Honestly, Luke, we pretty much just need you, the forest, and a bit of gear in these videos. Rain, storms and wildlife are icing on the cake but the cake is good as it is. Heal quickly. Saying a prayer for you. Greetings from Canada.
I always use a tarp over my tent. Gives me more outdoor cover plus protects the tent more. Luke thanks for the recommendation of the aqua quest tarps they are my go to now
The tarp over the tent helps you stay warmer on cold, dry winter campouts. The black night sky chills the tarp surface very cold from radiative heat loss, but the tent under it has no direct view of the black sky, so your tent skin runs a little warmer. It works on hot days also, so you may be able to take an afternoon nap in your tent.
There is not a single tent anymore that I trust. If I buy a new tent no matter who it is from I check for seam tape and if none I do it myself. I also retreat tent with a waterproofer myself before even taking it out. I know my tent wont leak because I did it myself!
I've gotten into the habit of doing this also. The only tent I have ever purchased and had no issues with or had to seam tape is the North Face Wawona 6.
Yep, I took my 3 daughters to Myrtle Beach camping in a hoop/pole tent. The poles made hoops as they were passed through their sleeves. Staked out, the tent looked great, plenty of room. Then a big storm came, full on, from ocean to beach. It blew the tent flat to the ground, puddling in the folds. Watching, I told my young daughters to get in the car. “We’ll go out to eat and come back when the rain stops”. It was a heck of a storm. We went to Joe’s Crab Shack I think. Upon our return we gathered the still flat tent, our junk inside, and went to a hotel. We became a tarp family and never went back to the beach.
Thank you for your testing these products. I was looking at getting this tent because with my mobility issues, I’m a wheelchair user, setting up my current tent requires the help of friends. I thought this tent would be something I could do without help but since it didn’t perform well in rain I think I will stick with what I have currently. At least with my current tent I know myself and everything will stay dry even if the underside of my tent is like a waterbed.
I set up a tarp in the yard and put a chair under it sometimes when a good storm is on the way. It's a little sanctuary. Just enough to be comfortable.
Hoping you have a speedy recovery from your back injuries! I really enjoy your channel - it's a refreshing change from the usual, and a really worthwhile way to spend some time.
Luke, no worries about the change of venue, you gotta do what your body can do, so later when your back is happy again, the backpacking trip can be done. In the meantime, we wanted to see the rain testing on this tent, so we are glad you did it early! We are not picky about location, but the adventures are always good…no matter if they are equipment testing or camping…
Luke, Understand back problems, as my Dad has suffered most of his life having fallen out of a tree as a young child, never got help. I have mild scoliosis never treated. I have had problems with L5, L4, L3- discs in my back. Did exercises to help L3 and L4. Now just have degenerating disc in L5. Some sciaticia. My Dad is the same with some same problems, but at 83, with bone on bone with his knees he is skating, and teaching young ones to skate and having a blast! I am so proud of him! He is my heroe and inspiration. I am 61, have a hospital bed in my bedroom, I write this from. but I am rehabing. You and Susie inspire me too. Love your videos. I am intested in easy pop up tents. I will be paying attention to this video. Praying for you both all the time! Blessings from Gresham Oregon, Michelle Reed
I’m so sorry you hurt your back Luke. You handle the pain like a trooper. I understand what you are going through. I suffer from severe back pain as well. Hope you feel better soon
Luke now that you have it, I would say if it’s just leaking and you have already got it and like it for the most part. Just seam seal and water proof it yourself. But yeah if you haven’t bought one then I wouldn’t unless it’s such a great deal and you don’t mind seam sealing and proofing it. Thanks for a good video. Would love to hear why you like it Luke.
