Awesome captures, Rich. I was on a bird walk with Audubon one time when we all saw a Cooper's Hawk perched way up high on a branch, fully visible to all in our group. Our leader told us, "This is a Cooper's Hawk who are bird-eating birds..." and she no sooner got that sentence out of her mouth before the hawk swooped down, as if on cue, grabbed a Red-winged Blackbird on the ground, and turned and headed straight for the woods! Our mouths hung open for a second trying to absorb all the awesomeness that moment had for us. I'm so happy you got to see all this and share it with us!
Thanks June really glad you enjoyed the video, it was so much fun doing it.
Wow, thats quite a story and it's hard to believe when it happens right in front of your eyes, hard for some to watch but that's Nature in all it's rawness for you. So pleased you thought so. Thanks again for the Coffee. 🙏
How cool are these birds-I just love his ‘trousers’….she is a beast…so big! The calls are amazing! the food passes seriously awesome 🙌 xx
Yeah, hes a smart dude that Cooper's puts up with a lot from his Wife, good job I've got a good one, lol... Yeah those food passes were awesome to witness and so close I could hear everything. Thanks x
What a brilliant day you had Richard. Great stills and footy. What a way to finish up before you move. All the best Steve.
Thanks very much Steve, such a great time with the Hawk's and a memorable experience for sure. Hoping for a great move with lots more wildlife to come. Cheers R👍
This is so relaxing the David Attenborough of bird 📸
Cheers Nik, I wish, lol.. All the best 👍
Hi Rich, top video indeed 👍 such beautiful birds these hawks, he was bringing some prey in there weren't he 😮 marvellous. Thanks for bringing us along Mate 👍📸📸
Hey Lee, it was a great way to finish and one for the memory books as it was a delight to see and observe a raptor so close and to learn about a new specie. He was a great hunter although getting a hard time from the adult female. Thanks for watching . R👍
Awsome Richard that was some plucking post, it's been great following your adventures over the pond and I look forward to your future adventures. All the best Andy 👍

Thank you, Richard for putting in all the hard work and proper talent on producing these very special videos. It takes a lot of dedication and persistence to put yourself in that situation and get those spectacular results. It doesn't get any better than that. Proper job done and on to your next adventure. Cheers, Phil
Thanks Phil, really glad you like the video. Birds of Prey are always my thing but these Hawks really did put on a fantastic show for me and one I'll always remember for some time to come. On to the next chapter, thanks again for supporting the channel. R👍
hi Richard
I haven't followed you for a while. beautiful images are shown here again. Have a good time in Ottawa.
Thanks my friend and Welcome back, I've missed your comments but glad you are still watching now and then. Hope you are keeping well my friend. Cheers Rich 👍
Great photography Richard, well done.
Many thanks Martin, all the very best Rich 👍
Really superb great shots of the Hawks ands a fitting goodbye to Toronto 👍👍
Thanks Dad, I've loved finishing on a high with that last video, like you say a fitting tribute to a year in the big city. And those Hawks were pretty special and one's I won't forget in a hurry. M :-)
Ho Richard that was absolutely AMAZING you blow it out of the park with that video, the footage was outstanding definitely your best yet, they are certainly prolific hunters squirrel had a bad ending but that nature for you, I’m amazed at that video truly was brilliant Richard, good luck with the move mate thank you for sharing it with us. Martyn
Ah, thanks Martyn. Glad you think it's one of the best and you've been following me for quite sometime now so I really appreciate it. Yeah, it's a hard pill to swallow sometimes but thats the way nature is, RAW at times but beautiful all the same. Thanks, see you in the next one. Take care Rich 👍
This video was like a whole other level of amazing!!
Beautiful out of focus background of greens and browns behind the log... bright and dark...pro sharp are heck!
It's interesting that it almost seems like there's a bit of intimidation done by the female towards the male!
