Not necessarily true, some things AMD staff have said in recent interviews as well as Lisa at Computex AND the leaker's rumor-mill all point to AM4 possibly getting a set of new SKUs in the future. Rumors on this range from even more budget friendly SKUs, to X3D/V-Cache versions of Zen3 12, 16 and even 6 core SKUs... to belive it or not, even Zen4 maybe getting a AM4 release somehow.
But either way I agree, even if that doesn't pan out, 5800X3D (arguably along with 5950X) remains the crowning jewel of AMD's DDR4 era and a phenomenal piece of technology.

I'm actually amazed how well my "old" Ryzen 5 3600 holds up to the 5600. There is no reason whatsoever to upgrade to a better CPU if you play in 1440p with a midrange GPU, like I do. Even in 1080p the performance increase is minimal if you play with a 6600 XT/RTX 3060 (probably even up to 6700 XT) or slower.

Here in Czechia, R5 5500 costs about 40 % less than R5 5600. Combined with very good deals on B450 boards, this makes R5 5500 a rather popular CPU. I would gladly recommend it with some cheaper GPUs, sadly the cheapest that is worth recommending is RX 6600 and I suppose the CPU can be the limiting factor in 1080p even with that one in some games. Still, if the budget was tight, I'd rather get this pairing than R5 5600 with RX 6500 XT :)

This is an excellent upgrade strategy. In general, the type of person who would be upgrading to the 5500 would be currently using an APU with a discrete graphics card, or a 1600AF or 2600(X) CPU Those with earlier Ryzen processors would often have motherboards of questionable compatibility and be much better off with a used 3600.

I went from my 1700 to the 5500 because the 5600(non X) here in the UK, at the time of purchase(and still) was £189 compared to the £111 I paid. Haven't tweaked it yet but straight out the box it's faster and (for me) more importantly stutters in games less. I'm sensitive to variations in FPS and frame timings, I'd rather lock my frame rate lower to achieve 60/60/60 than have it bouncing around all over the place. For a £111 part I perfectly happy with the chip and frankly at £78 more the 5600 is not worth it for me. If I feel the need to upgrade again I'll just wait until an 8 or 12 core Zen 3 part is cheap used in a couple of years when AM5 has all the AMD enthusiasts shifted over to it.

Even easy to cool, I just put my old copper slug Wraith Spire on it and it runs at full boost on all cores with precision boost overdrive enabled (plus a cheaky +400 Mhz on my RAM). For the £111 new inc VAT I paid I'm very happy with it, the upgrade is noticeably stronger than when I went for a drop in upgrade of a 4th gen i7 from a 3rd gen i5 on my pre-Ryzen build. On the other hand the 5800X3D games about the same as a 7700X. So, to me that's a pretty obvious choice if I want to hang on to AM4 for a long time as a gaming system.

Went from a 3600 to a 5900x paired with a 3080 in late 2020. At 1440p the uplift was from 0% to 30%+ depending on the game or part of the game measured. AC:Valhalla showed very little difference while games such as CP2077 and WD Legion where I use RT+DLSS showed up to a 20-25% uplift in certain areas (while driving fast in WD and running in areas with many NPC's in CP2077). Worth mentioning is that even in the games where the uplift was small (less than 5% in avg fps), the games feel more responsive and the number of stutters/hitches/microstutters are fewer.
Examples of uplift at 1440p according to TechpowerUp tested with a 3080 comparing a 3600x to a 5800X3D:
      Far Cry 5: 67%
      RDR2: 6.3%
      Metro Exodus: 3%
      Doom Eternal: 3.4%
      Civ6: 63%
      Borderlands 3: 71%
      Battlefield V: 20%
Overall the 5800X3D is on average almost 25% faster than the 3600x at 1440p according to their testing, but as you can see the games varies from almost no difference to "a whole new experience" in performance uplift.

I've just upgraded from a Ryzen 5 1600x to a brand new in box Ryzen 5 5500 for £86 because of an ebay voucher. I could have spent more for a 5600x but the 5500 costs so little while being massively more power efficient.
Electricity costs are criminal at the moment in the UK, so I will make my money back in no time, as my 1600x is overclocked at 4.1ghz at 1.37v and will hit 125watts of usage, and the 5500 will genuinely be cheaper to run and (painfully to admit) faster than my golden 1600x.
The fact that this is only about as fast as a 3600 isn't an issue for me personally because it was **CHEAP** and better for my needs, while having similar specifications. If I'm lucky I might even be able to get it to overclock, but I doubt it.

In gaming, 3600X is just tiny bit faster than 3600, about the same as 8-core 3700X, so naturally it will lose in absolutely everything. Often significantly, unless a GPU bottleneck exists.
For most AM4 owners on a limited budget, *5600* or 8-core 5700X (similar gaming performance) would be smarter buys.
Sure, 5800X3D is even faster than 5800X (on average, for gaming) and thus more future proof (for gamers). But if we take that road... does your motherboard support PCIe 4.0 (X570, B550) for faster future GPU and SSD's? Currently, you need Intel for PCIe 5.0.
Or perhaps one can wait for couple of months, to see what kind of performance jumps are offered by Zen 4 (Socket AM5, DDR5...) and 13th Gen Intel (same Socket, LGA 1700).

