LOVE THIS! I wanted to make a brim on these Addi hats like I used to do with the simple round looms, but I couldn't figure out how to do it with the Addi! AND NOW I KNOW HOW! Thank you so very much! 😍🥰😘
Excellent tutorial. I learned so much more. I've just purchased 2 sizes but had trouble immediately with brim. The tips here are invaluable. Thank you for sharing.
ok i gotta admit. you are saving me with the idea at the last row. when you are casting off. i usually go all the way around then start using a needle to pick up stitches. heaven forbid i actually pull too rough on the yarn and extra stitches jump off. im in for a doozy but just advancing the machine a little bit to pick up a few stitches at a time. and keeping the rest securely on... seriously!? why didnt i think of that.! thanks so much! you have fantastic ideas. your rock!!
So happy I found this video...I love how yolanda takes her time to share step by step. Without talking your ears off...her video are always great. I am working on beanies for the homeless...
Good for you! Also me-I was crocheting beanies for a few different shelters and I love it-but it takes more time and more yarn than knitting. And knitted hats have move stretch so I think they fit more people. I like making an adult and child hat in coordination colors. Happy yarning!
great tutorial. thanks. I made one. I need to work on my tension when I am adding the fold, but otherwise, it came out nice. I love being able to do a single layer.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! Your explanation and tips are so helpful. I was searching for how to do this and I'm so glad I found your video!!
@@widerwoman - Yes w/ cons, but its worth it to understand what you're doing before spending $100.00 plus. I have the 40 needle w/out the counter. Red Heart is too thick. :-( Caron Simply Soft is great and weight below 4. Can't take your eyes off of it or you'll drop stitches.
Thank you very much for this. It is such a great tutorial and also different from the others that I have learnt from. I am expecting my knitting machine in the next few days. I will be sure to try it. Thank you again for this tutorial and GOD LOVES YOU TOO!
Thank you so much for making this video I'm sitting here telling myself there has to be a better way to make a brim on a hat and I know when actually using the hand Loom we fold the rim over and then bind it off. I'm like it could be done on the machine as well.🤔😁🙌 😇 Stay blessed.
That was my thinking also as making the brim on the hand loom was easy. However my hands/wrists no longer work well enough to use them. Thus the Addi and now I can start doing the same style of beanie, saving some yarn on each beanie to make even more for charity.
I did the same thing with my first Addi beanie. So I frogged it (rip it rip it rip it) and reused the yarn to try again. My second try worked well once I figured out that I only needed to pick up one piece of yarn, not 2, when casting off.
Finally! I knew you could have an easy pattern for this! Thank you! I bought a jamit knitting machine. To make hats for charity as well. Most patterns are for a double layer beanie. I was going to send my machine back until I saw your tutorial. I did 18 rows for the brim. 21 rows for the body of that hat.. seemed too slouchy, I might try 15 rows. I wish this was like crochet.. frog rows until you can get the length.
I just received my Addi, and love it. Thanks for this video, I really like brim you make. Thanks for showing the cast of so well , that’s been my hang up so for.
I had a problem using the crochet hook...big hands. Started using the plastic marker pins that click closed. I pick up each stitch, leaving pin open and then pick up each pin and place stitch on hook, slip pin off. Quick and easy and I can see each stitch easily. Love your pattern. Explained very well too.
This is a great technique and a very well done tutorial video, thank you so much! I was looking for a way to get neat finish on the hat brim, and this looks so good!
Best video on bringing up the ends for the brim I've ever seen!!!! I always messed it up and gave up trying a year ago. Easy to follow! Thank you so much!
My first one didn't come out either but i frogged it (rip it rip it rip it) as I wasn't going to toss that much yarn away. So even using the same yarn again to make one of the double beanies, it worked well.
I dont knit at all. 😂😂 I crochet until recently and now carpel tunnel is here. The addict in me bought the machine but I had no idea what to do.. thank you for the video!!
While practicing with it being my second day, I made one and it turned out great...for practicing..lol. I haven't grasped how to fix a dropped stitch yet, but the brim was perfect. Thank you.
