I think you should make a pendant with her shed for Steve's mom.
Awe that would be so sweet!
Praying Emily sees this
Boosting this!!!
They hearted it! And yes! That’s such an awesome idea!
This would be such a sweet idea! And if it's multiple smaller pieces of shed it will still look amazing in a pendant!
She looks beautiful and healthy, her original enclosure looks big and taken care of- you can tell she was very well loved by her previous owner. I’m sorry for the family’s loss of their son. Rest in peace man, SnakeDiscovery will take good care of your baby.
yes
very nice. came here to say the same. I love how they honor his pet.
her original enclosure was the minimum for a gila monster, they are solitary and should be kept alone.
She is very cute. As emily was throwing the ecoearth down off the shelf I half expected the packets to burst open and make a huge mess.😅
Omg I didn't even think of that 😂 I guess is a good test of their packaging!
I was fully expecting it and for it to be awkward in the most funny way possible
I really expected to see an explosion of substrate burst up when she threw them down. Anyone else and it would've been a disaster. 😂
I also expected a huge mess!!! But the packaging seems to be a good quality!
I thought the exact same thing waiting for Emily to look down and shout oh no 😂
My condolences to Steve's family (Stevie's previous owner) for their loss. Your son did an immaculate job raising such a beautiful and healthy Gila Monster, and I can only bet he treated all other animals (and humans) with such love and care. Thank you for trusting Snake Discovery (and their audience) to watch over this little girl as I know that may feel tough, and really I hope your family gets through this difficult time. Many virtual hugs and prayers
Yes Stevie looks so beautiful and healthy, clearly very well taken care of, rip to Steve.
You can tell Stevie was well loved. Nice enclosure and she's clearly used to being handled
I hope they see my comment and agree that her fun name should be Stevie Flicks since as a venomous creature she is a pleanty witchy woman who flicks her tongue
@@ConstantChaos1 lol. That's adorable.
@@Kronkgirl ikr it's so fitting
@Kronkgirl it would be perfect if it turns out Steve liked Stevie (and I mean who doesn't at least know who she is, she gets sampled from all generas from drag-rap to folk)
If Stevie had to go anywhere in the world I'm SURE Steve would be happy it's snake discovery
I'm sure he'd be happy to know that she's safe and sound with Emily and Ed. I wonder if he was a fan!
As an Arizonan, it's so wild to see one of these in captivity. Beautiful creatures but man oh man we preach to never approach or touch them, and the wild ones are often mean as hell.
And have a horribly painful bite. Aren't they venomous?
@@brigidtheirish yep, their saliva, and they chew it into the flesh
@@Tucsonwolfman *Ouch!*
YES!!! (Arizonan here too) gosh they are STUNNING animals but need LOTS of space, and for many good reasons!!
@@Tucsonwolfman Oh god, that's even worse than the spider bite I had once that made my whole foot swell up to the point that it hurt to even walk. I mean you're talking puncture and bleeding and pain and venom. I'd rather be sent to the hospital for a venomous snakebite than to be bit by a Gila Monster.
It’s clear that Stevie was loved and cared for. Rest In Peace Steve, you can be sure that she’ll receive the best of care at Snake Discovery
I just had my mother die, and we had to adopt her pitbull and betta fish overnight. Trust me when I say, even if the animals don't express it, they are INCREDIBLY happy to have a new home, even if they may miss their old one. A death is hard on them too, but it's a little easier when they have people who love them around.