Thanks Jon,
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, it was so much fun spending the time with these amazing birds. I loved the light and darkness of the woodland and the light bouncing off the birds showing their light and dark side. Cheers R
Ya what an experience to of witnessed that !! Like you say ,that’s when field craft comes into play !! Totally get your excitement getting those sequences. And sorry to say it ,but in my opinion this is where filming comes into play to get sequences & audio just makes it better than a photo ! Guessing your trail camera came into play at the end of the blog !! I was thinking that when you showed the killing log , that a camera would work a treat on there !! 🎥 mate a delight to watch first class 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Craig,
Thanks mate, really glad you thought it was a good one and I agree having video does bring the story to life much more than just a still image. Always excited in Nature, I think when I start saying it's only a Buzzard or something it's time to hang up the camera, I doubt that will ever happen, lol... Cheers Rich
Awesome footage Richard!
Cheers Steve, glad you enjoyed it. R👍
What fantastic experience mate.
Much appreciated John 👍
Thanks!
Thanks so much June 😊👍
Well done mate! I know you'll be sorry to say goodbye to them when you move to Ottowa. Thanks to your video I can now confirm I've seen one too! I've been trying to look it up but when I saw one landing on your footage with the fantail bars and colours that pretty much confirmed it. Great footage and keep going!! 👌
Thanks Phil, yeah it was sad to leave that spot for sure! Still onwards and upwards to the next chapter in our lives! Seen my first Bald Eagle over the river, gave me a call too!! Amazing experience.. Glad you got to see one, amazing birds. Cheers R
Congrats Richard! Great footage! Now you'll have to find a goshawk nest. 😀
Thanks very much David, now that's a bird I need a date with, lol... 😅👍
Top Drawer
Cheers buddy:-)
WOW, amazing pics you got there, folloing you from Denmark
Thanks very much indeed Stephen, great to have you follow me from Denmark. Cheers Rich 👍
Fantastic work Richard well done
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it. R🙏👍
Looking forward to seeing you in Ottawa.
Thanks very much Phillip, loving it so far! Arrived on Sunday and see my first close Bald Eagle! What a bird 👍
@@RichardBirchett Great. Yes they are wonderful birds, the national bird for us here in the US but it was almost not so. Ben Franklin lobbied hard for the wild turkey to be the national symbol. Old Ben was wise but he missed it there I think! P.
@philipculbertson55 thanks Phillip, I was telling my young son who was with me it was your national bird! I like turkeys but the baldy gets my vote. Cheers for that info, I’ll use that and say thanks to you when I do a video on them 👍
@@RichardBirchett Hey Richard, I need to clarify the record on Franklin and the Bald Eagle. I looked up the story and he did not lobby congress for the wild turkey to be the US symbol though he didn't care for the bald eagle. In a letter to his daughter, here is what Ben Franklin actually wrote: "the “Bald Eagle...is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly…[he] is too lazy to fish for himself.” In the letter, he went on to write bout the turkey that in comparison to the bald eagle, the turkey is “a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America...He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage.”
So Richard I set the record straight. I didn't want you to be misinformed. The info above came directly from the Franklin Institute. Cheers, Philip in South Carolina.
@philipculbertson55 Amazing info Philip, love it! Thanks very much for looking into it, I was only telling my wife and son about it so I’ll now tell them the exact account of what he said.
I love all facts like that so thanks very much 😀👍
Bloody fantastic stuff Rich! 👌🙌👏👏👏
I’m so pleased for you mate, I know it’s never easy to deliver in front of the camera; but you earnt this bud. Incredible footage & stills, cleaned up nicely considering they were up to 8000 ISO, & it’s also pleasing to see that even seasoned pro’s like yourself get carried away in the moment at times, & just get trigger happy with the shutter button when the adrenaline rush kicks in. Mega mate, just mega 👏👏👏
Best of luck to you & the family on the next chapter of your Canadian adventure 🇨🇦
Keep on keeping on mate!
Catch you for the next one soon.
All the best,
Nick
Hey Nick,
Thanks buddy I really appreciate it, so nice when people get to see what I do and enjoy coming along for the ride, yeah I was pushing that ISO which the R3 handled really well, I dropped some down to 1/60th hoping to get a better image so some worked and some didn't but it's all camera memory fiddling around with the buttons and trying not to get lost in the excitement, lol..
I always get pretty excited and if that stops I'll hang up the camera, chances of that!!!! Slim to none, lol... Thanks again mate and see you in the next one. Rich 👍
👍👍🌷🌷❤❤🌹🌹👌👌
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it. Cheers Rich 👍