Hey Luke, I know your pain.... Two spinal surgeries back to back in 2020.... Yet you were able to get through it, squatting, bending and everything else to complete this video. You are a tough person... Kudos my friend and I hope for a speedy recovery.... 😊
Luke I have all the sympathy there is for ya. I have struggled with chronic back issues for over a dozen years. At least some degree of pain everyday. There is no fix for me, but sure hope you heal soon. I know what that misery is. Sending healing thoughts and prayers your way bro 🙏🏻
Sorry to hear about your back problems returning. I live with it every day so I can relate. Praying yours gets better soon. God Bless you and Susie.❤❤❤❤❤
I think the tarp/tent combo a great idea. I know you will likely waterproof the tent yourself. A good easy setup, and it looks like a neat tent idea. Take care of that back, and God bless.
Sorry to hear about your back, prayin for quick healing. At 65, I can relate even though I can pull a muscle putting on socks. Welcome to the aging process. Bummer about the leaking but with your seam observations early on we expected it. Still, a night out is a night out even if you had to seek shelter in the 4runner. Cowboy coffee first thing on a rainy day!
@@rickycowan6969I've had to wear a knee brace while sleeping for years. It doesn't bother me during the day, but if I don't wear it while I sleep, I'm unable to put weight on it afterwards. Getting old sucks, but it beats the alternative.😂
Hoping the best for the back. I ended up 6 years ago in a wheelchair paralyzed from the waist down. Had come back from a PCT hike 6 months earlier. Im thankful to be out of the chair and i guess i can call it walking. I have no clue what happened but my spine got destroyed. I hate knowing my hiking days are over. Take care of that back my friend tho im sure you already know. 👊
My family has always tent camped. Every tent my dad ever bought he sealed the seams and added his own waterproofing to every spring. Still used an under tent ground cover and a large tarp over the two tents. Occasionally we might get some dampness if it thunderstormed very hard all night but not as much as you had after 3 hours. Of course, him being a lifetime military man, he had a checklist for everything to go with us when camping that he checked every time and made sure was in top order. Always plenty of dry wood, water, flashlights for nighttime bathroom runs, Coleman lanterns and fuel, first aid kits with everything for bug bites to broken limbs. I can no longer camp like that due to mobility issues(can’t get up and down from the ground, well up anyway. I can fall down easily) but I surely miss it.
I watched your first review of this tent and am glad you are doing the rain test! Good luck with the test and I hope you heal soon. Now back to the video🧐
Big love to you Luke, out there testing things with a bad back. I hope it eases soon. Thank you for doing what you do, you gave me the knowledge and courage to head back out on my own after raising my kids. You make an impact, even if it's not always clear x
You should start putting cameras in the tint during these tests so you can splice in footage of what’s happening inside as it happens. Would make it a lot more interesting 😊
Luke invest in ventvisor for your front doors and the rear doors. Open the windows just above the bottom of the visors and use your fan. That will draw cooler air into the front and the fan will keep it moving. I too liked the tent but since it leaks it is a no buy. Thanks for the video.
Great video! Well, not surprised it is leaking badly. Since it doesn't have a rain fly and unsealed seams I was expecting the outcome to be exactly the way you found it. Thanks for a great review!
they also sell decathlon pop up tents like that.. was planning to buy for my next moto-camping.. you might want to check them out.. theyre worth around 100USD.. i was given one like this, a cheap chinese brand.. i always use tarp over it.. btw, you might need a chiropractor massage for your back..😉
As I'm watching this we're getting the same weather. And it's extremely humid 30.. feels like 38. And we just got an alert for Strong thunder storm. I'm in Canada. I enjoy watching you because of your no bs. Tell it like it is.. it reminds me of my late husband. Just the truth. And it didn't have to sound pretty . lol good luck with your back. I hope you're feeling better soon.
Hope you're feeling better soon. I've had some bad back pain in my younger days that was the worst. I hope you the best and wish you fast healing. I like the tent in your video but as soon as you showed the seams I knew it would leak. So, small price but must spend money on your own waterproof sealing. Thanks for the review.