I’m so so sorry for your loss ❤
I love that you called her Stevie in honour of her previous owner Steve may he rest in peace. What a lovely thing to do ❤
lizard doggo (desert variant)
Stats:
Health: 200
Attack Dps: 700
Stealth: 10
Speed: 15
Mobility: 20
Level: Expert
The desert variant of the lizard doggo is classified as a rare Pokémon, normally only found deep within the deserts of Arizona. Although they look weak and slow, (and they kinda are…) they use a deadly venom to neutralize their prey. This “Venom Blast” attack is their main attack an deals 700 dps. This attack can be easily countered with worker gloves, crafted with 6 wool and 1 rubber lining. This Pokémon is only for experienced owners, but when trained is a lovely pet, and a good friend
Your always so kinda caring and selfless to animals that need help. I wish there’s more people like you. May the your friend rest easy now knowing your helping
I'm sorry Stevies previous human passed away, but I'm glad you are there to give her a new loving home. It's always wonderful to hear you talk about reptiles; you can tell you care A LOT about all the animals who come under your care.
Stevie is adorable, by the way! She's such a beautiful colour, and seems very happy in her new home. I hope she gets on well with Sheila.
Watching your videos makes me want to keep reptiles but as a rat owner, that's not really a possibility right now. Maybe one day.
Also, I'm getting one of those necklace kits! 😍
I have rats, mice, guinea pigs and reptiles (with and without legs lol). It's definitely possible if you have the time, space, knowledge, etc such as ALWAYS cleaning your hands between handling the rats and reptiles so you don't get a food response bite.
@@kerseykrewzoo fellow rat owner here!! Ideally I'd have snakes one day, but currently I can't do it because it would usually require handling dead rats or mice, and it would remind me too much of my babies 😭😭
@@realname6857 I totally understand that. I've found that I have to put my brain into a different mindset when dealing with the snake food aspect, especially with the smaller rats as most of my snakes are on "rat pup/crawler" sizes and those are my favorite stages of life for them. Plus, my adults keep making friggin' gorgeous babies with unique markings. This is one reason I've been thinking of selling some for pets if I can find enough interest in my area. I handle all the rats pretty frequently and provide enrichment and climbing opportunities and my main group of 6 adults (the only group as I've just started on the rat owning/breeding path) is in a 3 feet long by 2 feet wide by 4 feet tall barred enclosure and I intend on purchasing/building more cages and/or an extention for the current cage when I can.
First off prayer to the family who lost their son and clearly he loved his pet. Glad the family got in touch with snake discovery to get her a new home. Loved this video and keep up the good work as always.
It's nice to see someone else who find lizards adorable, because they absolutely can be and are! And it's pretty clear Stevie was loved by her previous owner! Naming her Stevie is a great tribute! Gila monsters are named after the Gila River. The word Gila is a Spanish contraction of Hah-quah-sa-eel, a Yuma word meaning "running water which is salty". Their genus is Heloderma which means "studded skin" and their species name is suspectum, and this is because when it was first described by paleontologist Edward Drinker Cope, who originally thought it was just a northern variation of the Mexican beaded lizard, he suspected that the lizard might be venomous due to the grooves in the teeth. Which of course, he was right.
There are five beaded lizards in the Heloderma genus. The Chiapan, Mexican, and Rio Fuerte beaded lizards are found in Mexico, while the Motagua Valley beaded lizard is found only in southeastern Guatemala. These Gila monsters are definitely the most incredible lizards in the US as they are not only venomous, but also the largest lizards in the country as they can measure up to about 22 inches (56 centimeters) in total length. The colorful, beadlike skin of the gila monster helps with camouflage. Its claws are used for digging burrows and for digging out other animals' eggs.
Native to my home state! These guys are so elusive most folks in AZ have never seen one aside from zoos or rehabs. I got crazy lucky years back, was up real early one morning it was still relatively cool outside. Just a ways past my house, since I lived in a very rural area, I saw a Gila Monster making his way back under a rock. Unmistakable! They are so gorgeous and have that cute puppy dog lizard face❤
She seems so friendly, it looks like her old owner spent a lot of time socializing her. Bless his family, I hope knowing his pet has the absolute best home.and through Stevie Steve's love of reptiles will be shared with so many.
