you absolutely nailed it... I have the exact same for #1 and #2. Akhlys and Paysage d'Hiver are absolutely the 2 best metal albums this year.. especially in the realm of black metal.
i think i have 3 new releases from 2024 lol. You have done a great job onboarding that many and being able to rank them all. I think you're totally in your right to change your mind next week, next month or whenever, your collection your taste. Do you think you'll be picking up that much again in '25? Tymvos is a good shout. 2024 was ridiculous for metal, tonnes of releases and so much quality especially in the black metal realm. I personally have mainly picked up stuff down to the price I got it for and have bought a lot of second hand stuff which I tend to listen to first, hence I have a stupid amount of sealed stuff I had to put straight into boxes 🤦🏻♂️ 2 thirds through and I've got to break away for a few minutes and so far I too have bought a fair few of these, Blood Incantation I want the artbook but I ain't paying £50 😂 Sorry it took me a while to to start watching this, I've been having a bit of a break from watching vc channels over the last month or so, although I can't really say why other than I can be quite solemn and just avoid conversation. I'll watch the top 3 in a minute, hope you had a good Christmas and my best wishes for you and the family for 2025! 🍻🤘🏻🤘🏻 I need to spin that Aara 😅

I found it incredible that Paysage d'Hiver finished their career with the their best album ever! I think most wouldn't believe Wint would save the best for last after so many incredible albums and demos in his catalogue! Other great releases in the black metal realm imho were Oranssi Pazuzu, Rotting Christ (always), Limbonic Art, Nocturnal Depression, Arstidir Lifsins and Kawir (Rotting Christ's evil twin). In other genres/styles, I'd recommend Ixion, Swallow the Sun, Wishdoom Falls, Bloodhum, Hail Spirit Noir and Ulcerate. Judas Priest (which would be an obvious choice for me) somehow disappointed me this year. "Invincible Shield" is nothing that I hadn't heard before.
I can't get enough of the Paysage D'Hiver release even though the run time means it's a commitment every time I play it. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll definitely check them out. I didn't actually mind the Priest album but as you said it was nothing I hadn't heard before. Thanks for watching 🤘

I've really tried getting into the new Blood Incantation, but the ambient/synth stuff is not for me. Necrowretch will for sure be on mine, but on a different place, haha. Sick list man! I just got that Civerous on CD that intro is a total skip for me but the rest is killer. It was too late to fit in my best of the year list tho. Same with that sick Spectral Voice got it too late. First rate Death Doom indeed. I did place the Fulci in my top 12. Would like to still pick up that Dipygus. Cheers Sean have a good holiday! 🤘

Some good albums making the list Sean and good to hear your thoughts on the albums. These end of year lists are never an easy thing to do. Good to see Tymvos, one that you recommended a while back. Yeah I know what you mean about the winterfylleth possibly being higher, only picked it up at the start of the month myself and it's a very good album, no doubt it would have been higher if you had more time with it.

Just got through Paysage D'Hiver's new record last night. That one and the new Arstidir Lifsins album (which is called Aldrlok) are extremely long and will not be played often... but both are experiences well worth taken!
Arstidir Lifsins is hypnotic, fantastic, the kind of black metal that really takes you to somewhere else. Paysage d'Hiver doesn't even need to be recommended, guy's the best at what he does.

I'd not heard any of these albums before, but now checked a few out: Fulci sounds good, listening to Blood Incantation now and I'm liking it a lot 👍 My faves of 2024: New Model Army, Saxon, Atrophy, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Cemetery Skyline, My Dying Bride, Accept, Kerry King, The Cure and Rotting Christ.

FUCKIN 🤘👹💀👹🤘 Greetings and salutations Beast. Honestly. I feel like a lot of your chosen 20 I would blind buy on the strength of the album covers alone. Out of your 20, I'll be honest and say that I'm familiar with 8 of the bands. I'll be seeking out the other 12 bands directly. I don't believe any other kind of music has the strength of never being milked dry. Top 40 is just mindless,consumer music,rave music is fairly stupid and don't get me started on how useless rap is. Remember kids, you can't spell crap without the word rap. Those types of "music" have very little ground to be mined from. Not so with METAL. "Don't listen to this if you know you shouldn't do something?" First one I'm looking up partner. Anyway, I would wish you a Merry Christmas, but I don't believe in the Easter bunny.
