    Matt, this is perfect! This was a penny-dropping moment for me, and cracked an effect I’d been trying to execute in P/Shop for several years. I’m a huge fan of Irish illustrator Steve Simpson’s work, but would never have dared to ask him how he adds the stippling to his beautiful pieces… but he probably uses a similar approach to the above. Thanks for the breakthrough!

    Apart from brush size shortcut which you mentioned (brackets next to the P) there is also very handy one: hold Ctrl an Alt and drag the mouse, left and right movement for brush size, up and down for softness...

    Nice. This really bridged the 'naturalness' problem for me. Opens up the possibility of handmade process work. Thanks

    Using a stylus and tablet, is there a way to vary the width of the "brush" so that the stipple dots remain the same size, but the width of the stoke varies with pen pressure? I'm trying to find a digital equivalent of using coquille board & pencil - where the texture (of the board) stays the same, but the number of stipple dots revealed (or darkened by the pencil) vary with the pencil pressure or width of the pence lead in contact with the coquille board. Great tutorial, Thanks!

    Thanks! Is there any shortcut for changing the scatter (not the brush size)? I mean to have a bigger or smaller radius but conserving the brush dots size?

    Great tutorial! I've only just found your tuts and loving them. For this stipple shading effect, is there any chance you could point me to a tut (or maybe you could do one) where you're actually applying this brush to some artwork. I've got a good idea of what the end result is, but would love to see the application of it. And again, very nice work!

    • @MattBorchert
      @MattBorchert  10 лет назад

      I don't have a tutorial for that right now, but I'll definitely look into making one (and maybe making a free brush to use along with it). Thanks for the feedback!

    Hi O/ Anyone know how to ad space between my shapes. I cant find out how to make my brush more "airy" Its to thick and I cant even se the shape. Even prevent overlap would be awesome.

    What size artboard do you typically use for brushes?

    • @MattBorchert
      @MattBorchert  9 лет назад +1

      alyssa balboa The maximum brush size for the newest version of Photoshop is 5000x5000px, so I wouldn't go larger than that. The size sort of depends on what you're doing. For something like a stipple brush I dont usually go above a few hundred pixels...but that really depends on what I'm making. You can always make it the maximum and scale it down as needed.

    Hey! does scatter brush also known as noise/grainy brush?

    • @MattBorchert
      @MattBorchert  3 года назад

      Sure, seems reasonable to me. :) Although noise is a bit different, although it looks quite similar.

    • @destroyion1e73
      @destroyion1e73 3 года назад

      @@MattBorchert how noise is bit different, can u explain

    • @MattBorchert
      @MattBorchert  3 года назад

      Noise tends to be very, very small grain. It's far more difficult to make up the individual specs with noise then it is with a typical stipple brush. For example, use a very soft brush in Photoshop and then change the blending mode to noise. You'll see what true noise looks like.

    • @destroyion1e73
      @destroyion1e73 3 года назад

      @@MattBorchert if thats the case, why modt of artist name their brush noise indtead of grainy?

    • @MattBorchert
      @MattBorchert  3 года назад

      People can name brushes whatever they want, and you can certainly make stipple brushes that have a very noisy effect! Just about how you decide to set them up. :)
