I love how he travels to find a picture, only to find his true inner self along the way. The picture he eventually finds is, of course, of him. This was a wonderful film. I think I love the scene of the longboard ride the most.

Yeah, I love how it transpires, that his friend loved the simple things, from his friends life, yet the guy envied his friend, even though, the photographer took time to value the simple things like piano and clementine cake. Then, he honoured his friend, and his work in a wonderful way. Lovely movie about workfriendship and our own journeys 🥰

My favorit scene is when he is in the pub and the helicopter starts because this is the moment when he makes the choice that will change his whole life.

My favourite scene is where he gathers the courage and takes the leap on to the helicopter. Everything changes after that.

That's the story of Man (not human beings which are temporary units rather than eternal beings). MAN, is/are a probe sent by the universe that allows the universe to become aware of itself. While the cosmic traveler has found itself trapped in a little blue planet within the boundaries of the physical self (a picture of itself), it won't be long before it shakes itself off to freedom... which freedom you may ask? I will let Don Juan Matus, through the books of Carlos Castaneda, answer that:
“To seek freedom is the only driving force I know. Freedom to fly off into that infinity out there. Freedom to dissolve; to lift off; to be like the flame of a candle, which, in spite of being up against the light of a billion stars, remains intact, because it never pretended to be more than what it is: a mere candle.”

I just want to say this movie changed my way of seeing things. I'm just like Walter, i have a common job and i used to daydream all the time. About my life, about me being a perfect person. A better version of me. After i saw the movie i felt inspired. Not to travel around the world but to LIVE. No matter what i do for a living, not matter where i live or my economic status. I'm trying to enjoy every little thing in life. I have decided, i'll spend more time in the moment i'm living. I'll do my best, i'll achieve my dreams. And i'll use my imagination in something i've always wanted to do. Writing.

I sincerely feel, and believe that "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty" is a masterpiece. My own reaction stunned me when I first watched it, as I never expected something so profound, something so life affirming to be found within a Ben Stiller film. The people I know are always beyond taken aback when I state this. They had always taken a pass on this film, after seemingly always having nearly watched it. This film is the red pill (or rather the red car) that people need to see. I felt as though this film has breathed beauty, curiousity, as well as new courage into my soul.

@@mesadepalo Thank you so much for your reply - as I forgot I'd written this until you did! I think this movie does something to the souls of the creative and the adventurous. It resonates with us deeply and also whispers to us that "It truly is never too late...begin planning, that can take the time it needs. But when you have enough of a plan - add courage to that cocktail."
I suffered a traumatic brain injury as the result of an assault a few years ago. I'm still trying to get my life back together since, but I am now at a stage where it looks quite clear that I am getting very close.
No matter what you've gone through - please believe me that it truly is never too late. Stories like this one definitely helped keep my hope alive though.
I watched this film so often during 2021 & 2022. I'm well on my way to getting my novel finished now, and I've been working on it for seven years. I've also recently made a strong attempt to return to my profession : acting (in particular Voice acting etc.) We'll see how that goes.
Plans, actions and relentlessness. They're all you need. Oh, and a little belief. Stories like "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty" can help you with that. 💚

I don't think it was lack of confidence. When he was young he wanted to see the world and do all these amazing things, he chose not to so he could take care of his family after his father's death. For me, the story is about him realizing he no longer has to carry all that weight and can rekindle that passion. But he was always somebody, and somebody amazing at that. That's why the photographer chose him as the final image for the magazine cover. Not the rock star explorer Walter, but the everyday Walter that was just doing his job.

    A powerful, powerful film.
No, it's not perfect. Yes, it has flaws. But what a powerful message! We're all Walter Mitty-so much exploration and adventure is out there for us if we just take the leap off the edge. Everyone should see this movie. Great soundtrack, stunning landscapes, amazing cinematography, and above all an immensely powerful message.

i cried every time i watched this video. i’m a film student who are scared of people around me who are way more experienced. i remember the first day i was in a film class i almost shit my pants thinking how other people may judge my work. then i watched this wonderful film, it gave me confidence to actually go out and be brave. i did my first project and everyone loved it. the most amazing part is that my first project is based on this film!

This movie was what inspired me, it told me that even "that guy" could do anything. Since then I've been on 5 continents and lived in places most will only dream of.
Edit- i want to thank everyone who has commented and thumbed. My name is Kent Stone and in 2008 I was diagnosed with a spinal thing leading on this crazy adventure. Recently I've had to incorporate a wheelchair into my travels but my adventure is still going. This winter i am hoping to learn snow skiing at the disabled ski school outside Denver.

