You can still register in VT if you go there to the dmv. They don’t do mail to other states anymore. If you have an “address” like a rented ups store box to get an address you are considered a resident and they do let you register.

It is MCO. Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin.
First time you title a new vehicle, whatever State it is done in steals that certificate and issues a Memorandum of Title.

I see a large portion of people who are asking why they need to register their private property. I'm one of them. I notify the State (BMV in Maine) and let them know I'm the new owner. I send them old title and they return it stating I need to "purchase" a title before I can register. I place the papers in my safe and my "private" notice where the plate goes. Other than that, as long as there's no dispute, there should be no problems. I also notified the manufacturer and changed ownership there. GM won't do it but Ram did it for me.

Texas DMV does NOT keep active records for more than 10 years. It only keeps records on actively registered vehicles.
I have vehicle that have sat for many years, I have titles for all of them. I legally own them.
I have heard of car builders that have field full of car shells, and DMV and law enforcement have come knocking to check every car, vin and title, to verify they are legal. Nothing is more satisfying than having them show up only to realize there is nothing questionable about all the ownership of vehicles in possession.

Ok here is one for you,
I bought a car over 20 years ago
1994 toyota celica paid xxxxx for it, when we bought it in 1995 it was used had 13k miles on it
We put 287k miles on it had it paid off in less then 5 years its been paid for for a very long time it had lein on the title, they sent it back after it was paid off with paid off stamped on it.
I sold the car put how much on it for tax signed it over to the buyer gave him that.
He went to title it they said no he needs a lien release forms to prove it been paid off. I didnt even know who the lender was but they should have sent that with the dam title when they sent it back.
Wtf turns out it was a sub company of wells fargo, and i rember paying a title fee on the loan then paying the state for a title when we paid our tax. So in reality they should have sent me a clean title with no lein on it.
The point is i sold him a car with what i thought was a clean title, and he could not do shit with it.

    • @only1muppet
      @only1muppet 2 месяца назад +1

You should still be able to get a lien release from them. Yes you are right that they should’ve sent that in the first place. But being that it was through Wells Fargo, they don’t have the best reputation.

Thats why everyone needs to quit dealing with the crooks at the DMV who is a privately owned company and the State Of Whatever State who is also just a for profit company, realise that these entities are not government they are scammers and can be easily sued in court for violations of impersonating government officials and civil rights violations under color of law meaning it looks like law but in fact is not. Peoples consent is what allows these crooks to keep operating.

Why do you have to trade in a perfectly good certificate of origin from the manufacturer and a bill of sale for a state piece of paper. The manufacturers certificate of origin and the bill of sale should be sufficient Titling a vehicle cost too much money.

Texas DMV does NOT keep active records for more than 10 years. It only keeps records on actively registered vehicles.
After 10 years, the information in the Texas dmv system just goes away.
    This applies to Texas.
The process for getting a lost title or bill of sale vehicle can be lengthy.
Paperwork, bill of sale. Trailer your vehicle to Texas dmv after you have made an appointment for the inspectors to check the vehicle VIN, the hidden VIN, and verify the vehicle is not stolen. There must be a way to verify the VIN does not flag a stolen vehicle nationally, whatever they do to verify ownership. After they are satisfied with the vehicle is legit, then you will get a title.
You cannot swap a VIN from any vehicle, that’s illegal, could even be a felony. Swapping a vin must be done by DMV.
Licensed Replacement bodies for classics, same thing, vin assignment must be done my DMV.
I don’t want a bonded title, I want a legit Texas title that matches the VIN on the car.
Theft recoveries can get a new VIN assigned and riveted on the vehicle if it’s been stolen and oem vin tag was removed. But it’s not a factory vin anymore and resale value is less. I’ve sent that also.
That’s why you verify the VIN when you buy a classic or any vehicle. There are many who make fake collector cars or vehicle to make money. Trust no one.
I’m glad the Vermont loophole is gone.
