As has been mentioned elsewhere here, lighter fluid is good for removing tape residue. The magic effective component of lighter fluid is naptha, and it does work great for getting sticky tape gunk off. I would be careful using it on a painted surface and try it in an inconspicuous area to make sure it doesn't damage anything. I believe Goo One used to contain naptha, and it worked a treat at that time, but then they changed the formula to something less toxic, but also much less effective. I haven't bothered with it since.
I just used WD-40 to remove the double sided tape of a trim piece on my Ford Flex. It took a little time but I was able to totally remove the tape of off the plastic piece and the metal that attached to it. Thank You
I just came across this video and you were correct thank you. Vegetable oil removes it safely without damaging the paint. And after I wiped it clean it had a great shine on that spot. 👍👍👍thanks again...
I love go gone. I bought it today from Canadian tire for $10 and sprayed twice on a bunch of sticker residue that was left on my cars roof top sign. It worked so well that i am in love with this product. I’ll always buy this in the future without even thinking of any other product
After all these years and debate over what to use to remove sticker adhesive I still can't believe no one ever mentions lighter fluid. Plain Zippo type lighter fluid will loosen it up without melting it like Goo Gone, and won't leave oil all over everything that's hard to clean off. The great thing about lighter fluid is that it is safe to use on plastic and car clear coats(won't fog plastic). Just squirt some on the label or adhesive thoroughly. Then you can either wipe of with a paper towel or if the adhesive is thicker you can use a non-marring plastic tool to scrape off excess. Clean up with soap and water. Much better than any solvent. If you've ever shopped at TJ Maxx and tried to get the stickers off any houseware products you'll thank me.
@@BummersAbound What's your point? They're all technically solvents. Don't be a dick. My point is that Zippo type lighter fluid only contains one thing, a light petroleum distillate that will not harm a cars clear coat.
@@steves.7135Perhaps I nitpicked your statement Steve. And in doing so was being a dick. I apologize. In the spirit of helping people remove adhesive residue, I agree with you that zippo lighter fluid is a solvent. I prefer the vodka because the other 2 taste horrible in a martini.
have been using Vaseline melted to semi liquid form for years now on vehicles, melt it down and paint it on leave for a day and the gunk will scrape off with your finger nail, the key is allowing the petroleum in the Vaseline to soak in and do its job, its a winner every time. A colleague of mine likes using Diesel or Kerosene I don't like it because both stink but it does work.
A heat gun on low setting for a minute or so will soften the adhesive and make it significantly easier to remove with either method. With the right amount of heat, most stickers will peel right off, then use Googone or WD40 to clean up what little residue is left. Just be really careful with the heat if the surface is a softer plastic.
Good call. I used a heat gun and an old dishtowel to remove the number stickers from my mailbox. I softened the adhesive with the gun, scraped the top layer with a plastic knife, and then rubbed out the softened adhesive with the towel. I finished it off with WD40 to clear the remaining residue.
WD-40 is amazing. It just got off medical tape glue that’s been impossible to remove for months on my favourite WHITE jacket. Nothing worked, washing, vinegar, soaps, 100% acetone, ice bath, etc. 15 minutes and it’s ALL GONE. WD-40 is my go to for squeaky things, seized items, or glues on clothes. 😍
Goo Gone is an absolutely amazing product which works so well if used as instructed on the bottle, not rushed. I just finished my bottle and ordering another one now🙂
First of all, using Goo Gone on a vertical surface is virtually impossible, you can't let it sit long enough to affect the adhesive; it works best when left to soak for awhile. I have had exceptional luck with Goof Off, both the green stripe label for superglues and the regular black stripe label for other gooey stuff in removing ancient bumper stickers and foam trim tape from my truck. Both solvents do dry up fast and it does work better when wetter. You do have to rotate the paper towel frequently to keep a fresh part against the sticky stuff, otherwise it will just tend to swirl it around and smear it back on there. I use a Blue Ridge razor blade paint scraper at a very flat angle to gently slide under the old sticker and shave it right off (No, I haven't ever scratched my paint! Just keep it very flat with even pressure on the surface and watch the blade corners. Work slow and steady), and then use the Goof Off. Use this stuff outside or with really good ventilation; the fumes will rot your brain! Doesn't hurt the paint at all. Recently used it to remove the foam trim tape from a set of plastic rain guards that finally cracked and broke off. 19 year old dead, dry, crunchy foam trim tape. That was exciting. Took longer than the old bumper stickers, but Goof Off and the scraper still worked well. I am interested to try the WD-40 and see how it compares to the Goof Off on the bumper stickers though. Thanks for the great video!
