My dad and i loved this show. My liked it, cause he was born on poor farm way back in the woods in Missisippi. Grandpa never own a car, just mules and wagne, only went to town once a month for suppies that they could grow on the farm . No lights or plumbing. He didn't get birth ceraticit until he was 40. Hard working man, but simple. Loved him so much. Been gone 30 years now.
I still live in a rural area in Mississippi, and everybody here is snobby, to be so backwards. But I still like living here more than any big nasty overcrowded city. I would love to visit L.A. for one reason only, but that will never happen.

The segment of the helicopter and the oil man was not always included. Ellie claims to have hit him on the head down at the swamp in some versions when she brings him in over her shoulder.

Much like with Gilligan's Island, the network execs hated this show. But you just can't fight ratings, and the first three seasons of this show were among the funniest ever put on TV. After that, it got pretty campy, but I never tire of watching these early seasons.
There are so many of these kind of shows on MeTV today I still watch them when there's nothing on the main channels.. because I have an antenna TV not cable.. I Love Lucy.. Dick Van Dyke.. Bewitched ..I Dream of Jeannie.. Partridge Family.. Brady Bunch... I can go on and on..❤❤❤❤

It's neat to see a 32 minute pilot episode. The broadcast first episode was definitely edited down to about 27 minutes with different music and a different laugh track.
They announced it was never aired, I’m 73 now and I remember very clearly the first episode (this episode) my sisters and I were sitting on the floor in front off are TV. We were hooked on this sitcom series along with so many others. Watching them today reminds me of my younger days and simpler times. Love the oldies

I agree except this version IS uncut. I have seen this episode many times on RUclips but a few of the lines from this version were cut out in the other version. The description of the city at the very beginning, dies not appear on the the RUclips version. It begins with the truck driving down a city road and jed'a line, *OK, let's find the house we bought.". The film stops just before they enter the gate then flashes back to the cabin when Elly brings home the "stranger". There are several other lines in this version that didn't appear on the other. I think what they meant by "unaired" was it didn't air on the original rum of the series.
The first episode of the actual series is basically this footage with some changes. The Psychiatrist scene was cut, the jail scene was reshot to say Commerce Bank, the music was re-recorded and changed and the opening scene was changed to say The Beverly Hillbillies

Nice to see the pilot with the missing edited out minutes added back in and tge original title and first draft of the theme song that didn't have lyrics yet. Lyrics weren't added till the second season originally. My Bebita Colombian Wife Maria absolutely loves the Beverly Hillbillies. It's as much fun watching her loosing it at Granny's jokes as watching the show itself.
I believe they played the the song on the second episode. I missed the first one but vividly recall the song when the second episode originally aired. (I was a kid, but it was funny, which is more than you can say for most sitcoms in the last 25 years).

My father helped put this together with his good friend Paul Henning. I remember seeing this as a young child as Paul brought the copy to Independence Mo. dad worked with HARRY TRUMAN, they all were great friends.
I worked in Hollywood in the early 1970s. IIRC, to get to the Clampett's house, you drive west on Sunset Boulevard from Los Angeles into Beverly Hills. Then, take the first right into Trousdale Estates (IIRC, there was a large sign at the entrance). Drive almost all the way to the top of the hill The house is on the right side of the road. I believe the bank building shown in the pilot is the Beverly Hills National Bank. I understand that some of its customers were renowned celebrities: Mae West, Constance Bennett, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart and many others. Beverly Hills National Bank ran into some difficulties in the mid 1970s. I believe it became a branch of Wells Fargo. IIRC, in the series the bank's name was Commerce Bank of Beverly Hills rather than the name shown in the pilot.

But same premise for both shows. Mountain family moves to California and tries to adjust.

I've seen this before... somewhere, exactly this episode. A classic show. It was still doing well in the ratings when CBS dumped all their rural comedies and moved to modern urban comedies.
Back in those yrs, as a kid, I could hear bits of those shows, but, if my sadistic Stepfather thought I might be sneakin a peak, to watch it, he'd kick and beat hell out of me... Which always tended to happen, every day, anyway. At least, those shows held his attention, until the Commercials. I've seen this version recently on Pluto free tv. I have tv on all night for background noise and Beverly Hillbillies is on every night for last 5 years. I'm 53 and this show and Andy Griffith are still my favorites .

i cant believe cbs green lit this pilot. must have blown them away when this became top 5 show! paul henning created all those rural shows for cbs.

I've seen this before... somewhere, exactly this episode. A classic show. It was still doing well in the ratings when CBS dumped all their rural comedies and moved to modern urban comedies.
Back in those yrs, as a kid, I could hear bits of those shows, but, if my sadistic Stepfather thought I might be sneakin a peak, to watch it, he'd kick and beat hell out of me... Which always tended to happen, every day, anyway.
At least, those shows held his attention, until the Commercials.
Which, leaves me, feeling warmth, when I hear those voices, and the music, and the laughter.
... Safety, because of them.

Well wait justa a darn tootin' minute - What happened to the theme song part "then one day Jed was shootin' at some food, and up from the ground come a bubblin' crude" ?? There wasn't no singin' of no 'oil men' taking part in this no how - Jed done found it himself just as the story goes!
I have seen this episode on television probably at least 50 or 60 times. And I’ve seen it uncut on a few occasions. So I’m not quite sure why this is advertised as never seen on television. I can quote it. also, they did cut out a scene in this sample. Ellie Mae did not want to leave her critters and Jed had to talk to her, that’s why he said I have got the muleiest womenfolk.
Not the Ozarks. Tennessee has the Appalachians. Completely different mountains.
Nobody in Hollywood would know or care about the difference.

I've seen this version recently on Pluto free tv. I have tv on all night for background noise and Beverly Hillbillies is on every night for last 5 years. I'm 53 and this show and Andy Griffith are still my favorites .
I always wished Granny could be my grandmother. She was so funny.
