One more thing in case people aren't aware: if you press BOTH triggers while in a grind you can then pop into a completely different grind on the same rail. Great video! I definitely learned some things I'm eager to try out
this is the video i NEEDED, good job explaining everything, after playing the game for about a week now i still have trouble with noseblunts and blunts but that was cus i was only using one stick to press... now i know!
Yes, this helped me so much! But I definitely agree. I'm trying to figure out how to do the switch stance. Except it's completely different from Session. So I don't fully get it.
Varial flips are easy you do a kickflip and move the analog stick up to the right corner in goofy for regular it would be up to the left. Also hardflips in goofy is the same thing but with the analog stick going up the left corner
Sugar cane is on your other truck , that was a grapefruit grind. Also your suskis and salads are mixed up. Super informative though. Gonna have to start doing low pop into grinds, didn’t realize how much more real it looked
Yes! Thank you for letting us know about the sticks being used for smooth pop outs, I didn’t know you could use them to one foot catch either! You’ve opened a whole new world of opportunity here haha
Really good tutorial. After almost 190h of playing this game I have already gotten the hang of everything but this tutorial will really help new players.
Quick tip for double grinds or jumping out of grinds I came looking for more tips on grinds but saw that you left out jumping from grinds to grinds. Found out yesterday that you could do this by using the bumpers before jumping, just press the bumper before jumping and you'll go to each side, left bumper to jump left or right bumper to jump right out of the grind, and press BOTH of them right before jumping and you'll go foward. Keep in mind that you have to PRESS them right before jumping out of the grind, not hold, PRESS them right before jumping out of the grind.
What he showed for a sugarcane wasn't a sugarcane. A sugarcane is the trick Chris Miller used to do. Backside 270 to fakie front smith. Matt Berger does em down rails. Frontside 270 to fakie back smith is a frontside sugarcane. Helpful video other than that.
Thank you so much. I’ve been figuring the mechanics of the game out by myself, but couldn’t get the nose blunts done. And I didn’t now you the use of pressing the analogue buttons.
I'm stuck at work right now, but I'll put these tips to work tonight. Very informative and great vid, can't wait to see your tips on flip tricks ( I wanna learn impossibles and forward flips!) I had known but forgot upon playing the game that you could click the sticks to pop out, so that is something I'll use for sure. Again, great vid, on you Ghost of Tsushima stuff as well!
You can't do impossibles in this game as far as I know. Forward flips are possible I think, just do like a kickflip but hold the front flip diagonally forward and left instead of straight left
Great video! I've been using a different approach for crooks/overcooks; up on the front foot to lock in and left/right on the back foot. Another way to do nose and tail slides is to adopt the powerslide/shifty movement like t boardslides but being further from the ledge, this creates a pretty smooth lockin for super fast slides.
Just a little tip, EVEN IF you use the triggers to start your boardslide/lipslide, you can still shifty/revert out of it at the end of the grind which looks WAY better. So, entry with the triggers, exit with the shifty
I am so pleased that you changed the color of the shoes to match the controller stick colors...like that's pretty smart but simple...I feel like not enough people are noticing that.
this video is so clutch! I love this game I can spend hours doing a bunch of varitations on just one spot. Im not any good but I look forward to getting better. Could you please do one for grabs?
Nice vid. Thanks. Would be nice to explain about poping out with the RS or LS because they are so useful to make 270s out much more realistic. Specially for 270 reverts out.
Same here, I actually liked session a lot more than Skater XL at first but now that Skater XL has a real release and session... not sure what's going on with session. One thing though, Skater XL NEEDS that Session feature where you can place obstacles wherever you want them. That was honestly half the fun of that game
Awesome video! Very informative, and helpful. Would love to see a flip tricks tutorial. Especially for the varial flips. Seems like its 1 and 100 times you'll do 1 and the rest are tre flips.
This has been helpful! I'd love to see a vid on flip tricks. I got used to [equally good game] Session's controls and consistent 3shuvs and what not give me issues in SkaterXL.
It seems pretty similar to Session to me? Maybe session is a bit more on rails if you know what I mean, the results are more clear when you do the inputs. With a 3 shuv just push one side with your back foot, make sure you have enough space and HOLD that back foot to the side until the board has made a full 360 rotation, then release to catch, otherwise you'll just do normal shuvs
@@PlaySA ahhh maybe that's the ticket, holding until it's a 3shuv. I can get them just not consistently. Thought it was just a harder flick. I didn't know if I should start with the back foot (right stick [reg]) down at 6'oclock or start it at 3'oclock, you know? Thanks for the info though!
Really good vid! thanks for the tips. I didn't know there was an input for 5050's I always just tried to land straight on top and hopefully lock in haha.
Great vid but you got suskis and salads reversed brotha. Also, sugarcanes are basically an alley oop hurricane grind, not what you have in the vid. There may be a nickname for what you put as sugarcanes, Cole grind, etc. but also just 180 switch feeble or something basic like that.
willys are my favourite trick to do on a ladge but ingame any more tips with the swtching stuff like 5 0 to switch crook am struggling to make em look decnent
Great tricks you did in the beginning, I can tell you’re a skater haha (I already knew that though because I saw your old skate footy and we talked for a bit about skating, I miss skateboarding, I feel too old to do it now at 30, I feel embarrassed even though skateboarding was my LIFE for sooooo many years. Loved the kickflip backflip 270 out! I can’t wait to do a trey flip front tail to fakie, haha and a trey flip noseblunt (like Eric Koston did on a handrail at the end of yeah right! I think Chris cole did it on a gold rail in some zero video as well, it’s a great trick (I’m sure by now many other skaters have done trey flip noseblunts on big handrails that I’m not aware of) great video! Btw, you have suski and salads mixed up but that’s ok, very understandable mistake) salad is like a feeble with the front truck raised where as a suski is like a smith with the front truck raised
I read that you feel to old and embarrassed. Don't worry about what people think of you do it stop worrying how people perceive you for skating no matter what age
KINGxTERRY thanks brother. I should go skate, when I was younger I always thought the older skaters at the park were badass lol some of them were pretty gnarly. When I was younger a lot of the older guys were from a different era, they were usually crazy bowl skaters that would go Mach 10 zipping around they were pretty nuts lol
Really good! This help me a lot. I sub for future tips. Need some help about: Pop out straight in a grind. Like.."five-o to flip to five-o" in the same ledge. And also reverts in manuals. Always pop a trick..I cant get theese two things. Great content keep it Up! 💯🔥
Use the bumpers. Press the left bumper right before jumping out and you'll go left, press the right bumper before and you'll go right, press both of them and you'll jump straigh foward and maybe continue the grind. I just found this out yesterday by myself trying to do 180s, felt great and came looking for more tips.
Thanks for this! Best video i watch on this game! Started on session and JUST got skater xl! I like skater xl more already(no hate to session just my preference!) theres so many small things better in this game that i didnt know that this helped with✌🏻
Nice work! Couldn’t help but seeing how loose the trucks look wobbling in the air like that in slow motion haha. Thinking about getting the game, are there options to alter truck tightness and wheel hardness etc?
Is there a better way to pop out of a grind to the left or right? Clicking the sticks just makes you magically pop out of the grind but I can't figure out for the life of me how to actually ollie out to the left or right.
yo homie! i could tell you skated irl from this video, but i checked the other vid with your old footage and shocked at how good you are!(pupecki bigspin out!) do you have any tips on how to air foot with both feet? ie for the purpose of doing hippy/kilty mcbagpipe ollies? i can do it by accident to a frustrating degree, but cant seem to figure out how to on purpose
Pro tip, don't press the sticks at all for 50-50 grinds. I did them the way shown in this video for my first 100 hrs or so in the beta and always had trouble with them. Just line your board up and Ollie up onto the rail
That should be possible. First get on the nose slide, then push BOTH triggers at the same time, then instantly launch the shuv/180, then input for the nose or tail. That will be really difficult but not impossible, find a long rail to practice on
Use the bumpers. Press the left bumper right before jumping out and you'll go left, press the right bumper before and you'll go right, press both of them and you'll jump straigh foward and maybe continue the grind. I just found this out yesterday by myself trying to do 180s, felt great and came looking for more tips.
Not bumpers, triggers. While you're in the first grind, push both triggers down then immediately pop up into your next grind, you'll see that you stay on the same rail and can do a separate grind

