Beautiful to be able to see them with all those young!
That's a sugar maple that they're nesting in! Sugar, Red, and Silver are the 3 main native maples for Ontario and Québec - sugar is the slow growing hardwood giant of the group.
In Ontario and Quebec, especially on a slope, Sugar maple and Beech are the most common late successional trees that eventually dominate our forests and turn them into hardwood ones. That particular forest type happens to be the preferred nesting site for Cooper's!🌳

      Thanks Jon,
It was a special moment for me being accepted at such close range, I wouldn't ever do that in the UK as they would stay well clear, that's when the fieldcraft comes into it's own and getting in under the cover of darkness.
So nice to have the ID with the Trees, I knew they were Maples but not what type, more investigation needed.
They seem to love the deciduous trees over the coniferous types... Our Hawks like Pine more often. Cheers Rich 👍

Flip me you smashed it !!! Now I know what you mean when you said you got great things to come . Outstanding & to get the sequence on film of the female coming in with its prey so hard to press the record before that happens . That app for the camera is cracking great idea . Mate you’ve definitely done a proper job & well that last sequence for part 2 is a dream sequence!!!! Just outstanding!!! Can’t wait for part 2 ! Have a great week ahead 👍

Lol, thanks Craig I was so pleased with my day with the Hawks! Being accepted by the adults was the biggest privilege to be honest and getting a few images was a bonus. The App really does cut down on disturbance and is handy in quite a few situations, I aim on using it much more in the field. Hope you enjoy part 2 which has plenty of action. R👍

PS. Proper Job - Makes me think of ale... real ale, and beer gardens, and crisps. Aw man, just as well I have so much wildlife to distract me from the things I miss ;o)

Happy Canada day to you too, sadly I'm in the UK and I've missed it! It was certainly a great way to finish an interesting year with City wildlife. Yeah, LOL as Proper Job is one of my favourite Ales, miss a pint on that. Yep me too, wildlife is good at doing that. R😀

Hopefully you can celebrate Canada Day in the capital next year! Some of the liquor stores import bottles of UK ale, but not quite the same as a proper poured pint in a pub eh. Cheers! 🙂
