Can't wait for my youngest to go out with me and his older brother and cousin. A lot of people think stuff like this is to hard on kids but they have more energy than one would think. Thanks for Sharing!
Hope you can all get out together soon. I agree, every hike and every kid is different but I think if they are properly equipped with manageable weight then it's a great way to spend time together. Thanks for watching! Check out our Hardcore Mountain Bushwack video if you get a chance. That was a tough one.
Yes, I remember thinking the same thing on that trip. My pack was heavy and the trail was steep and I remember it being hard to talk. Perhaps they could have carried a little more weight in their packs. One looks quite full but it's mostly feathers.
vmhomes101 Oh wow, that's awesome! Have a great trip! Lots of us out there starting them young! Good to see. Time well spent together. They always get lots of encouraging comments out on the trail. Enjoy! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have to say the funniest part was when the youngest son said "this is harder than it looks" and he didn't seem to be having any trouble at all. It's awesome that you share these adventures with your kids like that and that they seem to absolutely love it. Maybe slow them down a little by gradually sneaking in more weight in their bags? :)
Lol, ya, with his little Camelback backpack on. Couldn't have been that much trouble. He's into a bigger backpack now carrying a little more. Tryin' to keep the weight as light as possible though. Enables us to go further and even do a little bushwacking now and then :) Thanks for watching!
Thanks +Ray Harkins I've got the weight down quite a bit since then. And with the boys getting older and stronger and able to carry more and more of their gear, it'll get even lighter :) But yes, that was a great trip! Thanks for watching!
You're welcome and thank you for watching! I hope you can get out and do it soon. It's so great to have those mountains so close. Check out Hikin' Jim's blog for maps of trails and water sources and the sgwa.org message board for current conditions.
Very nice video, I liked it a lot. These kids look fantastic. However, only as an observation for you to value it as you see fit, 6 and 8 years old, are very small ages to carry very heavy backpacks for that age. Keep in mind that it is not healthy for the backs of those children if the backpacks are too heavy (I do not know if they were too tight or not). For them to feel the adventure, perhaps the best thing is that they carry in their backpack their sleeping bag (which is bulky and fills the backpack to have them feel that the backpack is full and they load it full), and something more like their survival equipment, front lantern, whistle, and things like that are necessary if they are lost, but they do not weigh, and the parents load the rest of their equipment so that the kids carry the minimum weight. Once they are older, they can carry a heavy backpack. Greetings from Spain and congratulations for such a beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.
kevlar steiner totally agree! That's all they really had in there. Looked full but weren't heavy. Just bulky. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment, thank you!! 🙂
Very cool trip.... the boys can walk.... maybe they have even a better condition then daddy.... maybe maybe maybe :) it's just awesome that you bring your kids into nature to experience it's beauty . thanks for the video atb oakleafNL
oakleafNL B Ya, you can tell I'm winded by my voice, it was work just to talk. They just kept chatting the whole time. Definitely did better than me :) I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment, thank you!
Daniel Cash we reached the top on the other side via South Fork Trail a little after this one. But I've been thinking about doing this one again. It was so much fun with the snow. Might do San Bernardino and Momyer first though. I hope we get a lot of snow this winter. See you on the trail!
For me, really disappointed. Because my son autistic:( . It could be very risky for us. Even nice people like you great pleasure to watch. Thanks again for videos. But surely I will try in future times.:)
türker gökhan I wish you and your family all the best. Any time you can spend together is valuable. I hope someday you and son can enjoy the trips you'd like to take together. Glad you enjoyed our video. Thanks again for watching :)
Not too much lately, I am 70 years old, but in my youth and through my prime I have hiked all the mountain areas in So Cal, and some in the Sierras. I bagged Mt. Whitney one time. But I still plan on hiking San Gorgonio again soon. I admire your videos and your boys, great kids ! And a great dad too !
Thank you for the kind words, really appreciate that :) So thankful to have so much beautiful wilderness areas to explore so close to home. I'm hoping to get back up into San Gorgonio soon. I injured my leg riding my bicycle somehow about a year and a half ago and it's been real stubborn getting back to normal. It finally feels like I might be on the home stretch. Going to be cautious and see how it goes.
Adorable cute boys and the Dad is very calm and mellow.
Awesome that the little one's enjoy it as well. They're troopers!
Great video!!

How are the trails there since the Lake Fire tragedy in 2015?
Lee Coffman haven't been up there yet. Planning to soon. I'll let you know when I do. You been getting out?