    [Verse 1]
Jumping up and down the floor
    My head, is an animal
And once there was an animal
It had a son that mowed the lawn
The son was an okay guy
    They had a pet dragonfly
    The dragonfly, it ran away
But it came back with a story to say
    [Verse 2]
Her dirty paws and furry coat
She ran down the forest slopes
    The forest of talking trees
They used to sing about the birds and the bees
The bees had declared a war
The sky wasn't big enough for them all
The birds, they got help from below
From dirty paws and the creatures of snow
    [Refrain]
    La la la
    La la la, la
    La la la
    La la la, la
    [Instrumental]
    [Verse 3]
So for a while, things were cold
They were scared down in their holes
The forest that once was green
Was colored black by those killing machines
But she and her furry friends
Took down the queen bee and her men
And that's how the story goes
The story of the beast with those four dirty paws
    [Refrain]
    La la la
    La la la, la
    La la la
    La la la, la
    [Refrain]
    La la la
    La la la, la
    La la la
    La la la, la

when I was a kid growing up in the country in Virginia I was allowed to leave the house in the mourning after breakfast and as long as I made it home before dinner I could go wherever my legs would take me. my friends and I used to explore the woods, go out on the lake in a John boat, walk down the train tracks to the bridge and jump off. we used to walk into the next county, and we were no more than 12 years old. now finally my kids are old enough to go out bike riding and exploring but in this day and age I can't let them go off by themselves. so I have been going out with them and watching them discover how much fun it is to explore makes me feel it again. luckily we're only a couple hours from the Blue Ridge Mountains which has some great hikes.

+syates2346 Lucky duck dude, I live in India and lets just say it's not that easy finding adventure or time when you're up to the neck with school....That being said I take an hour a day to explore and document the world around me, it's insane how much a few kilometers of walking through a jungle, or a few stories of walking up to a roof, can give you....sure it's risky, but that's half of the fun.....man nothing beats getting chased by a stray dog down a big hill.....it's times like those which I love so much....

+epiclapser sounds awesome! don't lose the spirit. how likely are you to run into a tiger or some monkeys where you live in India? that would be a little more dangerous than I can get into around here. I've been all over the western hemisphere but haven't been east yet.

      @epiclapser 8 лет назад +2

I won't :) Not very likely....monkeys though I've been chased by one lol while on a family trip monkeys are everywhere tigers are hard to come by....what's dangerous where I hike and stuff is the people, like you could get mugged and stuff.....the west is suuper cool, I've been everywhere in the states, because I lived there for a long time....the east is just another world however lol the culture especially.....

Japan, Germany, Australia, The UK, Philippines, Iceland, Greenland and many more. The only regret I have is not having a digital camera LOL but they where $350 to $500 bucks back then, and I never saved any money :) I think I only made $570 to $600 a month basic pay before tax's and around $150 a month in flight pay. I go into the comment section. And I see all these people talking about how this movie inspired them to go to new places, and explore life. It makes me think about how I always say that I *want* to do something, but I can never bring myself to actually doing anything. Everyone else had the guts to notice something was wrong with their life, and changed what was wrong. But I still lay in my bed with my laptop, feeling conflicted, yet still doing nothing about it. I'm just a waste of space. So I feel like telling anyone that's reading this comment to go outside and do something. Don't be afraid to try something new, or else you'll be a coward like me; too afraid of change to change for the better.

Oftentimes I feel so much disappointment in myself for not following through with the goals I set out. It makes me feel anxious that I am missing out on precious time. Getting away doesn’t always mean going out and exploring the world and new places. Just simply day dreaming, creative thinking, also is a get away. I, myself, tend to think back to when I wanted to backpack across Canada. I was getting all my stuff ready, ordering a backpack and a little single tent and all the works. In the middle of this all I met a girl that changed my life forever. She is now my fiancé and we have 2 amazing kids together. We’ve been together for 5 years now. Couldn’t imagine my self without her, but from time to time I think about what it would of been like if I did go backpacking. I am now a photographer in the works and I produce music. I work facilities over at a clothing shop and I actually enjoy it there. My life changed, and I love the life I have more then ever, but some day I will go backpacking haha.
You don’t need to go and travel to have an amazing life, you don’t need money to have an amazing life that everybody wants. An amazing life can just come from the simplest things.
I’ve been told once before, if you have a good life, then why do you still need to go on vacations?

