Steve in his prime was a monster rocker, masterful musician and handstands in the midst of organ solos - no one else was like him.

Steve Walsh was always critical of Native American Casinos because the money rarely went to the tribes, but cool to see him here. Still sounds good, it's not always easy especially when you get older.

Steve should have retired long ago. At one time, he was certainly one of the most talented vocalists to have ever graced a stage. He was also quite an accomplished keyboard player. I was fortunate enough to have seen Kansas on at least 10 occasions. Steve was always very active on stage, but near the end of days for the original Kansas, he was especially crazy on stage, do all kinds of acrobatics, handstands on the keyboards, running in place, etc. I was always amazed how he could be jumping around, while at the same time doing a great job of both singing and playing. I certainly miss Steve in Kansas, but his retirement was truly for the best. Thanks for all the entertainment over the years, Steve.

Singers aged and we have no control of that, Steve was one of the best rock singers of all time in my opinion just like other singers such as Robert Plant, Steve Perry, Lou Gramm and many others , in Kansas song Dust in the wind , nothing last forever but the earth and sky....

Retiring was the best decision Steve made. Years of constant touring, age and drug abuse really took a toll on one of the best voices of all time. I'm very surprised that he survived as long as he did after they laid down Somewhere to Elsewhere. His vocals were starting to go right around that time.

    • @paulm4433

I was front row for this, had seen Kansas twice before Christmas with new cast, and got to meet the band, so I jumped at the chance to catch Steve on stage, as I had not seen him since 74 or 75. Still amazes me, his Kansas career days he was an incredible vocalist, andstill hard for me to reconcile that powerhouse voice with the man. Of course time tkes it's toll, he bowed out gracefully to do his own thing, would never judge him for his decisions...i was only disappopinted that he was nearly and hour late for the meet and greet, and it was a total rush job when it did occur, snap a photo and out, the photos were terrible low rez. many ticket holders had left by time the music started, probably back to the casino floor, but my ticket was meet and greet and front row, so i stayed, and it was a great show. he was late for his set as well, and it just made me appreciate the new kansas guys, Ronnie Platt, lead vocal and keyboard,, and David Manion on the keyboards. they have huge shoes to fill and have done quite a job. Kansas has new energy, they are cutting new records with new material, and touring their asses off. i saw them 40 time in the next 19 months, all over the country, and i am pleased every time. that music is worthy of symphony status, and these guys love to play live.ve was damn, and his voice still gives me shivers, but i would recommend taking a listen to Kansas 2018, for the 40th anniversary Point of know return tour, i think you'll be pleasantly entertained.
    Carry on

I've always liked Kansas. Like anyone Steve could be nice and other times, well, let's just say that I once ran into him at a grocery store, I asked him if his name was Steve as a courtesy but he strongly denied it - I just apologized, "sorry man, had you confused with someone else" and walked away. No big deal, he might have been tired of people asking him questions. This was shortly before he left Kansas. The first time I met him was In the late 70s - he complimented me on the Cheap Trick shirt I was wearing and was happy to talk about the new car he was driving. He was also a big Paul Rogers fan. He would also show up at some rock clubs in Atlanta (MacGruders), Robbie would show up at CW Shaws and play the then new "asteroids" video game. In the early 80s I met Rich Williams in a liquor store on Stewart Avenue in South Atlanta - just saw him shopping for some gin and said, "Rich Williams". He was genuinely pleased that he had been recognized - had a really big grin on his face. He went on to tell me they were recording and rehearsing at the then under-utilized Atlanta Fair grounds (which is now heavily used for movie productions). Didn't meet the other guys but always loved the band. My favorite Kansas song has always been Icarus. Check out the version here on RUclips from their Don Kirshner set.

Didn't know he still toured, without a doubt he is my favorite vocalist. Just saw Kansas in Milwaukee last July one of the best performances of theirs, unfortunately there was an obnoxious drunk couple behind me and they were louder than Kansas. The new singer for Kansas is so far the closest to Steve Walsh, but no one will ever replace him.

Darn, I hate to almost say it, but that was a bit painful to watch. I mean, after seeing Steve play his Hammond like no other, jumping around the stage like a madman and doing handstands on his keyboards, I just can't imagine what's going through his head. Yes, it was nice seeing him sing like that and if others enjoyed watching him, so be it. It was worth it. But, I loved him in his prime as he was incredible!!!!