I feel like I learned real nose slides the exact same way in life, this game is awesome I can’t wait for updates
I will never do any of this, but I felt informed and entertained, thank you.
Dude just wait... I bet this dude has hours into this game. I cant wait to get all of this down!
Why isn t That hard
I figured out every grind by myself in like 2 days lol, you got it bruh

Yes, this helped me so much! But I definitely agree. I'm trying to figure out how to do the switch stance. Except it's completely different from Session. So I don't fully get it.
Alex Mullis hey bro with switch, just play NOLLIE when you’re riding switch
Varial flips are easy you do a kickflip and move the analog stick up to the right corner in goofy for regular it would be up to the left. Also hardflips in goofy is the same thing but with the analog stick going up the left corner
Why would you want to do a varial flip? Its an ugly truck.
Thank you!!! Exact vid I was looking for. I love how you explain everything so clearly and at a chill pace. 100% helped me out.
The hardest part is getting adjacent with the rail
I've been struggling with the crooks and turning out of grinds smoothly. Thanks for this my Friend.
These grinds look so realistic

Omg thank you so much, I was holding them and not pressing them and I couldn’t understand why my skater wasn’t jumping into the side I wanted.
I just tried double bumpers grind transition, sooo fun thanks again for the tips, should be in the video tho
And if you can tell me how to late flip / late shuv that be so cool
@@titouande800 I think late flips aren't in the game yet, you can do them on PC with mods, same with impossibles
Triggers. Not bumpers.
Not even kidding I could do every trick in this I just didn’t know what sugar canes were called but I didn’t know you could pop out like that. So sick

Great video Alex. I would love to see you make a few more Skater XL videos.
Thanks!
You didn't mention the losi grind and ive basically mastered it, it's almost the exact same thing as a Willy grind
thanks homie

I prefer to make nose and tail slides only with the sticks, you can do it like the boardslides with the sticks or with lt or rt
