That cover art, interior and exterior, is bad ass.
An immense band... America's greatest prog band.... one of my all time faves. Thanks for another great review.
Fantastic album! full of energy, terrific performance of this current line-up; overall one of my all-time favorite bands 🍺🤘
Good CD well done kansas, at Pete for reviewing
Thanks for that one.... was waiting for the SOT stamp of approval before pulling the trigger on this one.
Look forward to this cd arrival.
👍🎶🔥🤘
Sounds pretty awesome. Too bad it's not video/blu ray.
Thanks for these regular new album reviews, Pete. Definitely one to hear. Thanks again.
I saw Kansas for the first time a couple years ago. I was absolutely blown away! Awesome and amazing band!
Double Wow!! I love this Kansas ‘ Point of Know Return’ - Live & Beyond!! I have this CD and it sounds excellent !! I highly recommend this!! ***** Star rating!! Thank you for doing this review!!🎤🎸🎵🥁
My wife and me saw this tour In March of 2019 in Peoria, Illinois. What a great show. Of course I liked the classic songs, but the newer songs were good as well, especially Refugee.
I have this one on the way. Looking eagerly forward to putting on the headphones and immersing myself in the glory that is Kansas.
Love the cover!
Their most beautiful cover art ever!
Really cool!!
Outstanding review as always. Love this band for many years now and have seen every lineup throughout the years live and this one is stellar. Astute observation regarding the closing years of Walsh's involvement and how the set list from year to year was static with a carefully selected "deep cut" or two swapped out each year. Obviously, this was necessary as SW was struggling vocally, the years and years of singing his ass off 200 plus shows a year, not to mention some hard "rock star" living along the way, was catching up with him. Anyway, with Ronnie Platt they can now choose to play virtually any song they want in their catalogue. So, looking forward to seeing what happens as they get rolling again. Love all their live recordings "Two for the Show remastered version is sooooo killer good with a whole CD of unreleased live stuff they did not use on the original release", the lineup from "Power" and "In the Spirit of Things" King Biscuit Flower Hour and more recently Leftoverture live and Beyond and now PoKR live and beyond. Love em all!!! Thanks again for a great review.
They are going to be here in South Dakota in Sept. It will be worth seeing. Not during Sturgis Rally but in Deadwood at the Deadwood Mountain Grand Hotel.
Can't wait to see this show in November. Covid postponed. Definitely buying this disc.
Saw that tour. Very impressive 👏 I saw Kansas with Styx first time in the 1996 and several times since then.
I pre-ordered this instantly. Amazon tells me it's arriving on the 9th. Hurry up! :-)
I need that on vinyl.
Thanks for this. I can't wait to get that release!
Great live album! The band sounds great. I saw them at the Chatanooga show in January 2020. Ronnie sounds great if not a little nasily at times.
Got to check it out and get. Thanks Pete!
I’ve just been really getting into Kansas Pete!! The artwork & packing look amazing!!! I bought the download version!!
Who is Kansas Pete?! 😁
Thanks for the great review, Pete. I really enjoyed the last studio album and will be checking this release out too. Kansas are a band who do not get enough recognition in my book, criminally underrated and have a fantastic back catalogue. Would love to see them perform my favourite track "The Pinnacle' live in person one day.
Went to my local Newbury comics last Saturday after work and it's been playing consistently since then. Saw them on the POKR tour in 2018 (and a re rescheduled gig upcoming in Dec)and it was the best Kansas show I've ever attended (and I've seen them when Steve and Robby were still in the band). A fantastic setlist of deep cuts along with hits and the crown jewel POKR (hearing Closet Chronicles gave me chills) was why it was my favorite Kansas show. The newer members seen to reinvigorate Phil,Rich and Billy and they show no signs of slowing down which as a big fan makes me happy. This is a terrific release and essentially a companion to Leftoverture Live and Beyond
Got mine a couple of days ago. Love it, cant stop playing it, and its a fantastic companion to Leftoverture Live and Beyond with only 7 (no prizes for guessing which ones) of the 41 songs duplicated meaning we get 34 songs over 4 discs of Kansas in their current prime. Highly recommended.
Those are some great deep tracks!!! I've got my order in.
I own the Vinyl/CD Edition. It sounds fantastic, a great live Album. It's worth every Euro/Dollar/ Pound s.o.. But I think the live album from 2017 Leftoverture & beyond is a "micron" better.🇩🇪
Just slightly but you’re right. Or at least our ears agree.
Going to pick it up tomorrow
I always preferred Point of No Return to Leftoverture
Same Here
Agree but only barely edges out Masque and Leftoverture
Oh yeah
Love People of the southwind
The performances are superb and the sound mix exciting. I totally agree that the song selection is killer. I feel bad for folks who won't give recent Kansas the time of day - it's totally their loss.
Any possibility you might watch and review the DVD called Miracles out of Nowhere, about the early history of Kansas? That would be awesome.
I would have to say that 'Song for America', 'The Wall' & 'Miracles Out of Nowhere' really aren't deep cuts by the band. 'Cold Grey Morning', 'Taking in the View', 'Two Cents Worth' & 'Musicatto' to me would be more of a deep cut since they've hardly played those live and more songs like that would have been awesome on this album.
need this cd i was going to concert in 2020 until covid hit
that’s crazy about Zak leaving...he co-wrote most of the last album
Plot twist. Kerry rejoins
That will not happen, anyway he did in 2000 didn't last long
Does anyone know why Zak left the band? He was a great addition.
Through the 80s & beyond, their setlist was pretty much the same because Steve's voice had deteriorated so badly he couldn't sing many of the great deep cuts any longer. Btw, Kerry Livgren wrote Cold Gray Morning and performed it on one of his solo albums. Then Kansas played it on one of their albums after Kerry had left the band.
Is that a Prs in the background?
Does it have lyrics ?
I just love Ronnie being in the band. I became a fan pretty much immediately.
3,000 COVID deaths in the last week in the US bringing the total to nearly 600,000. The pandemic is not "coming to an end". Poor choice of words. The vaccinations are slowing it but 3,000 a week is still a heartbreaking number.
How many original members left?
2, Guitarist Rich Williams and drummer Phil Ehart
My fave drummer of all time.
Current lineup took me out. What I really need is a live Kansas dvd blu ray from a 70s concert. I have the live DVD from early 2000s. Really good but I want the whole Kansas.
@@neuropete1 100% right. I do have that Two For.... lp but I want more! Ha
Woof! The music has been great since Platt came on, but the artwork is horrible. This disc is awesome, though.
