They are protected now, that's a fact. Attacking a pedophile is now considered a hate crime. _In theory._
In practice, I just got out of prison in Ohio in May of this year. When a new pedophile came in, the guards would tell us when they did their rounds that the new guy liked kids.
Those guys had a tendency to slip in the bathroom and hit their heads.
