This movie is criminally underrated in my opinion. It’s positive, whimsical and thoroughly enjoyable. Critics are too harsh on ambitious projects sometimes.
It wasn’t “in-your-face/action’y” enough for a faster paced movie for them, and it wasn’t political and controversial enough of a slow movie for them. Critics never appreciate a gem when ones made and only appreciates several years later.
Critics are like the old-timers at your workplace. They'll find the slightest oversight and expand it into some cardinal sin, so that they appear "insightful" and "know better than you". Critics wanna sound smart, like they have high standards, and have something useful to add.
Unless it's a popular film like the Avengers, in which case they don't want the public to denounce them.

I love this film so much. Mitty's character hits me on a personal level. Being an Introvert and not able to express my thoughts comfortably, having a literal alternate reality where I own the world, this movie is under appreciated
This movie is a total gem. I love the character. the scenery, the adventure ! Took my eldest boy to see it when it came out - he was about 15 I think. i thought he might think it was a bit lame but he loved it. And now my 7 year old just got to know it - he loves it too !

This was the very first time I ever saw downhill longboarding and since this movie I've gone through my first 4 boards, rode down the internationally famous Maryhill Loops Road, and hit speeds upwards of 40mph. Thanks Secret Life Of Walter Mitty for exposing me

The cinematography in this movie is impeccable.....just wow at some of the Iceland, Greenland scenes
Even stuff inside of buildings or New York pulls off that great cinematography. The film is wonderfully shot.

I went to Iceland a few years ago, and one of our tour guides one day said that during the summer season, he’ll see tourists long boarding on their steeper roads because of “the film Water Mitty, which was filmed HERE in Iceland!”

The point of the movie is the literal opposite , he lives his life at last.
Overlooked fact: This is actually Ben Stiller doing the run. He grew up skateboarding, and while he was wearing a safety wire in some hairpin shots, this is legit him, not a stuntman. That was also him teaching the kid to flip his board in the earlier park scene.
What seriously? But I read somewhere that Rodney Mullen The Godfather of street skating acted as a stunt double for Ben Stiller in the central Park scene!
they had stuntman and mullen. stiller is trash on a real skateboard. longboard riding is foogin easy when you go 5 mph..... hollywood is fake 🥸

There’s something so freeing about this scene. It’s like watching a bird fly or a horse run across the meadows. Just liberating.
That was a beautiful scene. If they dragged it out for 5 or 10 minutes of him longboarding down that winding road, I would have loved it.
An extended scene, running the full length of the song, wouldve made for a perfect song video.
I think they wanted it to feel impressive but not unbelievable. The ties on his hand would tear off, and walter isn't an athlete.
@@Vanlifecrisis yeah, but didn't they imply he had been an excellent skateboarder earlier in the film? I really enjoy this scene, but it feels like a missed opportunity. As is, it is a bit too straightforward, there should have been a bit of doubt, him overcoming it and then getting into him cruising and remembering that he has innate and impressive (albeit niche) skills that most don't have.
Easily Ben Stillers best work, funny, engaging, great story, will be considered a masterpiece and cult classic in a few years

This film kind of saved my life. I had a similar case with Walter where I would imagine scenarios in my head so much that I got tired of living my actual life.
I broke down when Space Oddity played in one of the scenes and the realization hit me like a truck.

It's a hidden gem and it's better that way. It didnt do well in the theatres cause it's not a pop corn flick
It's interesting when you look back at various points of your life and at almost every juncture, for me at least, there is a movie that perfectly encapsulates your state of mind in almost every way. It isn't just a good movie anymore. It's ingrained into your presence that can never be erased. I wasn't in a good place when Walter Mitty came out, but I'll never forget how it made me feel like I wasn't alone. Transcendent.
I really agree. Just a few days ago, remembered the scene where he chose not to photograph the snow leopard. Didn’t remember the name of the movie. But that scene has impacted my way of thinking ever since

The most underrated film of all time and this very scene is the reason why I traveled to Iceland! I'm only 22 and already fulfilled my number one thing on my bucket list so whoever is reading this who hasn't travelled before, if a chump like me can travel then you can too!

