    The Ordinary vs Paula's Choice
The Ordinary and Paula’s Choice are arguably the two most popular skincare brands on the market. As many of you know, The Ordinary is loved by many for their budget friendly products, because essentially you usually get one active ingredient per product, hence the low prices.
Paula’s Choice, on the other hand, packs its products with several active ingredients in a single product as well as some extra goodies.
Paula's Choice Azelaic Acid. Why Azelaic Acid is Good?
Let’s start out with the paulas choice azelaic 10%. The first being the salicylic acid, which is going to give you an exfoliating advantage, licorice root: which you know that the glabridin in it was shown to inhibit UVB-caused pigmentation, giving you an advantage for discoloration, and this is why Im a fan of licorice root. They also include allantoin which has softening and smoothing properties. Interesting too, they use bisabolol, which if you dont know, are the active parts of chamomile, which can be great especially if you have a lot of facial redness.
Now as for The Ordinary Azelaic Acid. This one is also a 10% concentration. And if you take a look at the ingredients. You see a lot of silicones. Well the purpose of them, is to make the thick texture of a product easier to spread. It also can help keep the skin both soft and supple and some even say it helps them reduce the look of their large pores. They also include tocopherol so you can get some UVB protection throughout the day as well. But with that said, tocopherol can be somewhat comedogenic, and a bit too rich, especially for oilier skin types. So keep that in mind if youre more on the oiler side.
    How to Use Azelaic Acid?
First, wash your face with a cleanser, and follow with toner if you use one. Then, apply a thin layer of azelaic acid. Then wait about 10 to 20 minutes, and follow it up with a moisturizer. Once or twice a day.
How Long Does Azelaic Acid Take to Work?
With both these products, keep in mind the results wont come overnight. But you should see some improvement anywhere between six weeks and three months mark. So if youre tolerating the product just fine. There is no reason to stop early. And I know ill get asked, well what about for more severe cases like cystic acne. Azelaic wont do much for severe cases of acne. Because remember, its a mild acid and wont get into the skin that far deep. But, what it can do is, help with the pigment that's left over after an acne lesion clears up. And thats important.
Azelaic Acid for Discoloration and Inflammation.
If you are leaning more on the acne side and the discoloration side, so if you get some acne and acne marks after and you want a fix for that. Then go with Paula’s Choice Booster solution because of the addition of salicylic acid and licorice root.
Azelaic Acid for Redness and Rosacea.
And If you want to reduce sensitivity and redness and are more on the rosacea side, then the ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension would fit better, especially If you are on a tight budget and don’t mind the silicone texture.

The ordinary works fine for me as far as redness.. I noticed a difference in the redness of my skin within a week..... It's been three weeks and the redness is almost gone... I tried a new retinal with a salacilic acid cleanser. That I was using twice a day which was a big no no.... But I think I will pick up the paulas choice for using once a week for exfoliation.

Rosacea type 2 here, the ordinary one didn’t help much but I loved the texture as it instantly mattified my oily skin. I’ve been using Paula’s Choice for a few months now and it works better, skin can tolerate it much better and I see some improvement

I like to feel like I have nothing on my face when I apply products. Would prefer for my face to feel normal-dry then to feel like i have a moisturizer or anything. Would the Ordinary or the Paulas choice one suit me better?

Is the SA in the Paula's Choice product too much for everyday use? I want to avoid irritation, but still get the benefits of azelaic acid and exfoliation.

It’s a pretty low percentage at 0.5% which is totally fine for daily use. Most exfoliating products that actually “exfoliate” start at 1%. Plus the only people who would not be able to tolerate 0.5% daily would be those with ultra sensitive skin.