I hope your back heels up quick and my family and I will be praying for you. You always have great videos Luke so I don't care what kind of video you do all your videos are a soiled 10. Strength and honor
You seem to be in great shape. I hope you didn't re-injure your back. I'm a PT and you might just have "muscle guarding" which can be painful as it tries to further protect you. Thank you for taking the time to test out these tents/recreation equipment. It makes a huge difference when we are trying to choose what to buy next. Where is Lone Wolf Mountain? Btw, I've heard the phrase but never saw a person "pray for rain." lol 🌧😎 I'm sorry that the tent wasn't a quality tent. I guess when something looks too good to be true, it actually is.
Great idea for a video, I also have back pain. I had a compression fracture of my T9 in 07. You should do back brace reviews to see which one helps the best and gives you the most mobility while being active. I’m an OTR driver and the 11 hr drive with all the jostling does a number on my back. Love your videos after a long day of driving i can sit in my bunk and watch your video and turn my brain off and just enjoy your scenery. Thanks
Hope your back gets better man. Thanks for the video and the relaxin' time spent watchin' it. On a tryin' to be funny not .... I always say "I have a weak back, happened bout a week back"
Couldnt wait for this rain review. Had a popup tent about 10 years ago and it was a disaster. Just the dew went through..wasnt even raining... went.in the trash after a couple uses. Beside it was impossible to fold.back up. Take it easy Luke or should I say cpt hot tub 😅😊
As an actual storm chaser myself I enjoyed Twisters. The movie was meant to be corny and tongue-in-cheek, not a docu-drama about the science of tornadoes. There have been many attempts at more realistic knockoffs of the original Twister, but they have all flopped. Twister and Twisters adds a fun ‘twist’ to the world of storm chasing that makes it actually funny. so depending on how you go in with your expectations it’s definitely going to influence your opinion in the end. I seriously suggest you rewatch the movie at some point all the way to the end and enjoy it for what it is and not for what you expect. I guarantee you’ll like it.
I found the movie to be ultra stupid and unrealistic in the extreme. AND i never expected it to be realistic in the first place. It was basically the same formula for a Hollywood romcom…just change the names of the characters, but, i did not find it to be funny either. I, would have walked out of the theater also, if i had seen it in a theater. But i am happy some people enjoyed it. The family i saw it with enjoyed it also.
Thanks Luke, looks I’m going to buy seam tape and other waterproofing gear along with the tent. I wonder if they mention the tarp they supply with the tent to be draped over it during downpours? Hope your back is feeling better, having hurt mine about 25 years ago…pain…still have to watch how I carry items and handle falls. Thanks for saving me money on a “Twisters” ticket…I like the “Twister “ movie back in the day. Have a great day!
I feel ya Luke. A back injury is no joke once youve had one it seems to be lurking around the corner waiting to bite for the rest of your life! Physio exercises are the only relief for me. I didnt have high hopes for that tent so not surprised it failed. Im liking that cooker more n more for car camping...pity the gas tube doesnt thru the flame for bottle inverting and cold weather performance...whats the lowest temp youve had it in and still ok? Keep up the good work.
Ok in this video it's a test in the rain. Most, tent campers predicted the results of the water resilience test of the tent. I'm not waiting to find out. No matter what the manufacturer claims, and how much the shelter costs, it's seam-seal every seam and then use the correct waterproofing solution for the entire rain fly and other parts of the exposed tent. In the video, the zipper system worked well. Good video. Thanks
Your back pain really spoke to me. I was lucky to avoid back pain most of my life. I’d seen my mom struggle with it for decades. Then one day I had a minor routine surgery on my intestine. Botched. Long story short I nearly died, years of recovery, etc. My ab muscles are basically a mutilated mess now, and the strain that’s put on my back has been insane. Had to do physical therapy. Went to 27 excruciating sessions. Still struggling 3.5 years later. My advice is just take it slow and steady, be patient, don’t overwork it. If PT is available to you give it a shot. The coolest thing I did was this zero gravity treadmill. Good luck and I hope you heal well!
