There were mistakes by the cops and by the mother. What would a cop do if it was his own adult son who was having a serious mental health episode and threatened with a pair of scissors? You can bet that the father/cop would not have shot him. Can't fault the mom for trying to stop the violence and protect her son who was just tazed two times. But yes, she made a mistake. The police also over reacted by shooting the young man. I know they are trained to shoot at the body but in this case a Glock nine or whatever hand gun they have now against a pair of scissors?? C'mon! He could have shot the man in the arm or foot or leg. But really all the cop had to do was grab a kitchen chair and knock the scissors out of the mans hands. Damn, man. A pair of sewing scissors VS a close range high powered hand gun? REALLY?

@@bobroberts2371 I DID! Can you read what I wrote please? Just for you I will repeat it. Cop shot an emotionally troubled, young man with a KILL SHOT at close range! A young man with sewing scissors! The cop could have shot the guy in the arm or leg at that range easily. The cop could have picked up a kitchen chair and knocked the scissors out of the guys hand easily. I guarantee that if it was that cops own son breaking down mentally with a pair of scissors he'd feel differently. Differently enough to be sick in his stomach that a cop didn't panic and go for a kill shot. You get it? Do you have any kids? A brother? A cousin? It was a pair of sewing scissors! Have a heart for gods sake.

bet if the officers told the 17yo "if it's mental health call the crisis hotline" and left and the 19yo killed his mother and brother with the scissors, the officers would have been fired/damned for leaving them with a potential threat to their safety. This isn't lack of training, obviously the family didn't know how to handle or deescalate the situation either. There is no definitive answer to situations like this. Sit back, relax, and watch the politics unfold.

I saw the body cam footage. The victim's mother made it impossible for the cops to subdue him. They had him neutralized with the taser and his mom jumped in and took away the chance to rush him and get the scissors out of his hands. At the same token, I do believe the police should be trained to disarm someone with a knife without using lethal force if there are at least two police officers against one assailant. Also, where is the gear to take aid in protecting the police officers from getting hurt by the person suffering from mental illness? I had to call the cops on my brother not so long ago and, they came ready with riot-like gear

I want to know exactly what are the cops supposed to do about your mental health issues? Was they supposed to lay him down on the couch while they pull out a pad and pen and listen to his life story ? What do people expect the police to do about your mental health ptoblems ? Everybody always wants to say they need better mental health training . That is not their job ! Their job is to uphold law and order ! Not be a therapist so if you call them because your having anxiety or seeing lil green men and you start bugging out they gonna restore order . So please be mimdful of this before you decide to pick up that phone and call them ,you having mental health issues call the proper people, the police are not them !
