    Great tips! I grew mini cantaloupes one year up against the side of my deck and they grew up the lattice. They were delicious!

    Very informative video. I may add that I noticed you have flowers growing close by. No doubt that helps attract the bee’s for a much better pollination success rate. Happy Gardening 😊

    Great tips! I am starting Sugar Bush Babies inside this year and have been hardening them off over the past week or two to prep them for going outside into my 15 gallon grow bag and tomato cage. I may also use some 3’ bamboo stakes I already own to help out the tomato cage for support. I will use your tips shown in this video to the best of my ability 👊🏻🌻👊🏻

    My entire squash garden was wiped out by vine borers. I started getting good at spotting the signs of them being inside and cutting them out and squishing them . It was sad but this year I'm waging war on those darned vine borers. Going to catch them early. Maybe something else will ruin my plants but I refuse to let it be vine borers again!

      Someone suggested to me a copper coil next to the plants to keep the killing pests away yet allows the good ones. I haven't tried it but I have used organic Castile soap to spray leaf if necessary. Worked for Cucumber. Tiny amount of Castile and a whole lot of water.

    there's video's on here from some "seasoned professionals" that suggest you cut off the watermelon vine a little bit after where the fruit it growing, plus cut off the suckers that grow, so they both stop taking way energy from going to your fruit. That supposedly makes'em sweeter too. I also watched a video where a direct sow melon grew just as fast, possibly faster, than one started inside--that blew my mind. Thanks for your video!!

      I would check to see if your soil is moist first. If water doesn’t seem to be an issue, look up leaf curl on Google images and see if your plant looks similar.

    Do your grow bags have drain holes? Are they needed for flower or vegetable gardening?

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  3 года назад +5

      The material of the grow bags is very porous so you won't need a drain hole as you would have on a regular pot!

    Great video. Is it beneficial for the melon to stay lifted from the ground? I'm learning how to grow in containers.

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  Год назад +1

      You’ll probably have a better shape of you lift it. Mine that sit on the deck always have a flat side to them 😆 if I had a lot of pests crawling around my soil in the bed I’d probably lift them all too but haven’t had much issue with that.

    I have had more luck direct sowing seeds than starting inside. Can anyone please let me know how to get my seedlings to grow strong if I start indoors. I have tried heat lights, heat mats and they still get to leggy. I am lost

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  2 года назад

      How far away are your lights from your seedlings? Some of mine got leggy last year bc the grow light was too far from the plants.

    • @ramz1455
      @ramz1455 2 года назад

      When it comes to grow lights keep it a few inches above your seedlings. When you start them on heat mats; once you see the seedling has pop out take them off immediately.

    • @halibaitor

      They're getting leggy due to lack of sunlight/uv.
