I bought this a couple weeks ago after watching so many initial reviews. I feel it makes a perfect compliment to my Sony ZV-E1 and my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Each one has it's use, but out of all 3 camera's i see mysellf using the Pocket 3 the most. If i need to up my quality, i take the ZV-E1. The Pocket 3 is a great camera and it's so convenient to take around everywhere. I use my iphone as last resort if I don't have either one of my dedicated cameras. Great video!
Spot-on coverage of these two cameras. One issue I am confused about is the wireless mic V2 with P3 in webcam mode. My V2 doesn't feed to the MacBook Pro through the P3. However, I was able to use the DJI Mic via Bluetooth directly with my Mac. This is cool, as now the mic can be used even when the P3 isn't.
I'll say that your reviews of the OP3 and how you've used it inspired me to pull the trigger and get this camera to replace an aging DSLR and Gimbal setup and its worked amazing!! Love your content!!
DJI POCKET 3 has elevated itself to such position that it beats DSLR/Mirrorless cameras in many key areas considering price point. Imagine if, the next generation of the Dji pocket 3 makes improvements in focal length ( addition of 85mm, 35mm as an attachment) backed by bigger sensor with better dynamic range, then the game is over for big camera industries like Canon, Sony, Nikon etc, as the form factor alone is so awesome & practical.
i may have missed it but which one of these cameras have better focus in regards to how quickly it focuses on say an object i will hold in front as you did when holding the camera batteries. Thanks and great video!
Ohhhh, man! I saw the title and got excited! Lol! 😂 You're one of my favorites for camera reviews! Insightful and entertaining! Keep up the great work, brother! May God bless you, your wife, and your family. 🙏🏽
As a video tool I believe the Osmo has the slight edge, but when it comes to the photography aspect its not even close. The ZV-1 destroys the Osmo for photography. You really need to factor that in when comparing the cost. The ZV-1 also has a lot of features worth mentioning that the Osmo lacks, like better button and touch screen control, adapter free mic input, optical zoom, variable aperture, hot shoe for digital mics and flash photography. The ZV-1 is tool you can put in your pocket and go while the Osmo requires you to bring a bag with a bunch of lens adapters, NDs, lav mic, case, etc. Over all a good review. I found you sitting on Gerald's couch, you got a new subscriber 😉
Yep. Pretty much wraps up this entire video. But you do have to be mindful of what the cameras intended purpose is. Sony markets this as a content vlogging camera. Which is its weakest suit, also, because that’s how it’s marketed and intended, that’s the light we have to look at it in unfortunately. It’s such a great photo camera, yet most people will never see that because well, Sony markets it as a vlog camera, hence its designation - ZV
Let's not get started on Sony's naming conventions 😁. Sony actually calls it a camera for, "Content Creators and Vloggers" on their website. I would agree that a lot of the marketing is geared towards vloggers....what ever those are these days. But content creators are videographers and photographers. Just because Sony markets a camera one way doesn't mean that only those features should be reviewed. You said, "because that’s how it’s marketed and intended, that’s the light we have to look at it in". People like yourself and other reviewers are the light! You shine on the products and show people what they can and cannot do. Please don't take any of this as criticism, just my perspective. Thank you for the conversation and keep up the content! @@TerryWarfield
ZV-1 is artificially crippled to protect Sonys other 6000 series bodies. The stacked one inch sensor is easily capable of 4k60 10 bit and even 4k120 but we can’t have it because the a 6600 at the time had to be protected.
Terry, you drop so much knowledge man. I’ve been watching for a long time. Can you help me with some interior design as well? What are the colors on the wall in the living room? I’m looking to get my place painted and I’m digging the vibe of your pad.
Save for resolution there are even photography instances where the OP3 wins out… as in point panoramas. OP3 is a true breakthrough. It excels at its stated purpose. I believe DJI has conquered the VLogging/Travel video market with this tiny camera. Great job DJI. Great video… keep em coming.
I was looking at both of these but noticed the Nikon z30 is on sale for $699 and it includes a kit lens with OIS. I think that's going to be the winner for me.
That Nintendo Switch though.. 👀😎 That said, another excellent video. I have Pocket 3 and I'm in the market for a selfie stick or monopod. I would like a monopod with tripod base, but I need something decent. Do you have any videos already with accessory suggestions/reviews?
For video, there’s very little case for buying a ZV1 nowadays. A ZVE1 most certainly but not a ZV1- just get a Pocket it is vastly superior for quick, good quality content creation. The best thing about the Pocket is it has been designed to be as frictionless to use as possible. Bam.💥 I actually think Pocket 3 is one of the best consumer photography product designs the last decade, if not the best. DJI have some amazing engineers and software developers.
I love the concept of the pocket 3 but the lack of optical zoom steers me towards the zv-1. I dont really care about the 4k, I realize that allows for digital zoom. However, 4k file size management even on a powerhouse computer is lacking. Its a pita to edit, its a pita to store, it often causes cameras to overheat. In my world, 4k isnt worth it yet. Now if I was shooting an actual film rather than youtube id definitely want 4k, so that option is good to have. Ive upresed 1080p to 4k multiple times and its almost impossible to tell a difference due to youtubes compression. The gimbal is sick, it eliminates so much bs, especially with the wireless mic. If you only point the camera at yourself or never need a zoom its a no brainer. DJI makes amazing products.
I genuinely believe if your budget is the Osmo pocket 3 then your phone will ALWAYS be the better choice BUT……I gotta admit that pocket 3 is such a clean quality like this genuinely caught me of guard and let’s not forget about the accessories like the mic as well as the built in gimbal
Hope DJI has sparked the fire up Sony’s butt with the newly inserted red peppers so they get off it and start innovating. When the RX100 was introduced it was very innovative. Everything after in the decade after have been iterative upgrades with massive price jumps. Hope they will see the light again.
When you talk about batteries you accidentally used the phrase "hot swappable" when you didn't mean to use the word "hot" (in other words, while the camera is actually running). With the DJI however, its extension battery is kind of hot swappable - you could attach it mid shot but admittedly you might get some clicking sounds as you did so. Still, if you were covering an event of some kind, it's better than shutting down the camera and fishing out a battery from inside. Anyway, great video, and your focus on "what do you want to do with it?" is good to hear. There's too many people talking about "best camera" without specifying "for what task."
DJI Marketing Team should be proud of themselves. Great job. I am more than sure the Pocket 3 beats the Lumix S5ii up in every aspect as well. At least 5,000 YT influencers are gonna confirn that in coming weeks.
Pointed that out. Said the ZV1 has a 18-50 zoom lens with a variable aperture while the osmo is a 20mm fixed focal length lens fixed at f2 equivalent.. someone wasn't listening! Lol
Yes, you pointed out the Sony lens, but you kind of blew right past it. I think that's the feeling of the original comment. You mentioned the lens, but more as a quick aside. And in your conclusion, you listed every advantage of the Pocket in detail, but left out the lens of the Sony, which is probably its single biggest advantage. Personally, I feel there is also a strong argument to be made in favor of a traditional camera like the Sony in that the form factor is more suitable for active vlogging. It's a camera that doesn't need to be babied. You can put it down on counters and other places when you need your hands free. The exposed gimbal of the Pocket has to be protected, and it becomes a liability as you go through an active day. I find it is also much easier to simply handle the Sony and aim it at the things you want to film. With the Pocket, you're always thinking about where the gimbal is pointing, and it becomes awkward and challenging to get it to actually film what you want to film. You end up staring at the screen of the Pocket all the time and all your attention is focused on the camera. It serves as a barrier between you and the world. With a traditional camera body like the Sony, you can simply aim the camera body at your subject and you know that the lens is also pointing at your subject. The gimbal lens of the Pocket can be pointing in all kinds of directions separate from how you're holding the Pocket camera body itself. You have to constantly be checking where the gimbal is pointing. The Sony doesn't require so much thought and attention. It allows you to interact more naturally with what is around you and not focus on the camera itself as much. I used to have a Pocket 2, and I gave up on using it for vlogging because of these reasons. It was simply too much trouble to handle in the real world. The specs sound good for the Pocket 3, but the form factor of the camera itself plus the delicate and exposed gimbal makes it unsuitable in day-to-day use for me. For me, the form factor and handling of the Sony is a big advantage and I would include it in a comparison of these cameras.
Great comparison, hopefully a weekness of the rotating screen will not end the lifetime of the osmo pocket before the battery does. Timelapse capabilities would have been a missing point.
It’s 5 other videos right behind this filmed on the Osmo pocket plus there are tons of samples from both cameras in THIS video. If I’m talking about both cameras and need to show them side by side, how you suppose I do that with one of the cameras I need to use for the comparison? Yall viewers are weird. Can’t please yall. Could literally hand yall heaven on a plate and yall will still find a way to complain.