Is there a time when a tent is such a value, and you would like it so much but had minor leaking. Say something that seam sealing could fix that would be worth it since liked it so much. I got a cheap one knock off of the Bungalow tent reviewed some time ago. Did not leak in the rains I left out in to see if it leaked. I still seam sealed it watching your video on doing it. I also Scotch water proof sprayed it, keep it for my car for emergencies. Seemed worth it at the time for what was available, just wonder if you found one that would be worth it for you to do the extra steps for a nice tent you liked.
Believe it or not, that little ONETIGRIS Bungalow has been through several severe thunderstorms, winds around 35-40, been flattened to the ground (my bad), and has never leaked. I hope your back gets better soon! I have arthritis in my spine and can be real fun at times. Great vid under tough conditions!
Interesting, as always. Given how much you like the tent, would it be worth trying to rescue it by seam sealing it? FYI, I had a Coleman tent that leaked badly, but I used your seam-sealing method on it and it was fine after that. Alas, the carbon-fibre poles failed, so I no longer use it, but it never leaked after seam-sealing, so a big thanks for your advice!
I’m not exactly shocked that this tent leaks. I would be suspicious of any pop up tent. I’ll bet it’s crap in the wind also. Ok a person could put a tarp over it in the rain but that’s not possible in some camp sites due to lack of trees and in any case many casual campers don’t have enough skills to set up a tarp.
You can often improve wind stability by running a cord through key points to keep the poles from moving around. That's typically inside the tent if the poles are inside and just outside the tent if the poles are more external. You can also lash the poles together at any points where they cross to stiffen it up for wind or snow load.
I had back issues and inversion therapy worked for me as it eases the pressure of gravity on my nerves and the disks in my spine. Hope you feel better soon. I would like to see how Night cat pop up tent 2P(PU 2000mm) and Ayamaya pop up tent 4P(PU 3000mm) put up with harsh weather condition. "Night Cat Pop Up Tent 2 Person Waterproof Throwing Tent" and "4 Person Pop Up Tents for Camping - AYAMAYA Waterproof Instant Family Tents with Skylight & Removable Rainfly, Upgraded Large Size with 2 Doors -Automatic Easy Setup Beach Tent with Poles" It will be interesting to watch. Take care!
Dang man I was so hopeful for this one! I have the frontrunner flip pop tent that works like a dream and this one seemed like just a bigger version of that. Glad I didn’t make a purchase on this one, my frontrunner never ever leaked
I can empathize with you with the back issues. I initially hurt my back while I was in the Air Force in Germany in the mid-late 70s, but it didn't become a problem until much later when it showed up as a herniated disk between L4 and L5. Fast forward to 2010, I fell about 20 feet from a latter and had non-displacing fractures of L2 and L4. My back has not been the same since. I can sneeze hard and get a back spasm. So I can truly understand your pain, my friend. Motrin and a heating pad or rice are frequently my best buds.
I was not surprised it leaked. Popup tents seem to be fair weather only for the most part, regardless of their labeling. - Which brings me to another suggestion. On the Tents that failed in your testing - have you ever considered doing a series of videos where you make them waterproof after they have failed? Like adding seam tape, or otherwise modifying the tent. Something along the lines of "you can buy this tent for X amount, and then apply TOGR upgrades for X amount of dollars, and an X amount of time spent"
Good morning....I enjoy watching your videos... Please stay safe and say hello to your wife Susie...my name is Latricia and I live in South Georgia...I can't drive so I appreciate you sharing your life adventures with everyone...I'll keep watching... you be safe...
I am still interested in this tent as it would work perfectly for the trip I’m planning. What about sealing the tent myself with tape and treating the outside with a good waterproofer??? Suggestions???
