great info well paced. I played with deer hair but, now feel more confide to tie up some frogs and divers. Your passion and knowledge shines though in your videos! Thanks you
This is probably some of the best info out there in regard to spinning and trimming deer. These instructions would take forever for most people to figure out or piece together on their own. Most traditional hair spinning instructions really fall short and tyers are left wondering why their flies look and fish like crap.
Thanks again for your time and help 🎣🤠. A ton of good info. All's good with this video. The tips will help me slot. Good health for you and your's 🎣🤠 Dave Hughes.
just starting flyfishing and fly making . live in the midwest so was woundering if the flys you been making here will work for walleye and northern.? I would do different colors though maybe black and white maybe. what do you think ? good videos learning alot I just herd you say musky ,pike so you answered my question . I guess i shoould watch the whole thing befor i comment.
Late to the game, but would you mind recommending your favorite 300 and 200 sinking lines? Best series I have seen on RUclips yet. Keep up the fantastic work brother!
Thanks man. Using Dr. Slick 4.5" Hair Scissors. The trick to GSP is not to cut it, but to partially close your scissors and push them forward into the thread while applying pressure on the thread. Should cut like butter.
Gunnar Brammer Thanks for the info. I have a pair of Temico Razor TC scissors that do the job quite admirably but very expensive. I'll have a look at Dr Slick. I'd highly recommended their curved hair scissors.
Gunnar Brammer why not put a little bright red glister dubbing etc in that ‘space’ between the collar and the body. In my Cougars, at least, I always end up with a good eight of an inch gap/space between body and collar. A perfect spot to put in a touch of colour to suggest blood/gills and provide an extra trigger when viewed from underneath.
I haven't watched your other deer hair vid, but something I'm curious about is your thoughts on belly vs body hair. Here you used body for the collar, top of the first fly, and all of the second. Is that a rule to you? Could the same be done with belly hair? Thanks!
The only reason I used belly hair for the bottom of the bug is because you can't get white body hair in the primo strips....Personally I almost only use Body hair as I find it easier to find in better quality. Belly hair is more often shorter than I like, and typically has severe cowlicks which make is really poor for Collars and will cause your fly to spin.
Hey Rory, the first fly featuring KG's Zoo Cougar head is my Skinny-Dipper which has a tutorial on my channel, posted almost a year ago now. The second fly is simply an Arctic fox winged variation of my Hot Fuzz which is a more recent upload. If you still have questions feel free to send em over. Best of luck!
hey Gunnar, i think you said in this vid that you're gonna use sinking fly line to throw these flies. what type of fly line would you use? im currently in the market for new sinking line
I am a big fan of Airflo's Kelly Galloup series lines, the Streamer Max Long with the full 30ft. sinking head. Really awesome lines! I fish a full sink regardless, but you may also like the Streamer Max Short for wade fishing so you don't have line sinking at your feet all the time.
This is the best 41 minutes I've spent on RUclips for fly tying content. Thank you.
So many gold nuggets man… appreciate your videos and the effort you put into them.
Great mind, great work! Enjoyed many of your stuff! Congrat to the skills and thanks for sharing them! Cheers, D.
Gunnar you have top shelf videos and know how. You are the real deal!

So much info that everyone else leaves out.
Thank you!
I will be using a lot of your vids this tying season. Really appreciate the thorough explanations here.
Thanks for putting in the time and effort sharing your knowledge in this series.

Hey Aa-ron, thanks man, I really appreciate it. I run the Airflo Kelly Galloup Streamer Max long - has been my favorite thus far!
Gunnar Brammer sweet deal man. Will have to give them a go this month. Thanks for the info!
Again, another fantastic lesson. Wonderful work Sir. May I ask what scissors you are using /recommend for cutting GSP? They look like Dr.Slick?