    • @bbysprite6044

The trick is to start small. Some people can't jump I to the world with both feet because they are apprehensive of what might happen and that is totally fine. I want to go backpacking in some of the most remote places I can find. Norway, Iceland, Russia etc. I want to build I life were I will have the freedom of being able to experience so many things but I can't fly to Norway today because I don't have the cash on me and because I am doing other things. I thought that I needed to go far away to get the peace of mind I have been craving but I don't. Yesterday I got back from hiking part of the Pacific crest trail and it was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. I saw so many beautiful things and learned so much. As I was hiking along a steep drop off and the whole mountain was covered in mist I remember thinking to myself " this is the life that I always wanted" i realised that I was still thinking that I wasn't in some exotic place even though I was. The entire trip cost less then 200 bucks and I only had to drive 20 miles.

I live in a pretty nice and small community of around like 10,000 people so a lot of people know eachother here so we're all really tight knit through athletics and stuff so it's pretty safe to just walk around like your not gonna really get kidnapped or anything so this movie inspired me to pack a hiking bag together and just walk the 15 mile bike path all through the woods and just enjoy nature. I'm literally never inside the house anymore. I do my chores like cut the grass help fix stuff around the house, and when that's all done I just take off by myself or with friends and just adventure around. All this because of this movie. I'm considering taking a trip to Iceland and hike that. I'm so glad I watched this.

The birds, they got help from below,
From dirty paws and the creatures of snow.
And for a while things were cold,
They were scared down in their holes.
The forest that once was green
Was colored black by those killing machines.
But she and her furry friends
Took down the queen bee and her men.
And that's how the story goes,
The story of the beast with those four dirty paws

I watched this movie when I was 12/13. I was shy and wanted to be invisible. This movie means so much to me. I'm now, more confident but try everything at least once instead of not trying at all. Life is not about fitting into the mold, its about exploring the unknown and take what it gives. Firstly, I'm going to finish my education then travel the world. I have dreams and we should all, chase them.

This movie has a special place in my heart, this is the movie I never tell anybody about because it is a treasure that you'll have to stumble on like how the best things in life is. I watch it on every birthday I have, and I played this song and the entire soundtrack while driving to catch a glimpse of the northen lights. There is no word that would describe the similarities between me and Walter, I see the path and the end of it I turn like Walt where you are sucked into the matrix and having to bare this dystopian hell we live in. However, I do see the light at the end of tunnel where I break free just like Walt. I hope I'd reach there soon. My greatest appreciation to everyone who made this movie happen because it is a great message that many won't get to hear because it is not for everyone, that is how special things are.
Good luck and I will see at the finish line.

I love that this movie has a low score from critics. It perfectly fits the theme of Walter's life and proves the merit of doing things despite what critics, your boss, or anyone else might tell you.

The Reason why I love this Film so much is, that it inspires me so much in many different ways. I love to see how he’s just bored and annoyed by his work and the people that are around him. Then when he decides to set himself a goal, he starts getting a more positive person and life. I’m 17 years old and there are moments where I stress myself so much with things that are unnecessary. My goal for the future is to just enjoy life more and to be more relaxed even if there are negative situations. I think this helps you a lot in life.

I havent spended much with my dad, i met him when i was 13 (im 17 now), he didnt abandon me or anythinb similar, he spen all that time working, missin 40 something years of his life, to bring my 3 older brothers and me now the best life he can, even after the hospital he worked at fired him he started to be a taximan so he could still mantain me and my mother. I may not know him and he may not know me as one could expect from a son or father, but i still appreciate everything he has done and sacrificed. This movie when it premiered my dad took me to cinemas to watch it, is one of the few memories i have of sharing a moment with him. And after we went out of the cinema he told me to not do what he did, to not waste my time in a work i didnt like, but do things before is to late and age caughts up to me. This movie deserves way more love and appreciation for teaching us to live our lives, have and adventure, do something more than just an office job.

It's not about what we become, nor is it about the people we impact.
It'll never be about how the world once knew us or saw us, it's about how we value ourselves...
It's much harder to commit or to love when you don't know how to Love anything, so you have to start with one place: yourself.
Our value, self worth should never be extrinsically based, our value will never be worth everything or captured in someone else's eyes. The meaning of life lies within ourselves and its essence is something we choose to carry.
The Road we walk on, the path we carry through, the mist between us that is in our way, whether by ourselves, or with others that walk is A True Journey to self-discovery.

I was in high school when this movie released, I remember watching a trailer for it as an ad on RUclips and honestly I fell in love with the premise. After things happened to be nearing the end of my high school days; this movie was my comfort. The music in it was amazing such as monsters and men as José Gonzalez and the movie itself showed e what I can do with my life if I believed in myself and the potential the world can hold. I truly want to travel someday. To enjoy the simplicity of life. To learn new things. To say I’ve experienced a thoughtful and wonderful life. I’m only 20 and I still have a long journey ahead of me and I will not deny this movie has inspired me.