RIP Steve,
Thank you so much for Steve's family that, even though they were going through the worst kind of grief, they still took into consideration the animals, who also lost their everything when they lost their son/brother.
they're so cute. Those eyes would lull me into a false sense of security when handling I think
She's adorable! And she looks really well taken care of, so sad to hear her previous owner passed away. I'm sure he'd be glad to know his pet will continue to be well taken care of. My condolences to the family.
Nearly 8k views in 30 minutes is crazy for a Reptile channel. You guys really are one of the biggest in the genre
Love seeing Emily fangirl over Stevie lol
Gosh that hiss made me jump! Stevie's so sassy! What a gorgeous girl though!
I hope wherever original owner Steve is he can take comfort in knowing his precious pet is well taken care of, in one of the best homes I can imagine. Big condolences to Steve's family.
Ed is very correct when he says Arizona doesn't know humidity..... except during monsoon season. Twoish months of dying and then back to a dry heat!
Yeah I was just gonna mention that. Maybe they could simulate monsoon season by misting the enclosure about once a week during August and September, then not misting for the rest of the year? Idk I'm not sure how that would affect her
I'm sure Steve would be pleased to know you're taking such good care of his Gila. I hope this was a small help to his family and comforted them a little, taking over this care and giving them one less thing to worry about, knowing she's in good hands. Please pass on our condolences to that family.
Just got my first reptile! It’s a male Leo named theo! He’s so cute and is set up with all stuff from you guys!
do you call him Theodore when he’s in trouble? hehe
@@itsdragoninawagon not yet at least
Congrats !!
my friend has a ball python named theo!!
Theo the Leo. I love it!❤
Oh Stevie is so pretty, she was clearly loved very much and very well taken care of
I hope her old enclosure is also being put to good use as it a very good size 😀
was anyone else waiting for one of the eco earth bags to pop at 4:39? 😂
Sheila and Stevie - such a cute name! Glad she landed with you, even though it's under sad circumstances. 💜💜 Sending love to the family.
The Gila monster is definitely not something you'd want to mess with in the wild! The Gila monster produces venom in modified salivary glands at the end of its lower jaws, unlike snakes, whose venom is produced in glands behind the eyes. Four potentially lethal toxins have been isolated from the Gila monster's venom, which cause hemorrhage in internal organs and exophthalmos (bulging of the eyes), and helothermine, which causes lethargy, partial paralysis of the limbs, and hypothermia in rats. Coyote Peterson described the bite as "like hot lava coursing through your veins" and claimed it was the worst pain he had ever experienced. It is generally regarded as the most painful venom produced by any vertebrate.
On May 8, 1890, southeast of Tucson, Arizona Territory, Empire Ranch owner Walter Vail captured and thought he had killed a Gila monster. He tied it to his saddle and it bit the middle finger of his right hand and would not let go. A ranch hand pried open the lizard's mouth with a pocket knife, cut open his finger to stimulate bleeding, and then tied saddle strings around his finger and wrist. They summoned Dr. John C. Handy of Tucson, who took Vail back to Tucson for treatment, but Vail experienced swollen and bleeding glands in his throat for sometime afterward
Oh, so never hold a baby Gila or a baby sidewinder... 😱😱😱 I'm happy that I am still alive
The fact that there are lethal toxins in it's venom doesn't mean it's actually deadly. Apples also contain the lethal toxin Cyanide, but you don't see people dropping dead when they eat them. The venom is extremely painful, but you won't be in serious danger. As far as I know, there have been no confirmed deaths caused by the venom.
yoooooo kim jong ding dong
Nice! Sheila will be happy to have a friend! 😃 Welcome to the Snake Discovery family, Stevie!
Idk but all the tongue flicking she was doing when she was put back in her quarentine enclosure looked pretty enthusiastic to me. Like she's freaked but also ALL THESE SMELLS IMMA EXPLORE EVERRYTHANG
I can't get past the shed.
Also, R.I.P. Steve. Sounded like a great guy.
