How do you change the gas on a Yardworks 163CC 3-in-1 High Wheel Gas Push Lawn Mower. It was left outside in the winter. Its brand new used only a few times last summer. I was told there may be water in the gas.
take the top off the gas tank, get a turkey baster and use it to remove the old gas and any junk in the bottom, then refill with new premium grade gas along with a gas treatment like seafoam, check the air filter to make sure mice have not used it as a nest, pull the spark plug and gently clean it with an emory board or nail file to remove any rust and then wipe it with a clean paper towel, and try to start it. if that fails try spraying some carb cleaner into the carb. if that fails or if it starts but runs bad then the carb needs to be pulled, taken apart and cleaned and then reassembled. after using the mower you should put a plastic cover like a plastic bag or even a plastic garbage can lid or tub over the motor to keep rain from getting down into it.
I have heard different values with ohms readings (multimeter) for small engine spark plugs (mower, snow blower, etc.). Can you set it straight for me? Some say a good spark plug should read 500 to 5000 ohms. Others say 4000 to 8000 ohms. And still, others say 5000 to 15000 ohms. Which is it? Or, is there another standard of values to use?

I thought I’d be nice and mow my parents lawn since they’ve been out of town for a month. I was able to start it no problem and mow the knee high grass, but after one row, the blades weren’t turning, so I shut it off, not thinking, I turned it on it’s side to grab the stuck grass out of the blade. I noticed gas (I assume) was leaking out of the gas cap on the brick. So I turned it back over and now it won’t start. I can see some gas in the tank, but maybe it’s just not enough to start it? (Hopefully). It’s 110° and they told me it was too hot to mow, but I didn’t want my dad to have to do it when he gets home. Hopefully I didn’t break it! Suggestions?

My mower quit while mowing the lawn. Then, I hear some metal parts while wiggling the mower, found broken pieces of connecting rod. Is it worth to replace the rod for a year old mower purchased $459 brand new?
I avoid issues by "cleaning my spark plug" in the spring and checking/regapping it if needed. My plugs typically last years. My mower was surging badly. I pulled the fuel bowl and found bits of grass. Once cleaned no more surging. Whenever I buy fuel, as soon as I get home I add the required amount of stabilizer.
Unscrew the spark plug, tilt the mower up so that you can pour some fuel directly into the spark plug hole. Screw the spark plug back in. Place back level and then pull the cord. Preferably do it outside due to fire risk. Worked like a charm for me.
@@nasnow4282 also those clear lines usually look like they are always empty, take the line that goes from the tank into the carb and see if gas is leaking out
I stopped at a garage sale this morning. They had a non running lawnmower. I pulled the cord and it had compression. I bought it for 10$ I watched this video and went out to try my luck. It was out of gas. Runs perfectly
What if you just bought it yesterday and it won't start. This is my THIRD mower in a month that are brand new and either turns off while I'm mowing or just won't start. First two were craftsman and my third one that I just bought yesterday is a Troy built
Great video. Thanks for posting. My craftsman push mower when you pull the rope it may take 25 pulls and then it tries to start but all you hear is noise like it wants to start. Any thoughts? Also do I need a special tool to remove my spark plug? I will try that first. I am a woman trying to fix things on my own. I do own a few tools. Any thoughts on my mower problem is appreciated. The repair shops around here see a woman and think we are all stupid and will charge us hundreds of dollars for basically doing very little. I am tired of being used, abused and over charged. Thank you for your time. Be well during this coronavirus outbreak. 😀
If the motor isn't seized, it could be the brake is on a little or a lot. The handle you pull back when starting releases a brake on the flywheel. Make sure you pull that handle all the way back and also know that it might have developed a little slack in the line. The other thing that can just about jerk your arm off is if the flywheel key got sheared.
First for me. Brand new out of box Craftsman. I'm not mechanical. I just expect things to work. Cord would not pull. Went through all the instructions...How hard should it be? Pull the cord...have been mowing my lawn for 50 years. Called the store where I purchased. No surprise...they don't answer phones any more. Finally loaded it back in car with mower tank full of gas. I got to customer service counter and suggested they answer phones. I politely asked the clerk to please have someone come to car and show me how to start the mower or just give me my money back. Rep from the garden department finally went to my car as I asked him to help bring it in since he couldn't give me an answer. He did state that there were a couple other people who called to bring theirs back as they had the same problem. End of story...as he is unloading he notices something and said let me check something...As it turned out...When Craftsman ships they retract the handle for more room and it extends to blades and keeps them from turning until you extend the handle. Started up immediately! I was stunned...#1 Craftsman should make that a "front and center bold type page 1" and #2, the store was taking returns for this issue? Communication? Lack of training? Whatever...was glad to finally get my lawn mowed.
You literally saved me a nasty headache and a long trip to the hardware store. I recently bought a Craftsman mower and the exact thing happened to me; the cord would not pull no matter what I did! While I had some experience fixing mowers, I kept thinking 'this is a new mower. It should NOT have any problems whatsoever.' I looked at your comment while trying other means of fixing my lawn mower and saw the exact same problem: the handlebars are extended down past the blades. After pulling the bars up, my lawn mower works fine and cuts grass like butter. If Craftsman wants to stay in business, they really should mention it in the manual in LOUD BOLD LETTERS! Thanks aplenty, kind stranger!

