You guys will LOVE Jackie Brown. To me it's one of Quentin's most slept on films but it's one of his best. It's an adaptation of an Elmore Leonard novel but it still has Quentin's brilliant dialog. Please watch it next. It would be his next film chronologically (seeing As you guys have seen Pulp Fiction).

Check out True Romance (1991) Tarantino wrote it but the studios didn't let him direct. Tony Scott(Ridley Scott's late brother) directed it it was shot in Tony Scott's style (he shot the orginal Top Gun), but the the characters and plot are pure Tarantino. You should also watch Natural Born Killers Tarantino wrote it too.

This movie only opened in 19 theatres and then expanded to 61, for the entire country. (For reference large - opening movies would open in 2,000 theatres). When it was finally released on VHS to Blockbuster, et al, it was rented out solid for weeks where I lived. Pre-internet, things like word of mouth and movie reviews in magazines and papers could help an underground film like this get popular. The 90s was a great decade for movies.

The black cop who teaches Mr. Orange the commode story got his part over Samuel L. Jackson. When he ran into Tarantino at the premiere, Quentin basically said, "Don't worry, I've got a part that's perfect for you." Hence, the role of Jules Winnfield came to be the legend it is today.

  • @BigGator5

    "Relax. Have a cigarette."
    "I quit."
    "Alright."
    "Why, you got one?"
Fun Fact: Filmed in thirty-five days.
Medical Fact: During filming, a paramedic was kept on the set to make sure that Mr. Orange's (Tim Roth) amount of blood loss was kept consistent and realistic to that of a real gunshot victim.
Music Enthusiast Fact: Madonna, who is the main topic of the opening conversation, really liked the film, but refuted Quentin Tarantino's Like A Virgin (1992) interpretation. She gave him a copy of her Erotica (1992) album, signed: "To Quentin. It's not about dick, it's about love. Madonna."
Pacifist Panic Fact: Michael Madsen had difficulty filming the torture scenes, due to his strong aversion to violence of any kind, and was particularly reluctant when he was required to hit Kirk Baltz. When Baltz ad-libbed a line that his character has a child at home, Madsen, who had just become a new father himself, was so disturbed by the idea of leaving a child fatherless that he almost couldn't finish the scene.

Mr. Orange is laying on the floor bleeding at the warehouse while Mr. White and Mr. Pink are in the other room trying to figure out what's happening. Tarantino gives you the first clue that Orange is the cop by the color of the bottles on the shelf in the back. The white and pink bottles are on one side of the shelf while the orange jars are on the opposite side by themselves.

FYI: Mr. Pink is caught and arrested outside the warehouse. Everything that happens outside the warehouse is on the music/sound effects track. If you listen to that track isolated, you can hear what is happening outside the warehouse plain as day. Mr. Pink is shot trying to escape. Though he was shot, Mr. Pink is still healthy enough to get out of the car and be placed in handcuffs. So presumably he was healthy enough to go to prison. Most of what happens outside the warehouse is hard to hear because the conversation between Mr. White and Mr. Orange covers up the what is happening outside.

Before you see Jackie Brown you might want to see the 1980 movie Alligator. Robert Forster is in both, and after he died a few years ago Tarantino talked about how his idea for Forster’s character in Jackie Brown was that he was his character from Alligator. They aren’t technically the same character, they’ve got different names. But the way Tarantino thought about it was that Forster’s Jackie Brown character used to be a cop, dealt with the events of Alligator, retired, moved, and became bail bondsman...also Alligator is a pretty cool monster movie.

Planet Terror is director by the director of From Dusk till Dawn. A version of Planet Terror and a version of Tarantino’s Death Proof were originally released together as Grindhouse alongside trailers for fake movies (although now two [three if you count the Canadian version that had Hobo with a Shotgun] have been turned to actually movies) directed by Edgar Wright, Eli Roth, Rob Zombie, and Planet Terror director Robert Rodriguez.

And the one you call crazy that kidnapped the cop if you listen his name and when they talk, his ladt mame is Vega whuch is Vincent Vegas brother ( john Travoltas character in Pulp Fiction. He actually wrote Mr Pink for himself, in part as a caricature of his own personality, but then Steve Buscemi came into the audition and did a better cartoon version of Quentin than Quentin could. Quentin did keep the Madonna monologue for himself, that was originally written to be Mr Pink's opening spiel and he re-wrote it for Mr Brown.

You can light a Zippo lighter with a finger snap if you do it right. Takes practice, but you can do it. You basically need someone to teach you. It's all about where you place everything in relation to everything else. The mechanics. Whoever figured that out in the first place is an OCD demented genius.
The spin wheel on a Zippo is a hard, spiky, abrasive mf'er. You need the back of your middle finger on the spin wheel at top knuckle. It's painful.
It takes practice, but you can do it. It's difficult to pull off succesfully. Done it myself.
Damn! Haven't smoked in 15 years and now I really crave a cig thinking about this. Must resist.

Regarding Quentin's use of the n word: it really bothered me at first when I saw Dogs and Pulp in the theater back in the day. It made me uncomfortable. But, I soon realized that it was supposed to make me feel uncomfortable, and more importantly, Quentin's showing us that these are not "good" people. Even when they seem like they're not so bad, or they give us little peek at their humanity, they'll spout that language to remind you that they're not nice; they're hateful criminals. So of course they have some racist-ass thoughts rolling around in their demented heads. At least that's my take on it.
Thanks for your thoughtful, honest reactions and reviews!

You can flick a Zippo in two ways: One way is definitely going to work, but another is (for some reason) very satisfying, where you snap your fingers and it connects exactly. But the scene suggests he's nervous, because he wouldn't bother if he wasn't practiced.

I've been a true admirer of QT since ''Reservoir Dogs'' (1992), everytime he announced his next movie, I was so excited, still am....(can't wait for his 10th and final movie ''The Movie Critic''). Next reaction ''Jackie Brown''? It's one of his greatest movies. P.E.ace from overseas, The Netherlands. Btw., listen very closely, on head Phones, mr Pink gets killled....

You guys are some smart motherfuckers! That's right! Of all of the reactions to this movie, you guys picked up on things faster than anyone else. You've also contributed the idea that Pink can't do anything with those diamonds without Joe. He'd have to go to another country that's off the grid to be able to use those diamonds without suspision. He said that he neeed the money so i doubt he had the money to be able to leave the country. All he would have is those diamonds which would have gotten him caught. Great job, guys.