thanks for the video WD-40 really worked for me just had to repeat the same application a few times until the glue is gone then a clean the left over glue with alcohol ...
I have a door that was covered with stickers. I got the stickers off but the residue was still there. I tried WD40 first and it did an okayish job. Then I tried the Goo Gone. I followed the instructions on the bottle you know spray on leave a few minutes and then wipe off. It works!! THE GOO GONE GOT RID OF EVERYTHING. If you want something to work right, follow the instructions.
Try fabric softener on stickers soaked in cosmetic facial pads on the car windows and pat them in place for half the day and blade them off. It’s gentle on your rubbers if the stickers are up against them instead of risking damaging rubbers with solvents or heat guns. Just use a blade and wipe up gum with remaining leftover face pads. And clean up with auto glass cleaner. This is good for baked sun hardened stickers on vintage cars too.😀
Goo gone is awesome. I put it on a strong hand towel and applied to the towel and rubbed it on the old adhesive and came right off. But I have to say the paint was pre waxed which made it easy and the sun backed it at 90 degrees before the application. Happy with goo gone.
Awesome! This helped me remove some of that sticker adhesive on a new fridge I though I had ruined the plastic by using a different product before this trick
I enjoyed the video plus the cheery music! Using WD-40 hadn't occurred to me, must give that one a shot. I will, however, remove the straw as "MegaSeeker" recommended. if your in a hurry, it will take longer to do, I use " brasso " brass metal polish, without shaking the tin, if you just dab on the liquid and let it soak in a couple of minutes, it starts dissolving the adhesive, this is in the UK, , if you have a liquid metal polish, brasso has - " isopropyl alcohol 3-5%, ammonia 5-10%, silica powder 15-20% and oxalic acid 0-3%" not saying it works on every adhesive, because there are so many different types.
YMMV. But I use goo gone all the time at work on the box cutters. Makes them cut like new. Also works great on the shredder if you get some tape or glue stuck in there from an envelope.
Ive used wd40 where nothing else would work! then I use goo gone to clean the wd40 off. Also using it with magic erasers works extra well, just be aware they are the equivalent of an extremely high grit sandpaper.
Try regular old charcoal lighter fluid. I tried it today and it worked very well on an old white board that had a bunch of masking tape residue on it. I used the Kingsford stuff (mineral spirits, not alcohol-based). I also tried ethanol and propanol, but they didn't work.
Remember that WD 40 can dull out/age out colored car parts if you leave it on and it reacts with sunlight. The color will fade and they become bristle aswell in some cases. Always wash it of if you ever use it on plastic or painted parts.
Nice video with the music in it but the best thing that I use to take this kind of stuff off is charcoal fluid then clean off the residue of the charcoal fluid when you use charcoal fluid it comes right off faster than both of these
WD/40 works great squirt a lil on stuck clue and spray some on paper towel rub it in and with a little old school thumb nail scraping while rubbing the WD 40 in , it comes off easily worked great on my Jeep Wrangler, I had to remove a beyond visible sun faded American Flag Decal, and replaced it with the thin Blue line Badge 👍👍very happy it worked great and the paint was not harmed one bit
Yup, used wd40 and a clean razorblade to take a sticker off my windshield, and a stupid dealership promo bumper sticker off of my car. Worked great. Left an oil residue, but eventually the car washes and rainfall washed it out. It's perfect.
Thank you for the thought. I always hate it that car dealerships stick somebody’s personal name on the back of your car. I won’t even wear jeans or sweatshirts with somebody’s name on them. Who wants your butt to say Calvin Klein or to have Tommy Hilfiger in bigger than life side letters on the front of your sweatshirt so thanks for the idea about how to get the ad sticker off my car.