I bought a Quechua and you get what you pay for I guess, was out in Smokies and it rained all night and even flash flooded Dollywood. My tent leaked too with pooling on the floor. Down the sides too. I had a foam mattress on top of foam gym floor pieces and I stayed dry. I hate you pulled your back. Sounds like mine….herniated 2 disks. Did extensive PT and Electrical stimulation called a TENS Unit. Ended up buying one on Amazon. PT was using it on me. Lifesaver.
Thanks for the review Luke. Try a chiropractor, mine does wonders for my back when I had an I jury. Now I just have regular adjustments every few months
I feel for you Luke. In 1997 while hiking in the Czech Republic I fell and hurt my lower back. Twenty seven years later that injury led to deterioration of 2 disks in my lower back. I used to walk 8 to 10 miles per day routinely. Now I am happy if I can do 3. That's with weekly chiropractor adjustments. Sigh.
I watch tons of Korean camping videos, I haven't seen any of them use products from this company. This video was very informative. I plan to buy one, obviously no rainy camping though...lol.
Hey Luke, absolutely love your videos and unbiased gear reviews! Do you have plans to do a "Legit or Sh*t" video soon testing the waterproofness of the MC ToMount 2 person tent?
Do you have any budget tent recommendations that have great all around designs, I don't really care if they require some work on seam sealing or weather coating that can be addressed diy.
Hi Luke and TOGR team, Luke I hopè you recover your health very soon and are not experiencing pain in your back for very long. I think I would like the Twisters movie, no matter how corny, I plan to watch it all the way through once. About the tent. I slept the night in a tent in a terrible storm at Byron Bay, in New South Wales in Australia, that tent leaked about as much as the one you presented. At the end of the day I was grateful for the amount of shelter I had because the storm was so bad. Looks like the solution will be in the application of a D.I.Y. product. Thanks for making another informative clip. Suzanne Qld Aust
I must admit, I just love watching your videos. Always makes me miss many years ago when I used to camping? in the north Norwegian mountains. Making some coffee, fishing and just enjoy life. I am curious mostly because you have 'seen them all' when it comes to tents, when I was younger the go to tent as a Norwegian used to be made by 'Helsport' a Norwegian company. I've heard some rumours that it is still expensive as fuxx, but the quality isn't there - have you done any reviews of that brand?
Hey Luke you really love that tent. I have a solution for you to totally waterproof the seams. Now it's going to take some ingenuity on your part because you're going to have to have a paintbrush and a mixing tool to mix these two products together until they become like a syrup. You'll need to buy either a quart or a half gallon of naphtha and one tube of clear silicone caulking. Use a bucket that doesn't matter if you throw it away. Preferably a plastic one. Pour The whole can of naphtha into the bucket and squeeze out the whole tube of clear silicon caulking into the bucket of Naptha. Attach a mixing paint stirrer to your drill and mix the ingredients until they become a syrup and all the caulking has mixed thoroughly. Now take your paintbrush after you have set up the tent and start painting and coating the seams thoroughly. Do this on a sunny day where there's no chance of rain and let it dry completely and you will have a totally waterproof tent. I have made several tarps using sheets polyester sheets and thoroughly soak them in this solution and hung them out to dry and now I have waterproof tarps.
Ugh! I've been dealing with low back issues for several years now. I fell through my attic in the 90s and it caught up with me. Plus if I'm correct you are a GenX like me and you know what that means!? Just a stumble can throw our backs out of whack!!! Just saying! 😂 Good bless and get better! 🙏🏼
Glad to hear your back is finally feeling better! Back pain really can take the joy out of life for sure. It's too bad the Idogen leaked. Putting up a tarp sort of defeats the quick setup aspect somewhat. I'm curious, does the included awning have provisions to place it over the top to act more like a rain fly when raining?
I'd guess that part of the problem is that the zip-up window covers are *inside* the screens. Rain can be trapped at the bottom of the window. I have a cheap amazon pop up tent of similar design, but the fabric window covers are on the outside of the screens, and I think it makes a difference. Also, I always spray cheap tents like this with silicone waterproofing, top and bottom.
