I think that's Mike Mazurki as the prisoner. I was about 11 when Rango premiered. Thought it was pretty funny. One episode had Rango as an Indian named Moonface. Antagonist asked "What tribe are you from?" Rango hesitated, making up an answer. "From the...Minnetonkas....from the Land of Sky Blue Waters." Which of course was the Hamm's beer slogan. This ABC series was the first for Danny Thomas and Aaron Spelling, as their Thomas-Spelling Productions company would move on to "THE MOD SQUAD" for ABC in 1968, and "THE NEW PEOPLE" in 1969 (part of ABC"s 90-minute format with "MUSIC SCENE"), shortly before becoming Spelling-Goldberg Productions with Leonard Goldberg in the 1970s (where they also produced "THE ROOKIES", "S.W.A.T.", "STARSKY & HUTCH", and "CHARLIE'S ANGELS", along with "FANTASY ISLAND" (1977-1986), "HART TO HART", (1979-1984), and "TJ HOOKER" (1982-1986)-the three were co-produced with Columbia Pictures Television (now SONY)-but "RANGO" was a rare, short-lived ABC series-oh yes, I also forgot "THE GUNS OF WILL SONNETT", another Thomas-Spelling production, also for ABC in 1967, which ran until 1969, with 50 episodes. Walter Brennan, who previously starred in "THE MILLIONAIRE" and "THE REAL McCOYS", actually cackled with delight on the Paramount lot with his crew when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was killed in 1968 by an assassin's bullet-nice fellow!
Correction: Walter Brennan's other ABC series was called "THE TYCOON" (1964-65) from Danny Thomas Productions, which starred "SURFSIDE SIX" and "GREEN HORNET actor, Van Williams. that TV series was also shot on the Desilu Studios lot. Walter Brennan was also ultra-conservative, and very racist- the actor also said about the 1965 Watts riots, that they could've been stopped with a machine gun -again, what a nice guy (not!)

Ensign Parker in cowboy clothes. I had never seen this series before now. Not shown in my region in Australia. where we had one channel in the 1960s/1970s.
Yes, Conway could be very funny, but as in this, there was a lot of overdone stupidity. I don't know about anybody else, but to me it was often too much and got tiring, depending on the writers. In a 30 minute series, like this, I need a break from the sight gags and/or slap stick, once in a while. Too predictable, I guess. We did get a bit of a break right at the end, before during, and a bit after the woman's confession.
Not even a comedy genius like Conway could make that stale, moldy old script funny. I bet these writers also wrote for the Keystone Kops and Fatty Arbuckle.
I had forgotten all about this show! What a delightful flashback! Thank you!

That was an insult to Texans. The Texas flag was upside down.
I miss the good old days, the directors and actors were 100 time better, woke killed Hollywood and comedy.
Never understood what anyone seen in Conway in anything I ever seen him in during the 60's - 70's.
NEVER heard of rango before! TC is brilliant...ive only seen him in the Carol Burnett show, check out Carol Burnett the Dentist skit, its BRILLIANT; got MILLIONS of views!!!
The first shot says "In Color" ??
This is a b-w film print that was distributed to some TV stations not offering color broadcasts in their area.
Ensign Parker in cowboy clothes.
I had never seen this series before now.
Not shown in my region in Australia. where we had one channel in the 1960s/1970s.
Who else but Tim could play a complete idiot and come out on top? R.I.P. Tim.
In the intro it says "in color" Why the black and white?
This is actually a b-w film print that was distributed to some TV stations not offering color broadcasts in their area.
I do not remember this show not sure I was 10 I should know this
What Maxwell Smart was to spies, Rango was to Texas Rangers. 😆
Would you believe...?
This is Tim Conway doing Don Knotts' Barney Fife in western times. It almost seems stolen from The AG Show.
The credits refer to this as being in color. It clearly was black and white.

I wonder if Rango, starring Tim Conway has any sponsors on ABC🤔
Rango was good AB tried to get Tim another way to entertain the crowd. One season, then bye Tim.
It says in color..I must be color blind.
Whats next? Don Knotts as a US Marshal?
he was the shakiest gun in the west
"In Color"?
I'll take Tim Conway over Don Knotts any day.
Was this show before or after Barney Fife?
It's got nothing to do with Barney Fife. Time was never in The Andy Griffith Show, even as a guest star.
Tim was like Don Rickles, funny as heck, but just didn't fit into a sit com.
well if you'd cut your hair like everybody else ... 🤣
Vaguely remember this series. F Troop was better.
Short Barney Fief
Don't even remember this. Not very good.
This not foe me😅
Not even a comedy genius like Conway could make that stale, moldy old script funny. I bet these writers also wrote for the Keystone Kops and Fatty Arbuckle.
So close to slapstick it was sickening and not at all funny.
Comedy Western? DUMB IDEA! NOTHING FUNNY!
The story of Joe Biden when he was a deputy
Stupid.