Goo gone is amazing if you use it right. You can't just immediately wipe at it with a paper towel that just soaks it up anyway. Let it sit on there for about 30 seconds and then use a rag or sponge, depending on surfaces
I used goo gone on a super glued metal part. I glued it wrong. Then I freaked out. So I bought a bottle of goo gone and applied it to the metal part. After about 30 minutes I came back and pulled it apart. No problem.
I just debadged my 10 year old tundra...after removing the badges, heat up and scrape off most of the foam with plastic scraper, then soak in wd-40 for 10 minutes, scrape off the soft parts, resoak and wait 10 minutes, repeat until all gone! I was a skeptic before I tried it! Never a fan of WD, I am now!
What kind of comparison is it if you use neither according to the instructions? Is it easier to just have us watch you scrub or do a time lapse on the soaking and wait time? Still really no answer by the end of the video.
Thank you🙂 its not often i get nice comments on this video either lol...my consensus is that they hate the music or that i didnt soak em...yea definitely wd40 has a lot more uses and is a better choice to try
@@backyardchevy328 you literally didn't follow directions by letting it soak it! 5 minutes of doing nothing would have saved most of the time you spent rubbing. And if you're going to keep applying 1 you need to do it for the other. You know how many fish tanks an average Petco has? About 80 of just fresh..multiply that by an average of 3 (1.5"×2.5") stickers per tank, so 240 stickers- I removed all that by myself in about 2 hours with Goo Gone. It works when you give it time. Plus it's safe on way more surfaces and is no where near as toxic.
cool WD40 worked just fine to get some sticker label residue of a captain morgan bottle. Wiped it down with isopropyl alcohol to get the wd40 residue off after.
WD-40: Just take the canister and drop it on your workbench or even kick it around if you want. Goo-Gone: Once opened it's gonna tip over sooner or later. It looks like they've designed the bottle to tip over, no matter what. It's so narrow and tall so it's gonna happen some time. Smells great though...
I've tried the WD40, the Goo Remover, some light abrassives, 90% alcohol, paint thinner, cooking oil and don't know what else. THE BEST RESULT was achieved with NAIL POLISH REMOVER. Several times faster and more efficient.
With WD-40 you really should allow it a few minutes to soak in, so that it has time to penetrate the adhesive. If you had have done, it would have come off much easier and quicker.
That is a lot of work to remove the labels. It is very simple to remove them. All you have to do is use a good paper towel with alcohol. place the towel where the label is and let it soak the label. After a minute you can start rubbing the label.
Thank you I really appreciate the advice, and yea i definately got rid music on my newer videos for that reason, and will follow ur advice for further videos thank you.
I used the volume control and turned it off, it’s a neat little button that solves such problems. No music is always best, people worry too much about adding music, when none is best. Even with no talking, one can just write words and demonstrate. People also complain about “robot voice” (but would happily listen to fake Stephen Hawking and the computer voice they always played when they’d wheel him out to the masses... dental work and biometrics don’t lie, but those liars making bank off his name sure did), but they fail to realize people may have speech issues; be mute, have an accent they’d equally complain about, or the language isn’t their native tongue and they’d complain about that, too. Some people just like to complain. Others just shush up and say thank you for the information they didn’t have to pay for.
Yea i definately got rid of the music in all my newer videos and focus more on narrating instead, but i got a deep voice which still makes it weird cause people find it hard to understand me, but im working on it...i do appreciate the feedback and thank you:) hopefully i do a 2nd part with all the flaws corrected.
Ya, I think people complain too much, they’ll always whine about someone’s voice, and then whine if they have a robot instead, they’ll just whine because they like to. I’d rather people if they do use music that they don’t talk, but write, because then we can just turn it off if we want to and watch. I appreciate you doing the vid:)

Let it sit on there for about 30 seconds and then use a rag or sponge, depending on surfaces
was impressed the minute i heard the music and i joined!
