Wow Richard that was a fantastic video being entertained by a Merlin just amazing, really enjoyed the video fantastic place what the Beaver 🦫 has created, the video was amazing such stunning Ducks, the hummingbird was fantastic too see you certainly got a lot of wildlife there, absolutely amazing video Richard thank you for sharing it with us. Martyn
Many thanks Martyn, It was a total bonus as the Beavers were a no show but as you well know that's Nature for you! But to see one hunting like that was incredible for me. My pleasure, I got lucky that day but doesn't always happen! Rich 👍
Beautiful colours in that Merlin! Sounds like you were frying bacon at the end - must have been big rain droplets :) Lovely to see the hummingbird too. Great images and video, as always. Thanks Rich
Quite an insight into how long it can take to get the photos, you have such patience.Glad the noises behind you stopped!🥴 Lovely Merlin.Enjoyed as always.x🥰
Thanks mate, it was a nice experience being in such a remote spot! Shame no Moose or Bear but probably better that way, lol… hope you’re doing okay? 💪🏻👍
Hi Richard, great to see your shots and video of the Merlin and the Hummingbird. Talk about both ends of the spectrum! Looking forward to you next video. Cheers
Another nice video Rich. The yellow-orange flowers are Jewelweed (aka Spotted Touch Me Not). They are a favourite of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds this time of year.
Thanks Richard just really enjoy your blogs posts !! Just raw feel like we are there with you . Still you got some encounters there for sure . Like the tease for your next post Beavers 🦫 coming soon I thinks !!
Another great video Richard. Now, for an apology to all your UK friends and fans. Seems Richard has become too accustomed to Tim Hortons Double Double and a maple dip donut...all that huffing and puffing walking up that little hill. We, his Canadian fans, will do our best to make sure Richard returns home in a few years in not too bad shape...now no promises if he discovers Ottawa Haut cuisine, the famous Beaver Tails. LOL
LOL, Love that Peter! I was blowing a bit as that food was still sitting so high! How did you know about my Timmys secret! Please do and if you see the belly getting bigger, tell me! Cheers and have a great trip away. R👍
Paused it to comment at the point where you were excited about the hawk/falcon hunting over the lake - could it be a red footed falcon? Will continue the video now….
The beaver there are probably different than ours down in South Carolina. Ours don't come out until well after dark. I always see them in the first half hour or so of light in the morning before they go in for the day. That looked like a great spot though if you can be there when they are out. I've never seen a merlin. We have the occasional kestrel and there are peregrines on the escarpment cliff faces but no merlin.
Thanks for the info Philip, nice to hear about the difference geographically. I was hoping due to the quietness of the area I might get lucky as I see them lots along the Ottawa river near me, will hopefully try again soon. Merlins are special birds and so rapid! Hope you get to see one soon. Thanks again Rich
Enjoyed that son good try for the beavers best of luck next time. What a great area to pitch your hide in,look forward to next time, did you have the dog with you all the time?
Just goes to show Richard even if youve not carrying the camera equipment with you always pays to have a pair of "bins" with you for moments like this with the Merlin. Seems odd to see them hunting in such enclosed habitat as you know over here in the U. k. it's a bird of open terrain. Keep safe and watch out for those Bears ! Look forward to seeing more content. 👍
Thanks Glenn, I usually always take it but with the hide I thought maybe not this time, typical! At least my BINS, School boy error there, lol.. Yeah, not normal considering the European Falcons but I guess they do adapt to different habitats. I will, and thanks for stopping by for another video. Cheers R👍
Top Drawer .. What's price / weight of that portable hide .. can it be attached to your bag ??? Could do with one for the rainy days down along the Coast
Thanks Colin, The Lagopus is quite weighty and can be strapped to the base or top of most backpacks! Not really good for long hikes. But in the right place, bloody awesome to use! Weighs around 4.3 kgs including all accessories and bag. Did a review on it here..ruclips.net/video/uQyxmDRuJ4o/видео.htmlsi=4iv0ApyQ3dITig6c Cheers Rich
@@Fred-wb5nz oh okay, always enjoy a bit of military humour being Ex Military myself! Thought you were insinuating baiting for a minute, thats something I don’t do! Cheers R

That title must be click bait - beavers and birds
Hey Fred,
Not sure I get it, what do you mean? Thanks Rich
@@RichardBirchett just a bit of double-meaning army humour on my part.
