    Thanks for the video. As another mentioned you get to this from UNDER the truck. I'll tell a funny on myself.... spent a few minutes looking around from the top wondering "geesh... perhaps my inability to even find the sensor should indicate I'm not qualified to change it??". 307,XXX miles on my 99 and I'm hoping for at least another 100k least. Bought this truck from late father in-law years ago and he'd left the spare CPS in the glove box for me. It was a nice reminder of what great man he was!

    Great...thanks for video. It helped me once I figured out you were underneath the truck, not coming from the top...ha. Getting it back on was harder than I thought....but I just got it in a little and tightened up the bolt and let the bolt pull it the rest of the way in. Obviously, first time diesel owner, but loving it!

    I recently got my first work truck, 2003 ford f250 with 7.3 diesel, and of course the problems start happening once I buy the truck (how it usually works, don't it?) But you know what? I had the symptoms of needing to replace this part, and I just did it in about 30-40 minutes because of how simple and easy your video made it. We'll see if it ultimately fixes the problem, but either way, your video helped reduce some of the headache I've been having getting this old girl to keep running. That right there, is worth a lot to me. I just subscribed. Keep up the good work man.

    Putting it back on u need to use the bolt to push it back in after u put it back in the hole ratchet slowly u will know when u can push it in more with ur hand torque is bout 18 in lbs

    Hmmm I wonder if it was a mistake to buy this OEM then.
    After replacing the sensor, I took the truck out for a test drive and I didn’t have any stall out issues anymore . But we’ll see, there were a few times where the idle wanted to drop below 500rpm’s but kept itself running .
    I still have yet to take it up to highway speeds, I was just cruising around my neighborhood at 30mph.
    So far, I replaced the MAP sensor and camshaft. It’s been a night and day difference but it’s still not perfect like how I’d like it to be.
    I bought an OEM IPR sensor last week and I have yet to install it.
    Hopefully that will help get me that perfect idle and smooth shifting.

    I bought a new grey sensor and installed it and my truck wouldn’t run so I put the old one back in so I could drive to the parts store and exchange it. I ran on my old one again for 6 months dealing with it. I finally got tired of it and wasted my time trying to put the next new grey one in. It doesn’t work either so now I’m waiting for a new purple one to get here from Amazon. Hopefully it will work

  • @countrykid1640
    @countrykid1640 9 лет назад

    i have a late 99 7.3 one thing that i have be dealing with hasnt been stalling, starts right up runs fine cold, but once it starts to get warmed up it tends to start to run rough. no check engine light. the rough running kind of shakes a bit almost like it has a miss, but it doesnt sound like its missing out, also i can shut it down and fire back up and it will run fine again, along with i can come up to a stop light sometimes it idles fine sometimes it will start to have the shake right away, and other times it will run smooth for about 10 to 20 seconds and start to slightly shake and continue to get worse. the rpms dont drop below roughly 700 though and the tach doesnt jump much as if its struggling, and power is still right there once you hit the petal. Although at the same time, i have the marbles in a tin can sound from the TC some things i have noticed with that is, when the truck is cold hasnt been drove yet. put it in gear goes in drive easy, truck is quite TC is quite no rattle. smooth as can be almost like a new truck. as everything warms up more. it the marbles in a tin can comes and goes most of the time it sticks for a while. it had a small hiccup one day, where it took a bit of time to shift from 2nd to 3rd. another was it didnt want to go to reverse one time. i had to get the rpms up to go in reverse and stay in reverse. TC locks up just fine i have verified that. fluid is clean, and up on its full hot mark. sometimes when driving it shits smooth sometimes it kind of kicks a bit through 2 to 3rd and then 3rd to 4th it can be a little rough, sometimes smooth, sometimes it feels like the TC locks up right as it shifts into 4th or delayed kind of odd. no OD code no trans slip. and recently as of yesterday, when you put it in reverse the tin can rattle goes away and the engine gets a nice smooth deep tone tone too it. sorry its a long post. but im just kind of at a bit of a loss, no codes to go off of, and several odd things going on at once, and im not sure if the TC could be somewhat causing my weird rough idle feel but no change in engine tone. and no power loss or trans slipping, engine has 168k on it, trans is unknown as i bought the truck used. with 168k i would assume that either the trans has been flushed with as clean as the fluid is. but maybe the filter wasnt changed since the pan does have a drain plug i wonder if someone just drained i and filled with fresh fluid. so could that cause some of the issue? again sorry in advance. hopefully you might have heard of some of what i have described and help point me in the right direction.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 лет назад