Thank you🙂
I used goo gone on a super glued metal part. I glued it wrong. Then I freaked out. So I bought a bottle of goo gone and applied it to the metal part. After about 30 minutes I came back and pulled it apart. No problem.
The 5 minutes of rubbing is the same amount of time it needed to soak. 5 minutes is 5 minutes no matter if its soaking or rubbing.
You didn't have time to wait 5 minutes but it took you 5 minutes anyway lol
I just debadged my 10 year old tundra...after removing the badges, heat up and scrape off most of the foam with plastic scraper, then soak in wd-40 for 10 minutes, scrape off the soft parts, resoak and wait 10 minutes, repeat until all gone! I was a skeptic before I tried it!
Never a fan of WD, I am now!
Thats awesome..glad it worked
Acetone is the best thing, however you can't use it on plastic or paint because it will eat it away.
Yea definitely
What kind of comparison is it if you use neither according to the instructions? Is it easier to just have us watch you scrub or do a time lapse on the soaking and wait time? Still really no answer by the end of the video.
I prefer the smell of GooGone. And, to compare you must apply it on the same way.
"We don't got time for that" lol
Next time start with Brakleen. It’ll save you a ton of time! No damage to clear coat. 👍🏽
what is up with all the dislikes, great video! i didnt know wd40 also removes adhesive, goo gone is overpriced af and only does 1 thing
Denatured alcohol is the best for lifting adhesive without damage.
I'm jamming to this song 😎
Not often i get a nice comment from this video🙂 thank you...glad to be able to help lol🙂
WD-40 works magically!!! Thanks man!
Where do you get all that elbow grease from?
It comes automatically when you subscribe to the channel lol.
How about taking a small piece of tissue paper, soak it, slap it on, have a smoke, come back, wipe off?
Never tried that...ill have to see how that works...thank you
@@mraaaservices Brilliant!!!
The music was a good choice, I watched the whole thing, I didn't want to skip to the end.
Thank you i appreciate it..its not often people like the video's music choice based on the comments
Doesn't the Goo gone bottle say to heat the glue first?
Good luck w ur clear coat after using wd40
cool WD40 worked just fine to get some sticker label residue of a captain morgan bottle. Wiped it down with isopropyl alcohol to get the wd40 residue off after.
Well first off I use both, but I do use good gone most of the time. it works great! and just a little better than WD-40.
So what you are saying is that it takes just as much wd-40 to remove less sticker?
I’d say goo gone once removing car sticker and W-40 for older sticky residue idk lol both work great it seems
HAD OLD TAPE ADHESIVE ON MY LAW ENFORC SHIRT, THIS STUFF TOOK IT RIGHT OFF!!
Which stuff worked? It is a comparison test. I have same issue glue on sleeve.
@@Vancouverite1 GOO GONE
WD-40: Just take the canister and drop it on your workbench or even kick it around if you want.
Goo-Gone: Once opened it's gonna tip over sooner or later. It looks like they've designed the bottle to tip over, no matter what. It's so narrow and tall so it's gonna happen some time.
Smells great though...
This Goof Off smell like SHIT
Great video you wouldn't happen to know the name of that piano piece? Thanks, Dave
I've tried the WD40, the Goo Remover, some light abrassives, 90% alcohol, paint thinner, cooking oil and don't know what else. THE BEST RESULT was achieved with NAIL POLISH REMOVER. Several times faster and more efficient.
The only other question would be how harmful is it to the vehicle's paint surface.
@@backyardchevy328 It's not harmfull at all. Nitro thinner is the bad guy.
With WD-40 you really should allow it a few minutes to soak in, so that it has time to penetrate the adhesive. If you had have done, it would have come off much easier and quicker.
But will it work on fiberglass camper top?
That is a lot of work to remove the labels. It is very simple to remove them. All you have to do is use a good paper towel with alcohol. place the towel where the label is and let it soak the label. After a minute you can start rubbing the label.
Sorry, can't stay! The music ruined it for me!
What would u have preferred? No music? different music? Id appreciate the input for any future videos:)
WD-40 worked well with some pressure. Thanks.