Since yours is a newer comment, the 3600 is a good CPU.
However since AMD is going to stop making Zen 2 (Yes AMD still makes older skus), the 3600 is going to disappear and the 5600 has taken its place for the $150 range product for which it's MUCH better than the 3600 when priced the same.
      The 5500 is now a $100 part.
When buying AMD, patience is always a virtue. Of course if you ALWAYS have to be at the leading edge this doesn't apply, but then again neither does holding onto a CPU that's 2 generations old and gets butt stomped by new gen parts.

The lack of intensive CPU game, like some PC exclusive games and games where CPU speed is important more than just for a few fps but for the time you WAIT like Civilization or Paradox Interactive games, is still, to my opinion, the thing that held back your otherwise perfect review !

Just upgraded to a 5500 from an R5 2600. That's considering a used 3600 is similar in price, and a 5600 was 35% more expensive with just 15% performance upgrade in games. And i'm satisfied with it. managed to get a whopping 30% upgrade in minimum fps to 77 from 57 on Far Cry 6 benchmark. On the actual gameplay the poor 2600 even dropped to the low 50s sometimes, and that's all practically solved with the 5500 keeping above 60 at all times.

    • @MrDutch1e
      @MrDutch1e 2 года назад +1

Far cry 6 benchmark means nothing for minimums. It glitches at the start setting the minimum. You could have a 5800x3d and get lower minimum that an r3 1200 because it's literally just a shitty broken engine. That's pretty much truthful for almost all built in benchmarks tho. Actually playing and recording avg and minimums with msi afterburner or something and repeating the same gameplay is a much better comparison. Also far cry performs like trash on ryzen no matter what cpu you have. Has some areas where performance just plummets for no reason until you leave that area. Performs drops on Intel too but far far less.

    • @abibirawa4119
      @abibirawa4119 2 года назад

@@MrDutch1e Actually, The glitch at the start likely don't get recorded in the benchmark anymore, because even the 2600 gets at least 80fps in the start. I've tested both CPU dozens of times so it's not just a fluke. It's consistent. The lowest fps will appear always at the explosion caused by the tank at the end of the test. And there's no performance plummeting in the game anymore, it's just normal fps drops in heavier populated areas like the base and towns.

@@warlordwossman5722 thanks for the quick reply! I will aim for the 5600. The L3 definitely makes it the worthwhile. I recently bought the GTX1080 because it was cheap and a better upgrade to my previous GTX1060. I don't plan on holding it for a long time but a bridge to something better later. It's definitely a good 1080p card. In Apex legends, I'm able to do 1440p low with over 100fps on the ground. airdrop, hits like 50-60fps. I have tested WOW and genshin impact with great results but those are easy to run games. I have not tested any other games but I'm sure those games, I will not get the same results as Apex.

Now I'm looking for an end game cpu and reasonably I'm looking at the 5700x, however the 5800x3D would be more relevant for longer i think?
A comparison of the 3600 to all current 5000 series, in a gpu scaling video would be EPIC!
Although I'm thinking the biggest gains over the 3600 will be cpu intensive multiplayer games, which i do dabble in at 1440p.

When I compared prices on eBay vs Amazon / New Egg, I found used B350 and B450 barely cheaper than new B550 boards. I also found that used Ryzen 5 3600X CPU to be barely cheaper than new Ryzen 5 5500 CPUs. Also many of the used CPUs do not appear to have their Wraith Stealth Coolers anymore. You add the cooler in and the Ryzen 5 3600x may very well then jump to being more expensive than the Ryzen 5 5500. You also will get something of a warranty with the new CPU and motherboards.

I hope that when the rest of the 5xxx3D chips get released, the 5500 gets a price drop and essentially turns into what the 1600af was, entry level 6 core for $90-100 that uses a motherboard compatible with the higher end chips. I'd imagine going from a 5500 to a 5600X3D would still give a pretty good improvement.

The issue here is mainly the price, it seems. For me, in Poland, the 5500 is 150USD with VAT included, while 5600 is 212USD. When i put it like that, it doesn't sound that bad, right? But for me, it's 679PLN vs 958PLN, so 279PLN difference, or roughly 10% of the country's median monthly income. That does start to sound, like the 5600 is MUCH more expensive. And that means, the 5500 is a great value option for people like me. The difference between the two is almost the cost of a 16GB kit of RAM.
The used market? Not much better. 3600 usually goes for around 550-600PLN/122-133USD, so around the price of a NEW 5500 or even a new 3600 (which costs on par or is more expensive than the 5500), and that's for a used CPU. Wouldn't be a problem with an Intel CPU, but since AMD still has the pins on the CPU, their condition matters, so buying used online is risky.
Core i3 12100f? With it's 4c/8t is not a great option for someone, that uses the PC for things other than gaming, or likes to have stuff open in the background.
So, in the end, 5500 is still a great part, assuming the price is right. At $62 difference, the 5600 is just too expensive.
