE 4)
You dont really need PciE 4 for esports games. for other games it depends i would say
    edit:
using SAM ( smart acces memory ) can do 10% in general too ( bothe PciE 3 and 4 ) but it can go even higher but this again , depends on the game
