People talk about 'The Wire', 'The Sapranos', 'Breaking Bad' being classics, and rightly so, of course. But as good as they are and as much as I admire them, personally, for me, 'Mr Inbetween' pips them at the post. It's an absolutely perfect masterpiece.

This show was genius in the phenomenally light touch with which it portrayed how Ray was motivated throughout by his yearning for love. He’s always eating out at Asian restaurants in a hat-tip to his divorced wife. His brother, his daughter, his dog. That Polaroid of the dead Zoe you see for second, in the sun visor of his taxi cab… when he bumped into his ex who was now pregnant it was just brutal!

No human exists with this kind of contrasting personalities geez you fool. It’s fantastical acting ! Not possibly any real person could be,you probably think tony soprano could be an existing person. True killers are dead eyed psychopaths that never function in society, except cartels! They die quickly and their relationships are with prostitutes and drug dealers.

I've always found it hard to get anyone I recommend
Mr Inbetween to actually watch it. The couple of people who I did persuade have actually thanked me for it and now rate it as highly as I did in my recommendation to them.

Saw it and loved it two years ago, I originally saw the first couple of eps when it was first shown and I thought meh. I revisited it a year or so later and was hooked. Getting it on disc at the moment. Definitely collectible.

I accidentally saw an Aussie movie called the Stranger. I had time to kill and happened to be near a theatre. What a great movie it was....Mr Inbetween is a light comedy compared to it. Acting is amazing...a bit slow but builds tension until it is hard to watch....its based on a true murder. Aus makes gritty crime movies like no other. Well done Aus!

This series is good, but I wish each episode were longer and the segues were a little less abrupt between scene changes where ( I think ) commercial inserts are placed. These spots are black screen for 3 or 4 seconds long and breaks the flow of the story line. It is like this on the DVD set that I have.
If you liked this series, then you should check out the series "Dexter". A very well done, well written and directed masterpiece with great story lines that will keep you glued to your screen. A few notable cameos by well known actors that you will recognize immediately. You will not be disappointed.

First I watched the Mr. Inbetween series on Hulu. Then I watched it on Hulu again. Then I watched it somewhere else ... the full series again. Then I watched a bunch of tributes over the last year and a half. Then, most recently, I watched your on ĒCHØ • Editor. Very nice, especially the way you showcase the various aspects of Ray Shoesmith's character. I still miss the show, the genius, Shoesmith's doomed brother Bruce. I'm eager to learn if Scott Ryan finds a soft place to land with a friend who gives him the respect and free rein he'll need for his next project as he was able to take advantage of so successfully in this series.
Two Questions for you, one that's trivial, one that matters enormously. What was the name of Ray's friend who was shot and killed by the drone when the evil trio tried to murder them both in the farmhouse? The enormous question: what was the name of the killed man's son, whom Ray promises to help when his friend dies? That is the one possible scenario for future Mr. Inbetween episodes, perhaps years from now. Please don't misunderstand; I thought the way Ryan brought the show to an end was perfect. Ray just didn't want to have to work with and for casually cruel, brutal and murderous scum for the rest of his life. They didn't need to kill his sweet, young girfriend, but did so simply because she was inconvenient. They all deserved to die in due course as they did, but Ray spared equally feckless and uncaring Freddie as if to mark the end of Mr. Inbetween. That was truly brilliant in my view, Ray succeeding in doing what literally scores of bad guys always say the want to do, and then fail to do: get out of the business for good. An older, wiser, still potentially lethal Ray trying to set a younger version of Mr. Inbetween straight might make a short, compelling series somewhere down the line. And it is also a showbiz truism that a wise actor should ''Never say never!''