      Have you changed the cam sensor already these can cause all kinds of issues and the new ones are quite cheap. As for the trans issue these are known for a few issue namely the baro reading being off causing all kinds of weird shift problems. Also this trans is known for torque converter issues causing low line pressure and uncommanded TCC engagement. Without a line pressure test and a scan tool to check pids we are just guessing. A few checks is the next logical step here.

    • @countrykid1640
      @countrykid1640 9 лет назад

      FordTechMakuloco no i haven't changed the cam sensor yet. I have heard that they a lot of weird things can happen from one that is failing so i was not sure if i should change it and see what happens. As for the trans, ya ive heard a lot about the 4r100. Most of what i have heard though was mostly related to the early 99s having bad TCs. I am pretty familiar with most older fords all the way up to 03 7.3s and of course who doesnt know about all the 6.0 issues?haha. but when it comes to transmissions thats just a whole new beast to me. I can do basics when it comes to that, and i do have scan tool experience. but the best thing to do would get my hands on a good scan tool and see whats going on in live time? Along with probably change the cam sensor? If so I know i should probably get that directly from ford, and be sure that it is the White updated sensor? Sorry about the first message being all rambled together, it was kind of late when i was posting that.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 лет назад +1

      Yeah the best thing to do is when it is happening is to watch the live data for TCC Slip DSD and Slip Actual that will tell all right there is the slip actual goes into the negatives. I would change the cam sensor if it has the old black one on there yes to the new Gray ones.

    • @countrykid1640
      @countrykid1640 9 лет назад

      Thank you, that will get me heading in the right direction. im pretty sure the issue is related to the torque converter, since when it shifts it doesnt slip. of course i dont have the proof till im able to check out everything with a scan tool. something else i noticed was at about 40 mph when it shifts the rpms are about 2k and then sometimes once it shifts they will glide down smooth and sometimes the rpms just drop off and other times the rpms will go down back up rapidly and drop again as if there is something that slipped. could that be a sign that the torque converter slips when it locks up or still something could be off with the shift points? and ill double check on the cam sensor. If i change it out and it doesnt change its idle then what else could cause it to do it. sign that somethings up with the ICP or IPR, maybe the IDM? Or both the trans problem could be related to my idle issue or vise versa?

I even somehow lost the bolt that holds this thing in (it dropped out of the non-magnetized socket and fell - who knows where . . I even got out my yard magnet - no joy. I ran my fingers all around and In the framework, and used a flexible magnet - no joy. So, off the Ford dealer to get another bolt - to the tune of $4! Ripoff, but no choice. This time I tied a piece of thread to the head of the bolt so every time it falls down I can find it. Next time I will gladly pay someone with a lift whatever they want to swap this sensor out.

      No this one was done on the ground it would take longer to rack the vehicle then to just lay on the ground and swap it out quick.

      "Quick" certainly doesn't describe MY experience with this. Your selection of music at the beginning of the vid should have tipped me off to the "impending doom" that was going to be this 'simple, quick' swap-out. Ha . . . Not a lot of room to get my hand in and out of the space. NO room for two hands, which would have made this much easier. But the video DID make it easier to tackle because I know what to look for and which tools to grab. Thank you!

      Here's s shot of what I had to find ways to weasel my hand up through to get to the Cam Sensor unit. It looks different than the view from YOUR project. I think the extra hoses might be from my second tranny cooler.

    had put in a NAPA CPS sensor 3 or 4 years ago but saved the original when it didn't fix the problem.
    Last week it started to randomly stall at idle so i reinstalled the OEM part. problem solved.
    My diesel guy told me NEVER put aftermarket sensors in this engine. Spend the extra money and buy from the dealer.

    I'm smart enough to have a 2005 with a 6.0, so i don't have to deal with that shit lol

      LOL, a 6.0 owner laughing at a 7.3 for engine maintenance, now I've heard it all.
      How's that 6.0 treating you?