Make a paste of baking soda and vegetable oil, best solution for sticker residue
Do you have any tips on removing the ugly dealership decal from my rear car window?
I don't know what it's made of or how they stuck it on but it's awful..
Cheap Nail polish remover worked with such ease it removed black tint window paint in my car with no effort at all no one in all the car mechanics on RUclips even suggest this simple solution
gasoline work?
thanks for showing me how not to apply or follow instuctions
With that much elbow grease I reckon washing up liquid would have given the same results.
Can I use WD40 to remove my tint glass glue
"Don't put stickers on your car. Know that they say I'm dumb" Daniel Tosh
Those stickers came with the car..thats why we wanted to remove em
Best adhesive remover= 91% or higher rubbing alcohol.
@@notyounever The more alcohol you use the easier it will clean. Won't affect paint, only the residue.
Big Texas Could I just use whiskey, and wait between rubbing while I sip a little? 😂
Thanks for taking the time to share!
Thank you for watching:)
I use cooking oil, butter or peanut butter. Let it sit for a day and wipe with warm soapy water. No need to rub and scrub.
Ill have to give that a try
Ya know what, I gotta know the track and composer's name. This is a different kind of swag. 🤣 Great vid.
Thank you so much, ill rewatch it in a while and let u know the songs, i havent seen it in over a year lol
Elite syncopations, darktown struttles ball...both by E's Jammy Jams
@@backyardchevy328 Neat, thanks so much man!
If you like this, check out Scott Joplin. It's where ragtime piano all started!
so which one is better ??? it seems both works but in different ways i think wd 40 is better but then again i never try goo gone is first time i hear of this product... ofc i live on an island maybe we not have it... but i got a concre cement wall which had a decorative panel and it neded to be removed and now i am stuck with the yuky yellow glue and i cant seem to be able to remove it... looking for options led me to this video but if anyone can offer any advice i welcome it its truly bothering me as i cant paint till i remove the dam glue... ty for the video i learn what goo gone is winks...♥ hello to all from Puerto Rico and send sunshine ur way ♥
Must admit tried WD 40 WORKS WELL . BUT WHITE SPIRIT BRUSH CLEANERS ALSO DOES A GOOD JOB 👍
Gasoline has never failed me and it is much cheaper. Just brush it on with a paintbrush and let it sit for about 30 seconds and scrape off with a plastic scraper.
Dude absolutely not
i got intense ocd watching him spraw with the straw.. like why? :( uuugg
the goo gone stuff worked. But you have to soak the sticker well.
"Don't have time for that". So do you have time to set the bleach bottle down cause it says "do not drink" or nah? I mean ot looks like water & you're thirsty.
Can I use those to the dashboard removing the glue? Thank you
Yes theyll work good on the dashboard as well..i do prefer to use the goo gone on dashboard instead though
@@backyardchevy328 Thank you!
If my buddy had to wear gloves for this, I’d never speak to him again.
What's wrong with clean hands? You hate having clean hands? Chicks don't like a dude's hands smelling like fumes. But maybe you're not into chicks. Maybe you're into dudes. Hey, buddy. That's cool.
@@DigitalBathInAZ I wouldn't do a guy with hands that smelled like fucking Goo Gone and WD-40 either.
1890’s saloon music doesn’t do justice to modern day videos, kinda reminded me a Laurel and hardy in a black & white skit.
Great video and nice comparison!
Thank you🙂 its not often i get a nice comment for this video..i really appreciate it🙂
I'm currently using goo gone and it works great.,mientras veo este video traigo en mi mano un goo gone ,a mí me funcionó bien.
Or you can do what i do. Take w towel of your choice and size, soak it in WD 40, place it on/over the residue, use masking tape ro hold it in place, after about 5-7 minutes, sometimes less, use a credit card, squeegee, i use a rubber spatula, and it will practically fall iff by itself. Just my opinion
Definitive results, WD40 plus half hour to soak in. Thank you, sir!
Yea that would be a great idea...thank you🙂👍
This doesn't mess up the paint?
theyre both supposed to be safe for paint
