High school love, heart break, happy, bittersweet, fun, sad, new times bro
This song reminds me of the beach boys, well Brian Wilson mainly.
yeah its the coolest song the beach boys never did. AND the concept of the phantom limb of history is miles beyond anywhere the bboys ever went.
Except anything by the Beach Boys repeats the word "girl" about twenty times throughout the duration of the song.
That's kinda what Saint Simon reminds me of...
both power pop
Said the same thing.
this song is perfect. it's unique. it'll always have a place in my personal top ten songs of all time. Takes me back to my college days in the mid-2000s
Same but mine were late 00s
Anybody else's favourite band? :)
Me

You sure yours isn't the Dandys? Either way, you're fabulous
Not Favorite, but definitely favorite full album front to back in a long time, a really long time!

i totaly forgot this song existed, it used to be one of my favorite bands, so glad I found this again!
this is the foreign lands with the sprayed on tans... best lyrics of the song lol
Try singing along with this - I bet you can’t! James Mercer uses every vocal trick he has in his singing repertoire which he employs to great effect. Arpeggios, downslides, up slides and everything between. Like a song thrush going through it’s song book. As someone who went to singing lessons from a very young age I can only listen with awe as to what he has done here.
This is the shit. I'm so glad RUclips recommended this because I don't know how the hell else I would have ever actually found this song. Now it'll never leave me.
This song just makes me want to grab my friends and take a road trip. :p
ik what you mean
JEEVES that's actually how I found this song lol. Craziest week of my life
I'm still listening to this in 2019
Hell yeah! And 2020 won't be different
2020 !
That's because this music lasts forever...
After many years a come across this great song again. Beautifully written song.
Take some Acid and listen to this record, a musical experience you will never forget.
Am I legend if I’m listening in Jan.2024?
Finding lyrics like this is incredibly rare and the brilliant James Mercer does it often. Bless his voice, his sheer talent and bless music from the Shins.
i love this song so much, i remember hearing it on the radio when i was around 8. now i’m 19 almost 20 and it’s still one of my favs
So much of what he says is hard to make out yet it still sounds great, kinda like Modest Mouse.
I can pretty clearly understand every word Modest Mouse sings honestly.
Yep
@@BT-oj1bn pity
@@BT-oj1bn I know I’m over 3 years late to this reply so you probably don’t give a shit anymore but I think they mean the lyrics are really abstract and hard to decipher, meaning wise
@@hibuhemu2311 I care. Maybe so
showcases their own brand of alt country folk rock - a winning way with melody, subtle instrumentation and pure, fine vocals.
Haha I love how the majority of the shins fans are intelligent. Reading the comments is like listening to an intellectual discussion. It makes me so proud of my fellow The Shins lovers :)
We are
Right now I wish I was more intelligent, honestly, but I recently scrolled through a Cardi B comment section. And yeah, with a move like that I realize it's obvious that I wasn't getting into Mensa anyway.
Oh yesss we are, Sir! ^_^'
y'all being cringe
And with that comment you’ve made everyone sound like a dumb ass
This song❤️❤️❤️
This was the v first song I discovered thru the internet. I remember it being on the RUclips homepage when I was 11, and thinking the music video was so obscure. I loved it tho. I’m 28 now. Time is crazy
This song is pure rich and thick like good coffee
Hearing pop music makes me think that music has run out of melodies. The shins are here to tell me otherwise.
And from Albuquerque NM....lotta memories there. Big part of my life. Great tune.
Favorite Shins song right here yo
We as a species are torn between our civility and our natural animal evolution, and our intelligence makes us painfully aware of this.
when video and lyrics mesh like this its next level and deeply spiritual. u prob can learn more from music than anything else
Re-embracing my love of this song, thanks to Marika...
