after feeling extremely overwhelmed by trying to get into fly tying multiples times and failing this series finally helped me stick with it and be confident in my flies
Gunner..... Have just binge watched all your "Tie Like a Pro" series vids and all I can say is CONGRATULATIONS. A bloody great series and super informative. I learnt more watching these vids than just about any others I have watched regarding the overall concepts and design principles behind fly tying. Keep up the great work Buddy I'm a big fan.
Thx for being WHO you are ! Every single part of this series is superb ! Totally awesome ! I have learned a whole lot. And the best thing is that you can watch it over and over again... super ! Thx for sharing !!!!
I do like the way you think young man. You have a beautiful gift for teaching. This series you are doing or have done by the time I'm writing this comment is really solid and I will be reccomending them to everyone I have worked with in the past. Keep up the great work. May you be a blessing, Bruce L.
Gunnar, I made it this far through your series without comments, but must say this series is another level above most of what is out there. I am along time KG disciple and have enjoyed his new stuff this year immensely, but this is another step forward. Your focus on technique first (yes the double thread bump is masterful) and then to resolve it down into a simply theory that is infinitely expansive and actionable is simply exquisite. Very well done young man, you have absorbed the teaching of all previous masters, started generating original thinking early and I think watching you, we are witnessing a real life master in the making!
After watching many tutorial videos in this series and your custom fly pattern videos I can definitely tell you have an absolute PASSION for Teaching others about what you are most passionate about and that is fantastic. Knowledge from experience and study is meant to be shared. As far as this principle I worked in or around a fly shop for 10 years at Cabela's and the veterans there pretty much said that there are no new patterns, just variations of patterns that have been around awhile using different materials depending on what one intends to use that fly for. Way to break it down properly into PARTS of a fly that one can just rinse and repeat and just change one thing or make material substitutions, definitely can't go wrong with an articulated bugger.
Thanks so much Gunnar for this series of videos. I believe I have learned more about streamer patterns watching these videos than I have in the last 15 years. You have really opened my mind to a lot of different concept or principles that are the basic foundation behind tying streamers. You have provided us with the WHY and not just the HOW. Now I think it is time to watch them again and make my own notes.
The analogy to sentence structure is genius and helps me relate! Your enthusiasm is terrific and adds to the videos. Appreciate the precise explanation of the physics involved in getting what I need out of a pattern. Thankyou!
I appreciate your passion. You are a good teacher. I've learned enough to be dangerous! The techniques I have because of you, and others, have allowed me to develop a few designs for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and inlines which I've begun to sell on a word of mouth basis. I am stoked! Next: Logo, cards and packaging. Let's do this! Thank you sir!
10+ years of dry fly/nymph fishing with only 1 fish over 20 vs a few months of streamer fishing...I owe it to you! You changed my entire view of streamer fishing and understanding trout behavior. I recommend your videos, especially Tie Like a Pro series, to every tier I know.
BIG fan of these episodes. Could you give me a quick explanation on how rubber legs offer benefit to the fly or when they may detriment? I feel like I struggle with the bigger is better vs less is more mindsets.
Excellent, although I will have to watch this about a dozen ties to get the concept down. Like others I tend to be a recipe tyer but am trying to get the next level.
Hey Gunnar, I'm really enjoying this series! BTW, Picked up Fleye Design as you suggested - awesome book!!! Just watched a Davie Mcphail tube-fly video, you might be interested in checking out his bucktail tying technique, its pretty cool the way he controls the fibers. ruclips.net/video/BiNn761nzbU/видео.html Hank

I've got 3 fish over 20 in just 3 months of fishing after watching your videos and tying better streamers. Can't thank you enough!
That's crazy awesome to hear Pat! Love it man!

So clearly explaned Gunnar. Thnx
This is such a good video, so much info and so many tips in one video. You know what’s up!! Cheers
Totally awesome video Gunnar!!!
Great, informative video. Thanks Gunnar!
Have you every try to place the main weight of the fly on the trail hook? Meaning adding led to the back hook and no weight to the front hook.
BIG fan of these episodes. Could you give me a quick explanation on how rubber legs offer benefit to the fly or when they may detriment? I feel like I struggle with the bigger is better vs less is more mindsets.
Thank you for the information I really enjoy the learning not so much the names on some of the flies but the info is excellent.
Great vid & congrats!
Thanks man great information as usual
Mind=blown! Thanks, man.

Hello,
We are basically crappie and bass fishing folks around here. What infinite fly ideas do you have for these 2?
Thanks!
Great info, thanks!
I don't want to nag BUT... seriously dude, when is the new video coming out? :) A big hello from slovenia
Very interessting!
The caffeine is good for you Bro. Six cups.
Can you do a video on squirmy worms and mop flies? JUST KIDDING.
Hey Kevin, Don't kid about the mop flies - caught a pile of smallmouth bass on them last summer!! :-)
Just say no to mop flies (and carp). Guy has to draw the line somewhere :-)