I have a sentro, both addis and a generic . I cannot figure out how to take the stitches off when i am done. But i have knitted long enough that i know how stitches work so i just put the yarn to the inside, turn it until it comes off the machine and then thread my needle and pick up the stitches with it in my lap. Its easier for me that way, if any of them pull out, i pick them up with a crochet hook and thread the yarn through. It works fine for me that way.
You did a great job I’m happy I found this I was getting erked my edge kept rolling up this is a great solution to that thank you 😊 merry Christmas and God bless you
Thank you Yolanda for this excellent video. I hope your health is good. Can you please tell me if the Addi is made of plastic or metal and are its legs secured to the table with suction cups. Using waste yarn for the brim is a great idea. Mindy
I have an Addi and as far as I can tell, it's all plastic, but a heavy plastic that I'm sure will last me forever. It is held down to the table by 2 clamps that hook onto 2 of the feet and then clamp onto the table with wing nuts. Very easy to set up and use. I have it on a TV tray type table so that I can move it around wherever I want to. But it's also easy to remove from a larger table if desired.
Thank you for sharing. I also do folded brims on my Addi but I seem to have a problem picking up the stitches towards the end, The stitches get too tight towards the end and I am forced to sew up the last fewt stitches.
@@yolandasotolopez Thank you for your reply. Yes, I used a contrasting waste yarn at the beginning and I do exactly what is shown in the video. My problem is that the stitches get ţoo tight towards the end to slip over and I am forced to hand sew the last few stitches. Wonder what I'm doing wrong as it seems easy for you to slip all the stitches.
@@luanyee Only a suggestion here, are you unknowingly tightening the tension or perhaps you have picked up the wrong stitch when you start your brim? I haven't gotten as far as even starting the fold for the brim, but I remember that when I did the folded over brim with the hand looms, there were times that I picked up the wrong stitch and I had to frog it back to the mistake and try again...
The first ever time I tried a brimmed hat (following your instructions). I found it difficult to see which stitch to pick up first and which aligned exactly with the needle above. As a result the fabric started twisting and stretching. Would it be easier to put a small peg on the stitch so that I can be extra certain I am picking the corresponding and correct first stitch from the start? I’ve only had the Addi for one week! I so want to eventually make a poncho or a jumper but can’t seem to find a good step by step tutorial/pattern for these. Any suggestions where I can get a pattern for an adult poncho/jumper which caters for different sizes?
I have tried this twice now and both times I had stitches drop. I did it super slow so I'm wondering if I was putting the loop over after the working yarn went under...would that cuase the drop?
Hi, I also want to buy an Addi to do beanies for charity. Would you please tell me which Addi you have and if you recommend that Addi. Thankyou for a great tutorial. 😘
I have both the small one.. and the king addi. I do like them both.. the small one is only good for super small baby beanie.. for adults and children you'll need the king size one.
I just made this hate doing 30 rows for the brim then did the fold over and it came out perfect. Did 50 for the body. But when I put it on the hat was enormous meaning so wide. Do you think it’s because I used Caron pound and red heart stripes? I can’t figure out why it was so wide around.
Many hats seem to be made as slouchies, but I'm playing around with fewer rows to make a normal hat. I did 25 rounds like she did and my brim was about 1", and then did 50 rows (like she did). 5 rows is roughly 1 inch for me. If it's too wide, put a little more tension on your yarn. I only guide mine and it's fine. I practiced with Caron One Pounder.
I am having trouble with this. I am able to bring the edge up & attach it with no problem, all the while making sure my live feed is still knitting, just as you show. However, once I begin to continue to knit the remaining rows, every blessed one is falling off. This has happened twice. How can I remedy this? Tx.
For some reason whenever I finish the brim part, it connects, but then when I go around the stitches tend to drop. Not like normal drop because I know how to fix drop stitches that I can see but the double loops dont catch some way some how. I literally have done with 3 times and every time it happens. I am using the loops and threads machine. Instead of wasting the brim I just take it off and cast it onto my knitting needles and finish the hat hand knit but I bought this so I wouldn’t have to lol. I wish I knew what was going wrong. Maybe the thickness of the double stitches can catch or something.