I’ve seen another yt video about this, you have to push the blades around a bit yourself,Make you disconnect spark plug though and get a long piece of wood then shove it under a push the blades. I’ll try to find a link later
Dennis Skomorucha first make sure fuel is getting to the carburetor. If you have fuel getting to the float bowl you will need to take off the carburetor and remove the contaminants or blockages from the carburetor.
When none of the the tips works then replace the lawn mower with a new one. I brought my craftsman lawn mower a year ago. Over the winter I stored it in the garage but the Covid-19 apparently attacked it and it won't start. No PPE or mask for it. I can't find a ventilator for it. So perhaps a new mower.
Toro mower starts on first pull, runs like a champ, but refuses to start via electric start. Has new Battery and new Alternator. No broken wires that I have been able to find. Any ideas. I am lost as to what is preventing this engine from starting by electric start.
I have a Yard machines by MTD 4.5 hp lawnmower. LV148EA model Tecumseh engine. I have cleaned the carb, changed the oil, changed the gas, changed the spark plug and changed the air filter. There just doesn’t seem to be any spark at all. Any ideas?
Lol that's what I said. The following day after using the lawn mower my legs and arms were aching 😁. Though mines have the self push feature. But I don't use it as much.
Pull the spark plug. With the plug out pull the starter cable a good 10-15 times, (it will pull very easily without the plug). Clean the plug with a couple squirts of wd-40 put the plug back in and give it a couple pulls... You can thank me later!
@@jbm031548 How to release starter cord if stucked: When assembling the handle pull the handle bar up to the 2nd hole then reattach the T bolt. yes, but if it starts when cold, but not when hot, the coil is going bad. I have that issue on a 5hp B&S right now. oddly I could disconnect the stop switch and it would run fine until I reconnected the stop switch. so I replaced the stop switch with a part from a junker and it started fine when cold, but not when hot. so the stop switch is not the problem, it is the coil and this is even though the coil will test as ok on my multimeter. I ordered a new B&S coil, cost was $41 (ouch). but the original stop switch may have also been bad too.

These are the top 6 reasons we have found from our customers and extensive research. There can be additional reasons. We always recommend to check the regular maintenance and upkeep first.
I push the primer bulb 10 times, pull it, if it starts it will run just fine. If I wait more than a few seconds to pull it, it won't start. It won't start until the next day. Then push 10 times and it starts first pull. If I pull it once and then prime it 10 times it won't start. If I stop it for more than a few seconds, it won't start back up. Has never started with the recommended three primer push. New spark plug, air filter. New gas.

remove and take the carb apart and clean it making sure you clean the jets and use compressed air to remove all debris, reassemble and install, check the air filter, remove gas from tank and clean out the junk in the bottom, replace any fuel filters, pull and clean the spark plug (or replace it), refill with fresh premium gas. I did this to a TroyBuilt that had sat unused for 6 years and was given to a friend by her Mom. had the same problem you described and this is what I had to do to fix it. It has been running fine for 6 months now, like new and a really good self-propelled machine. Key is to run the tank dry before winter storage so the carb does not get fouled up over the winter. I have lawn mowers that are over 20 years old that still run and do the job. Key is fall maintenance every year like cleaning the under deck, painting any bad spots on top, oiling the cables and wheels, and getting rid of the gas by running the motor until it runs out of gas. My biggest issue is the decks tend to rot out long before the motor quits.

Quite educational thanks

Have you been able to restart it?
@@manofculture4945 Yes thankfully it just needed to dry out, and the Arizona heat dries up anything quick! I went inside for 45 minutes to cool off from the sun, and when I went back outside, it was working again like new!

