"I'm an insect who dreamt he was a man....and loved it....but now the dream is over, and the insect is awake."
-- Best line of the film. Seth Brundle is such a tragic character. He was a good, innocent man who was destroyed by happenstance and one mistake in judgement. This film was brutally gory, but it was also a very good story. Great acting performances.

Yeah I agree, Stoogie. He seriously painted that picture for me with that line. Ouch!

Dude you have the best reactions to jump scares!
This is easily my favourite Jeff Goldblum movie- Poor Seth, all he wanted to do was create a new form of transportation because he got motion sickness.
PS- the "What is this? I don't know." bulge growing out of Seth's left side... In a deleted scene it reveals itself as a tiny "fly leg" that bursts out of his side.
Seth then proceeds to *bite it off!* Test audiences were so completely grossed out some couldn't finish watching the movie so they cut that scene out.
    Great reaction! Just subscribed!

Yoooo! Sounds like they took a lot of great things out of this one. Someone told me about the foot scene and I just had to look it up. I would've loved to see a fly leg growing lol
Thanks and welcome to the channel =D

The original film from 1958 had the two parts (Human and Fly) stay as separate beings. So the scientist came out of the transporter with a giant Fly head and claw for his right hand, and there was a tiny fly with a man's head and right arm that escapes.
The scientist is mercy killed by his girlfriend (like this version), however she uses a huge hydraulic press to prevent the truth from being learned. She's put under arrest for murder.
The Detective on the case doesn't believe the wild story about the experiment and accident. But the scientist's best friend and the Detective hear "HEEEELP MEEEEEE!" coming from a spider's web in the park outside. When they look closer they find the fly with a human head and arm just about to be eaten by the spider. The horrified Detective swats them both, putting it out of its misery- also destroying all the evidence this ever happened. The Detective drops the charges against the girlfriend and calls it a suicide.

You think to yourself, "Is a fly really living with this much energy and craziness?" It seems not sustainable, but then they don't live very long do they? So yea.
But on another note, yeah there's about 20 minutes of this movie where it's a story about a very intelligent drug addict. A straight up urban drama, gritty lol.

My man asked about the baboon and surprisingly, there's an answer! There's a deleted scene on the dvd where he combines the baboon with a cat and then he beats it to death with a pipe. It didn't test well with audiences so it was cut.

    "Be afraid. Be very afraid."
Fun Fact: Mel Brooks didn't want people to know he was a producer for the film, because he thought people wouldn't take it seriously if they knew he was involved.
Real Reaction Fact: Geena Davis claims that the only time she felt "grossed out" by the amount of gore was in the scene where Seth's ear falls off and she holds him. She states that her reaction to holding her face up to Jeff Goldblum's was not acting and that she was indeed really grossed out.
Doctor Cronenberg Fact: After watching some of his early films, director Martin Scorsese asked to meet David Cronenberg. Upon meeting him, Scorsese said he looked like a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon. This inspired Cronenberg to give himself a cameo as a doctor. It was Geena Davis's idea that he appear as the gynecologist.
Pinocchio's Revenge Fact: Two puppeteers were located underneath the floor animating the inside-out baboon while a third pumped blood. All three of them had to wear raincoats because of the large amounts of blood being pumped. Frequently the rest of the crew would break for lunch and forget about the three underneath the floor.

David Cronenberg's horror are good at getting under your skin... hes the master of body horror, but his stuff tends to be "smarter" than your average horror movie. Like horror made by a collete professor. Hes also acted in a few things.. hes a scientist in Jason X, and hes the villian in the underrated "Nightbreed" by Clive Barker (1990).. the directors cut of that is the one to watch.

I don't know about the mating habits of flies, but I know that moths are so devoted to baby-making that they lose the ability to eat once they leave the caterpillar stage. As adults they lose their mouths and seek out a mate before they starve to death.
Now I'm just wondering how the story might have gone if Seth had melded with a moth instead of a fly, lol. Just keeps running into bright lights and shit.

I’m back in Florida with the windows open…for now. You’re right, that is the best way to watch a scary movie, that’s why I’m going to wait until it gets dark out here. Thanks for reacting to this disgusting and what I think is also a rather amusing movie Charlie.

I think you would like the movie Red (2010) and Red 2 (both with Bruce Willis). Best non spoiler info I can think of is it's about retired agents forced out of retirement. There's quite a few well know actors in the movies. There's action, comedy, and some romance so you could watch it with your girl too.

    My favorite horror/scifi movie.
Cronenberg outdid himself on this one.
Well cast, well acted and well executed by Cronenberg. (The Baron of Body Horror)
The practical effects still look good in a land of CGI.
You actually felt bad for Brundlefly at some point, especially when he pointed the gun to own Fly head.
It's more of a tragedy romance story with a lot of ickyness attached to it.
And that jump scare made me lol.
But that's the fun of these movies.
    Fun reaction.

i never saw this one before, but i did see the 1958 version when i was like 5 or 6 late at night on cable. i don't remember much of it but i just remember the ending and it kind of scared me.
i wouldn't try teleportation, unless it was a natural power like instant transmission or something. humans mess stuff up to much when creating stuff like this.
that and there's a big conspiracy theory about star trek and their transporters, that when they they break your atoms down and reput them together during teleportation that it's not really you, but a copy of you. the original you was destroyed to create the copy, and with every teleportation you do the cycle continues. but it's okay because at the end of the day as long as it's a version of you that exists that's all that matters. that kind of philosophical dilemma about existence scares me, so nah i'm not trying it.
a teleporter for food at reataurants would be cool though...unless a bug crawls or files in while the food is being teleported and it fuses with-....you know what, nevermind...
i recommend the blob. just like the fly it's a cult classic, came out in 1958, and has an 80's version too. the 80's version is a little more vulgar though. it's been a while but i watched both and remembered liking them.

How come nobody spots this major plothole?, why doesn't the machine combine the plate and the steak like it does Brundle and the fly?.

    • @joebloggs396
      @joebloggs396 8 месяцев назад

Maybe it joins organic things together, until the machine gets damaged by the gun.
But really if you're into a film small details in the plot never matter, what matters is the character interactions in the best films.