I saw TWISTERS and thoroughly enjoyed it. The main thing to remember is that it is NOT A FILM TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. 😊 If you do that, it will be enjoyable.

He would, too, if he wasn't testing the tent.
He always seems to keep his tent from under the tarp. At least in the videos I've seen. Maybe he testing then too, though.
Years ago when I did a lot of tent camping I always used a big tape over the tent
Thanks for the review.
rest and relax Luke. Back problems need healing.
Btw, I've heard the phrase but never saw a person "pray for rain." lol 🌧😎
I'm sorry that the tent wasn't a quality tent. I guess when something looks too good to be true, it actually is.
I hope your back feels better soon. Take care
Awesome intro, the sounds and music! Fun gear review, so helpful, have wondered about these pop up tents for awhile!
So sorry about your injury, Luke. Thanks for bringing us that episode.
Oh man, take care of your back. Take your time healing. Sending warm Namaste from Nepal and super glue like healing prayers. 🙂🙏
Why is it so much fun to watch this session to determine whether the tent will hold out under heavy rains?
Ok in this video it's a test in the rain. Most, tent campers predicted the results of the water resilience test of the tent. I'm not waiting to find out. No matter what the manufacturer claims, and how much the shelter costs, it's seam-seal every seam and then use the correct waterproofing solution for the entire rain fly and other parts of the exposed tent. In the video, the zipper system worked well. Good video. Thanks
The awning over the truck is nuch better than the tent
Hope you heal up quick my friend! Take it easy...
that little fan is awesome, use mine all the time.
Praying for You Luke 🙏 ❤ take Care 😊
Is there a time when a tent is such a value, and you would like it so much but had minor leaking. Say something that seam sealing could fix that would be worth it since liked it so much. I got a cheap one knock off of the Bungalow tent reviewed some time ago. Did not leak in the rains I left out in to see if it leaked. I still seam sealed it watching your video on doing it. I also Scotch water proof sprayed it, keep it for my car for emergencies. Seemed worth it at the time for what was available, just wonder if you found one that would be worth it for you to do the extra steps for a nice tent you liked.
how do you park in the middle of a trail/road?
Still a good tent for dry conditions, a lot of people will only use a tent in dry conditions.
I don't have enough skill to set up the popup 😄😄
Sending love and healing energy 🙏☺️
Hope your back has a speedy recovery love your vidieos gr8 stuff buddy.
Hope your back is better soon.love your videos.
"Night Cat Pop Up Tent 2 Person Waterproof Throwing Tent"
and
"4 Person Pop Up Tents for Camping - AYAMAYA Waterproof Instant Family Tents with Skylight & Removable Rainfly, Upgraded Large Size with 2 Doors -Automatic Easy Setup Beach Tent with Poles"
It will be interesting to watch.
Thanks for the review.
I pray your back gets better very soon . Thanks for all the good work .
OMG! this tent looked so big until 10:30 when you stood next to it. 4-5 people?!? Do they mean 4-5 pets?!?
They mean 5 people, don't forget Koreans r only midgets 4.5-5foot tall compared to us 😊
Man Brotha Luke I love car/truck/SUV camping. Especially on the beach!!!
Sigh.
A mistake? Giving us the most honest reviews of outdoor gear is not a mistake. You do what you need to do. Mission accomplished.
HI Luke! I sure hope your back is feeling better since this episode!
Hope you feel better Luke!
Back pain is no joke.. Feel better soon!!
As you get older you find all those youthful injuries you thought healed were actually just lurking.👿
Thank you have great taste in music.
I saw TWISTERS and thoroughly enjoyed it. The main thing to remember is that it is NOT A FILM TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. 😊 If you do that, it will be enjoyable.
The Experience you have is absolutely Admirable, Luke! Great upload! So happy I found your Channel! L❤ve watching from New Zealand.
