- This video shows you how to make a double brim knitting machine hat the EASY way. I have watched several videos that require you to double the brim while the hat is on the machine and I'm happy to tell you there's a much easier way! I show you how to assemble the hat and double your brim off the machine. I also show my trick for the easy way to add a removable faux fur pom pom.

I have a sentro machine, so I will do 35 rows for the body and 30 for the brim? For a regular beanie?
You can follow the same row counts as I show here for the Sentro. I wouldn’t change anything
Great video, thanks so much. I checked your blog instructions for the number of rows to knit for the small hat and did not see them listed. How many rows of the body and brim do you knit for the small size? TIA
I actually list the beanie row counts first (adult beanie in bold), then do row counts for santa hats in my blog post. Sorry it isn’t more clear 🤦🏻♀️
Hi there. Thank you for your tutorial on this. I'm struggling to make a beanie for myself with a head circumference of 56 cm or 22 inches. How many rows should I knit my beanie?
The rows are going to give you more length in your hat, but the real issue will be the circumference. I recommend being more generous with your tension when you are joining the band area at the end of the project. You could even chain one in between the stitches to give it more give. I hope that makes sense!
@DaysCrochet It makes perfect sense! Thank you for your reply 😊
Fun and easy pattern!
My crocheted slip stich to join the brim has no stretch at all. Is this to be expected? Or is there another crochet stitch that would have a similar stretch to the knitting?
Im thinking to try leaving a very long tail of brim color (at waste yarn change), then use the tail to do single or half double crochet to join (instead of slip stitch) thoughts?
@@glassslippergourmet that would work, yes!
@DaysCrochet thanks!!
Oh man do I love this!!! I just finished it! I used the Sentro 48 added 20 more rows to both and it came out perfect!! (I had sorta thick yarn). Thanks for the awesome pattern definitely gonna make a few more for Christmas parade we’ll be in soon 😩😂. ❤
If I have a sentro 48 needle so I follow the same or do I need to cut down on my rows?
I think it should just be slightly bigger. I can’t imagine it would make a huge difference, but if you find it’s too big I might would cut out 2-3 rows of the hat body
@@DaysCrochet thank you so much!
Since the whole hat isn't doubled over, when it's worn does it have larger holes?
I don’t believe so. I actually think single layer hats look better as far as stretch goes
Could you use Bernat velvet white yarn for brim
What’s your opinion of velvet yarn in machine?
Sure!
Velvet runs very smoothly in the machine. I like it
So I just made a Santa hat and the brim is tight. How can I get it to work for larger heads for my kids and spouse?
It is probably your tension. It cannot be too tight. I barely hold the yarn in my hand when I’m cranking
I love this, but when I slip stitched the brim it was NOT stretchy at all. What did I do wrong? It definitely doesn’t fit on my head because of the band of tight crochet at the top of the brim. Love the look though and sure there is an easy answer!
I would try going up a few hook sizes because it is very easy to make it too tight with the slip stitches
Thank you! Also I used the crochet hook I used last night when I was using DK … I’m using Aran tonight. Makes sense, my slip stitching last night was fine. Doh!! Thank you so much.
@@lisajbevan6162 you’re welcome! I’m happy to help ❤️
I love the Santa hat tutorial however, the finishing of the brim with slip stitch… it tends to tighten up the brim. It’s a little tight on my adult head… any solutions for that? Thank you!!
I would go up a few hook sizes and make sure to do it loosely. If worse comes to worse, maybe try chaining one in between the slip stitches to see if that helps
Ok thank you, I’ll try that. I would need to leave a long tail for working yarn.
I don’t have a addi machine, will your pattern work on a sentry knitting machine.
Yes it should work on the Sentro☺️
@@DaysCrochet thank you for your help
You know you able to be still on the knitting machine while you do a brim. I have done plenty. You don’t have to take off the machine then do the double brim. There some videos show you l. You do the color you want for the brim and then switch the color you want.
Yes, I am aware. I don't care for that method. But to each their own ☺️
How do you know how many rows?
I put the row counts at minute 1:15. Or are you asking me how I decided on those row counts?