First thing for your journey is pack light and whatever clothes you bring, make sure they are waterproof because I got completely soaked out there and regretted not buying waterproof clothing.
Second I rented an Airbnb before arriving so I recommend renting a place now and if you do rent a place, rent a hostel so you can meet other travelers and make friends if you want.
Third I recommend going to the Blue Lagoon, it's a hot springs and is very soothing and relaxing, only complaint is there's a lot of tourists.
Fourth The Black Sand Beach is seriously out of this world so that would be my main destination to go and I sadly didn't visit the locations of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, but I recommend looking into those locations if you want to visit.
Fifth I reccomend going to the main city of Reykjavik for a night or two if you are looking for fun in the city, a lot of bars and activities going on.
Last but not least, don't worry about taking photos or posting on social media because you shouldn't have the distraction of the camera to witness the beauty of Iceland with your own eyes.

Was in my HQ which is next to Smáralind during summer last year. Reykjavík is stunning by its own, and Kópavagur has its own beautiful charm 🙂

very underrated movie. ben stiller did an amazing job in front as well as behind the camera. one of my favourite movies of all time.
I remember watching this movie when i was young and somewhat i always come back to it and after watching this, it feels like im taking a fresh breath of air. This is handsdown one of my fav movie of all time.
i remembered watching this back when it first came out on theatres and finding it ridiculously weird. i didn't understand how cheryl somehow appeared in greenland so subtly without any indications from before and the imagination scenes completely baffled me and made no sense whatsoever. granted i was still 9 at the time and didn't get the big message and visuals the movie was trying to present, but this scene somehow always stuck to me even after all these years.
so glad i decided to rewatch it after all these years. now it's up there on the list of movies i'll be rewatching over and over nonstop for the next week

I’ve been downhill skateboarding since 2013. After a bad fall at around 45 miles per hour in 2016, I stopped - I focused on the multitude of other priorities in my life (including varsity cross country running, which happens to not mix kindly with high-speed skateboard crashes) and I seldom picked up my board for over four years. About six months ago, that changed. I’ve been skating every day again, and I’m better than ever. I’ve never felt more liberated than I do now, throwing massive slides and sticking tight lines around fast hairpin corners. It may sound ridiculous, but my skateboard has been there when I need it most - it’s one of the only things keeping me afloat in these trying times. The thing is, I never would have picked up a board in the first place if it weren’t for this scene. Say what you will about the movie. But this scene changed my life.

Newbie question, what if there’s a hump or a small pothole on the downhill road? Will he get wiped out? Or can he just go around it?
@@joonotfins we can go around it most of the time, but if we see it too late we just hit the bump/pothole and hope for the best lol. We can also hit rocks and be ok for the most part, which most people don’t realize.

I loved this movie, watched the trailer over and over and over again, watched the movie, and then screamed "YES!" when my teacher said we were gonna be watching it back in high school. I feel Walter on a whole different level. Maldaptive daydreaming has become my crutch
This movie is insanely great and inspiring across the board. Its been 10 years since its been released and I think its criminal I am just now watching it. Soundtrack is also pristine.

This movie inspired me to travel. I left New Zealand with no money and ended up traveling the world on a super yacht. Sometimes I come back to this clip of the movie to remind me of how far I've come. Sometimes you just need to leave the pub and jump in a helicopter 😂

Just because it appeared in the list of movies from Prime and it kept sneaking in ... so I was "oookaaaaay, let's give this one a shot" ... I can safely state that this is my new comfort movie ... I was 8 when I first watched this movie, now I’m almost 18. This movie changed the way I thought about everything.
word. and now that I got to see Iceland I am enjoying this film more than ever. but I realized another reason I deeply value this film so much is that it is also about the end of an truly amazing era - the incredible story of LIFE the magazine. every cover that passes by our eyes fills me with nostalgia and history and appreciation. it's a much deeper story than it got credit for being. it just keeps getting more dear and more meaningful to me. hats off to Mr. Stiller!

I was born and raised in Florida and I didnt know they had hills. If you want hills, go west! I moved to Colorado 20 years ago. Go to Colorado, California, Oregon or damn near anything west of eastern Colorado.

Love this movie! Watch it once or twice a year, whenever I need confidence and braveness.
This movie is CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED and in 2019, still, is my top-5 movies, ever! I don't care how "cinema" looks at it, but very few films have EVER make me FEEL this way! At the end, that's why you watch movies, to FEEL something, and with an amazing soundtracks and incredible views, this movie does it all!

I have abused drugs for i long time and i'm really tired of it and this country will definitly make me sober and high on life
I always thought of Sweden as a place to go to get some peace and harmony... Really I think it's perspective, moving somewhere nice won't change you, change yourself then move so you can enjoy the beautiful country to its fullest extent

This exact road is the downslope from Haifoss to Seydisfjordur, East Iceland. Beautiful trip and I highly recommend it.
