Awesome, i got a straight rip cut! Im a beginner in woodworking and i noticed alot of people cut with the saw at a 45° angle. But this method is way easier and gives better result. When would you use the 45° angle cut mister? Thanks again
It looks like magic - I can't cut straight with a handsaw to save my life. I will try the chisel method though, looks quite promising for a hopeless man like me.
I ripped a 4"x4" by 8 foot in half recently. Great fun. Tallowood, a very good Australian hardwood. I used my lovely Disston no 7 , 4 tpi, and it sailed through in no time. I learn a lot about sharpening by using my saws. I could feel a low spot in the tooth line, where about 5 teeth together are a fraction lower than the others. It is still sharp, so I won't worry about it till next sharpening. All part of the learning curve. Just love a sharp rip saw. I have a D8 that I bought for $ 5 , about 25 years ago. Dead straight, Apple handle, 7 point. In rip it is a dream to use. So easy to sharpen too. Happy hand sawing everyone.
I’m trying to build a shelf and had to completely overhaul everything because my cuts keep coming out lopsided, what should I do if all I have are two sawhorses?

im about to cut two lines through decking with a used hand saw, im going to mark the lines, and cut straight, do you reckon scoring the line first helps?
@@Woodworkingmasterclass Yes sir, I plan on it. I'm determined to master carpentry without power tools. I've been seeking the advice of old sages on RUclips while I gather necessary tools and equipment. Thank you again.
Hand saws are really goods cause they are free from bateries or plugs and can be used in almost every place. The only problem is when you have to cut like 20 planks 10 inches large made of red eucaliptus, it demands some HPs from your arm haha.
Thank you so much, I'm an amateur wood carver with no man to show me how to saw, thank you 🤗💜
I am teaching my son to use a hand saw to cut wood for a project and was astonished at this good idea - thanks!

I use my foot and spare hand as a steady on the [plank and then cut with my saw hand. Use the same principle with a cut line as a fence. Cheers Steve
Ive been looking for one of those small marking knives for ages Steve
What brand is that your using ?
Hi Gary, Sorry don't make them anymore but they do have a folding one which takes the same blade. Cheers Steve
@@Woodworkingmasterclass I'd have to look in Bunnings or one of the Tool Specialists . Do you know who makes the folding ones with that blade ?

it's rough on the bottom edge where he sawed so the grain is frayed 😢