My mower quit while mowing the lawn. Then, I hear some metal parts while wiggling the mower, found broken pieces of connecting rod. Is it worth to replace the rod for a year old mower purchased $459 brand new?
It’s better to buy a new one
I avoid issues by "cleaning my spark plug" in the spring and checking/regapping it if needed. My plugs typically last years. My mower was surging badly. I pulled the fuel bowl and found bits of grass. Once cleaned no more surging. Whenever I buy fuel, as soon as I get home I add the required amount of stabilizer.
This narrator makes this sound like “Lawn Mower Fix Pitch Meeting”. Replacing broken flywheels is tight!
thank you i think my problem was the fly wheel key because the lawn mower stop work right after hitting a hard object

Unscrew the spark plug, tilt the mower up so that you can pour some fuel directly into the spark plug hole. Screw the spark plug back in. Place back level and then pull the cord.
Preferably do it outside due to fire risk. Worked like a charm for me.
Thanks for the tip.
My lawnmower has gas leaking from the carburetor. What is my problem?
Your problem is that either the fuel bowl gasket is old and leaky, or the needle isn’t closing and over flowing and causing gas to come out
My fuel won’t get pulled out of the tank and in the carb tips pleae
How do you know?
@@manofculture4945 no gas will go through the line there new ones so there clear
@@nasnow4282 check that the tank is clean firstly
@@manofculture4945 I will thank you god bless
@@nasnow4282 also those clear lines usually look like they are always empty, take the line that goes from the tank into the carb and see if gas is leaking out
I stopped at a garage sale this morning. They had a non running lawnmower. I pulled the cord and it had compression. I bought it for 10$
I watched this video and went out to try my luck. It was out of gas. Runs perfectly

what is the gap setting for 10hp Briggs and Stratton?
Duane Myers usually 030. Had to gap mine just today.
it does not show what is ''damaged , faulty, wear '' spark plug what does it look like these. Also where is the corroborator ? how to uninstall it .
What if you just bought it yesterday and it won't start. This is my THIRD mower in a month that are brand new and either turns off while I'm mowing or just won't start. First two were craftsman and my third one that I just bought yesterday is a Troy built
Make sure there is engine oil and enough gas in the tank. Most don't come with engine oil inside. All new lawnmowers can't have the same problem.
I clean the carb jet, now starts like a champ.

@Jayski Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Be well. 😀
Keep pulling
the rope is hard to pull what is the problem?
If the motor isn't seized, it could be the brake is on a little or a lot. The handle you pull back when starting releases a brake on the flywheel. Make sure you pull that handle all the way back and also know that it might have developed a little slack in the line. The other thing that can just about jerk your arm off is if the flywheel key got sheared.
How much harder is it to start the lawn mower for the first time of the year when temperature is less than 60 F versus over 80 F ?
This was helpful and got me going!
Remove or fix shutoff mechanism
That cable coming loose is the first thing I check.
Great video!
no mention of the battery as a possible cause?
Do lawn mowers have batteries???

My lawn mower front is lowered to the ground. Does anyone know what the problem could be. the wire support bracket is not missing or broken.
ADJUST THE HEIGHT LEVERS - -THE FRONT MAY BE SET AT DIFFERENT HEIGHT THAN THE REAR TWO WHEELS
What would make the rope not pull? It can be jiggled out bit by bit but won't pull out by tugging the handle trying to start it
I’ve seen another yt video about this, you have to push the blades around a bit yourself,Make you disconnect spark plug though and get a long piece of wood then shove it under a push the blades.
I’ll try to find a link later

What should I do to fix it?
Dennis Skomorucha first make sure fuel is getting to the carburetor. If you have fuel getting to the float bowl you will need to take off the carburetor and remove the contaminants or blockages from the carburetor.
When none of the the tips works then replace the lawn mower with a new one. I brought my craftsman lawn mower a year ago. Over the winter I stored it in the garage but the Covid-19 apparently attacked it and it won't start. No PPE or mask for it. I can't find a ventilator for it. So perhaps a new mower.
Haha... Im sure there's a solution to that.
I'm currently looking for a solution myself...after a Calgary winter.
LOL
Well you clearly didn't practice social distancing.
maybe it was a variant - little sucker!!!!
Maybe needs fresh fuel.
Toro mower starts on first pull, runs like a champ, but refuses to start via electric start. Has new Battery and new Alternator. No broken wires that I have been able to find. Any ideas. I am lost as to what is preventing this engine from starting by electric start.

