The combine motor is a little bit long for the 4020 frame, it will work with some adjustments so that you can clear the radiator. Usually altering the water pump and a different fan will give you enough clearance with the radiator. The turbo 404 is an excellent engine for the 4020. The 6068 DF is a 6.8 liter (414ci) 6 cylinder industrial engine, 125 horsepower as best I can find. It seems to have various models up to 200+ horsepower. I agree the combine engine is your best bet for time, money and convenience.

The 20 series tractors were made through 1972.

That Deere repower reminds me of a 2840 or 2940. Exhaust manifold sure makes me think of ours.

I thought about calling Deere and asking what it is, they would know. I just never got around to it.

      That’s because the 6068 t is a descendant of the 329

I think that your replacement engine is out of a 7700 turbo combine. The early 6600 diesels were the 329, later were 404's both non turbo. Straight 7700 combine also used a 404 non turbo. Basically the motor you have is really similar to a 4430 engine. Because it's the later version of the 404 the oil pan off the 4020 diesel (early 404) will not fit.

Sorry about that I called it A 6600, It is a later model 7700. This is good information, comments like this are going to help make my repower happen. Thank you, and Thanks for watching!

Had my pump rebuild for $250 an it still works just fine after 10years an it seems the repowered don't hold same resale value

For $250 that's pretty good! And I know what you are saying about the resale value, I do plan on overhauling the original 404 out of the 4020 later in the future. Engine swaps and rebuilds are something I enjoy doing, and making content out of some of these projects have been a lot of fun for me. So no worries the 4020 will have her original engine again, fresh over haul and hopefully you will get to see it. Thanks for watching!

I have an early 1972 side console 4020 no turbo and a 1968 4020 I think you misspoke about the production years. You would cheaper to rebuild the injection pump and engine after you shoehorn that combine engine into that tractor. Lots of little things will come up trying to do this.

Yeah, I got some things wrong in that video. But I did end up putting new injectors and a rebuilt injection pump in that 4020, And it runs great. Then I found an old gas 4020 that was on it's way to the scrap yard and put the combine engine in that.

You use the word re-power makes Me think of John Kinze. Being a Cummins and Caterpillar makes Me think of that a nice re-power Engine would be a C- series 8.3 Liter ( 505 C I ) Cummins. I am sure it would entail much more work but, the end result would be astounding. The length of the Engine would be a determining factor. Another Engine would be the 466 IH but, again, the length would be a factor as so many things would need to be changed.
      What would Kinze do ?

4020s are too valuable stock. If your dead set on making a frankentractor go find a 4320. Three scv outlets, side counsel heavier transmission, bigger fuel tank and a junk motor.
