- For the first time since disturbing body camera footage was released, we're hearing from the family of a 19-year-old who was fatally shot by police in Queens. CBS New York's Jennifer Bisram reports.

@@bronxkies there is a program called be heard, “which was also mentioned in the news report” it’s teams of social workers, people who are trained to deal with mental illnesses and people who suffer from it. I work in a children’s hospital and see things like this all the time, our social workers are on hand if we need them if things get out of control. But for the most part the parents who how to calm their child down.
Mother escalated the situation by staying between cops and the kid after he was tazered… he took scissors away from the mother and charged at the cops… I’m no boot licker but in this case kid chose his fate and the brother / mother are just as responsible for his death!

@@lilmamagc my argument is 2 fold of mother thought she could do it better why call the cops in the first place. 2nd man with scissors can do serious damage and or cause death… bottom line is that this is a tragic situation… the cops are a figure of authority that can evoke negative response… social workers out there is an option but they need to breast to use force because some mental illnesses there sis not taking to… you need force to restrain those people… if You spent any amount of time in the er or mental health field you would realize that… not sure what the solution is here… seems like the cops did best they could with what seems to be like a disturbed potentially violent person who moved toward them with a deadly weapon on his hands

The mom has probably seen too many videos of police killing black/brown men and didn't want her son to be next. If you watch the whole video from beginning to end, you would see he put the scissors down and THEN they tased him. That's when he grabbed them again from the chair. 🙄

I normally want to give the police officers the benifit of doubt but this was flat out incompetence. At 1:31 the boy is just standing still, completely unarmed, the mom took the scissors from him and the officer just tased him, why?? Of course the boy is going to feel threatened after that. Not to mention the way they were yelling at him, that's no way to deescalate anything.
Officers are literally trained to handle situations like this. There was no other outcome, he would’ve eventually grabbed the scissors again. Also the officer has a right to yell at the suspect if he’s even near the scissors still because he has the ability to pick them up again, which he did