Really, thanks a lot for this video, very useful.
can someone pls tell me how to open the lawn mowers fuel cap thing😭 i really struggle
I got a 10.20 reading on my ignition coil. Is that good or bad?
Needs to be 12 :8
If the rope brakes can’t u just role- push it off to start it? U know drop that clutch.
I have a Yard machines by MTD 4.5 hp lawnmower. LV148EA model Tecumseh engine. I have cleaned the carb, changed the oil, changed the gas, changed the spark plug and changed the air filter. There just doesn’t seem to be any spark at all. Any ideas?
test the coil which is probably bad and replace with a new one.
I can't get the string to pull and I can't get to it
Who needs to go to the gym when you've got a push lawn mower to keep you in shape?
😂😂😂
Nahhhh😂🤣🤣
Lol that's what I said. The following day after using the lawn mower my legs and arms were aching 😁. Though mines have the self push feature. But I don't use it as much.
i have a snapper self propelled lawn mower and it wont start.
Hassan Sardar check if it has spark
take it into the small engine shop
Pull the spark plug. With the plug out pull the starter cable a good 10-15 times, (it will pull very easily without the plug). Clean the plug with a couple squirts of wd-40 put the plug back in and give it a couple pulls... You can thank me later!
Same problem, new self propelled mower, & cord wont pull out to start ?
@@jbm031548 How to release starter cord if stucked:
When assembling the handle pull the handle bar up to the 2nd hole then reattach the T bolt. When handle is left at the 1st set hole it prevents the blade at bottom of mower from turning which prevents the starter cord from releasing.
If you look at the bottom you'll see what I mean.
Glad to see Ted Wasanasong is narrating now after his stint on king of the hill
Thanks for sharing your top reasons lawn mower not starting.
might want to check the cable that pulls the stop switch as that is a common problem as well
yes, but if it starts when cold, but not when hot, the coil is going bad.
@@tedwilliford7218 how do you check a coil I have a weedeater that won't start and appears to have no spark but it's big job to take apart so I want to do all the checking of other things first. It wouldn't start so I replaced the gas lines and it started right up but then the next time no cigar and I can't get it to fart even tried starting juice nope. So I figure the coil is it
I have the same unit with no problemas.
How about simply changing the filter??? I did today and the damn thing started up immediately - $8...
Fuel filter was number 3 in the video. Or you mean the air filter?
@@adamwhitt9349 In my case, it was the air filter.
The wire from the starter wasn’t connected so I soldered the wire back to the starter. Then come to find out that wire had disconnected from the Engine.🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️😢😢 so I reconnected the wire so I soldered those wires together. It started right up with no problems..... thank you for making this video now I can find out what is wrong with my second mower.
It could also be low oil level so check that out as well
These are the top 6 reasons we have found from our customers and extensive research. There can be additional reasons. We always recommend to check the regular maintenance and upkeep first.
my lawn mower front is lowered to the ground
slammed lawnmowers.. now that's new
All this seems good if you know how to take apart AND Put the things back together again properly.
Another reason. My tether when I pulled the mower ripped off trying to turn it on.
Lmaoo
bruh 😂
Hi.my loan mower refused to start after using it what could be the cause,?
Two more reasons. 1 : fuel valve closed. 2: popped piston
Mine can’t get air
Instructions unclear: I now have only 1 limb.
Please be safe!
If your lawn mower won’t start here are the 5 most probable causes!
So i watched this 4 times, and i still can't start it. Guess RUclips can't fix everything.
Oh You mean i have to do the work!!!
😂😂😂
Must get up & off the ol bung hole.
If you get done mowing and about to mow again it will not start after a couple of min or 30 mins and see if it will start
New gas.
look at the basics -fuel, spark, timing.
the bulb itself probably is tore
I tried cranking it up so many times and it won’t turn on. My dad changed the spark plug just recently and it still shuts off. 😅
I buy new today in Home Depot .Power Smart DB8621P. And I work today maybe 1h and I try to start hi doesn’t start Complitly New.

How do u replace a cord
Toro mowers
Won’t reverse
Another common problem we've found is sometimes there's water in the gasoline...
How to fix this problem
@@ameriatucker2504 I did a search as to the differences in ethanol and non ethanol gas, according to the search results, ethanol seems to absorb moisture while non ethanol tends to not.
Toro Model 11A-A28M711421854 wont start but will start breifly with strater fluid
Dennis Skomorucha clean the carburetor
See if the fuel line is detached, or it could need replacing on an old mower.
remove and take the carb apart and clean it making sure you clean the jets and use compressed air to remove all debris, reassemble and install, check the air filter, remove gas from tank and clean out the junk in the bottom, replace any fuel filters, pull and clean the spark plug (or replace it), refill with fresh premium gas.