Just received the pocket. Will be putting it to the test tomorrow as I travel to Virginia from Miami.
Awesome coverage on Osmo Terry. Great comparisons ! Wish you all the best and happy Holidays!!

I’m gonna agree with you here
The same way they won't put fans on non-FX cameras because they know it will cannibalize the FX series

@terrywarfield how you get a black mist filter with your combo ? DJI doesn't put that in ours ?!?!?!

The Pocket 3 internal battery is legit. And the fast charging is pretty crazy too!!!
I totally agree Pocket 3 is a GREAT Camera!!!!
Agreee!!!
I think Sony gotta respond with ZV1M3 asap and up their game...
ACE Pro - moving up FAST
The real big upgrade of the pocket 3 is the beautiful 10 bit d-log. It makes no sense to use the normal profile, in my opinion
Agree
Still love my GoPro 12 with the Max Len 2.0 superview - equal to 9 mm lens

So two things have happened that I didn't think was possible... Terry is wearing a loose shirt, and I actually agree with him about something. Wow.
definitely the video from the Sony camera looks better quality🤷♂🤷♂🤷♂🤷♂
DJI OSMO pocket is vlog camera killer. Every aspect it's better than Sony ZV1.the only problem is durability😅
Take a shot everytime his shoulder is on fire.
You forgot to say that Sony has 18-50 mm optical zoom while DJI has none.. I wouldnt say that DJI did win hands down but it has some good things..

Dpj paid well to 💩 on Sony 😂
The black mist filter is a $50 add on that’s out of stock like all the other accessories. You pro RUclipsrs are blest…😂
Freewell have filters that are much cheaper and available.👍
Does Sony even make a BPM filter? I didn’t think so. So then you really need to compare third party filters; Which can be had for much less.
I've been working in the entertainment industry for 30 years.