Hi, I am a big fan of all of this your snake. I love your videos they’re so cool. You guys are so cool. I love your new lizard 🦎 she’s so cute
Calling her Stevie just made me tear up. What a great memorial.
A sad story, and it highlights the need to have some sort of provision in place if the worst happens. I am so glad that you were able to step in and Stevie didn't end up dumped or at a shelter that wouldn't know how to care for her.
Stevie is one super chill gila monster! Steve did a great job with her. So fortunate she ended up landing with you guys.
She’s stunning! Gillas are so underrated she’s deffo going to be in good hands with you guys!
fav lizard as a young child ❤
It's so great that the warehouse can have a secondary purpose - quarantine building!
Hello valerie, how're you doing today?
Aweeeeee so cuteee! I really love how u saved me from a fear of snakes
Wait…. I was first?
No the other comments don’t load right away sorry
@@ethanlogan6435 I don’t mind that
Aww, she's cute! She must have been handled a lot by her previous owner because she seems so friendly.
Omigosh I love her! She seems like such a chill gila! She must have been well socialized by her late owner. Im glad Snake Discovery can give little Stevie the best life after losing OG Steve.
Blessings to Steve's family, and thank you for taking Stevie in! 💜
if shes that handleable while in blue for shed, she must be a very chill lil girlie:)
I love how Emily does a puppy talk with the Gila monster 😂
Cute little scaly danger puppy. It's sad she lost her human, but now she gets a new friend that's her own species, and see so many more humans!
This video gave me all the feels. Thank you for doing everything you do and welcome to the family Stevie ♥️
As an Arizonan, this was very much appreciated! My 7th grade science teacher actually kept one in his class, so this was a weirdly cathartic video to watch. He has since retired, but he loved all reptiles and taught me a lot about them :^))
Edit: grammar
Rest in Peace papa Steve. Baby Steve looks healthy. I'm glad you're giving her a good life, her papa would be happy.
I love the way you guys talk to your reptiles.
Aww, she's amazingly cute!
Emily, you and Ed are truly stand up human beings. I’m not a parent but I can only imagine how much something as simple as naming their sons pet his name and taking him in was to them.
If you do get enough shed skin for a pendant maybe Steve's family would like it
You guys Crack me up, and so do Haui, Ally, and Rex!!!!!! I've watched so many channels that the content gets old, but yours never does because of you goofy and creative personalities!!!!! Love you guys!!!! ❤❤❤
She is so pretty ❤
We had a mated pair of these lovely creatures roaming our property in AZ with their offspring (not our pets, completely wild) along with dozens of lil 🐢, absolutely amazing to watch them and build a bond with them over the years until they were basically part of our pet-family 🐈🐈⬛🦎🐕🐢🐦🦉🐦⬛🐇🦌
"The four foot and the--hold up a finger--SIX FOOT!" LOL the enclosures look amazing! Stevie looks very well cared for. I wish you guys could've met Steve too. My condolences to his family and to Stevie, may Steve rest in peace knowing Stevie will be just as well cared for in her new home.
So cute! ❤
Thank you for all you do!! With glitches galor, you saved a beautiful scaley baby. Thanks from the entire planet!!!!
Hello there!!! How're you doing??
She is pretty. I thought they get bigger than she is.
I am happy that you got her.
She is so adorable!
After watching all of you videos I decided to get my first snake Sunday. She’s a two month old conda hognose named Artemis.
Rest in piece Steve.
Your legacy will live on In your Gila monster!
When I saw you grab just 2 bags of eco earth I went "that'll never be enough" 😂 My bullsnake is about to move into his 6x2x3 forever home and I was surprised how much substrate you need(it's bioactive though so I'll only have to spot clean or it would get expensive quickly!)
Stevie is such a friendly one~ I hope that she enjoys living at the new place~👍
Thank you for sharing this video~🤗
U guys are so sweet! Your emotion and excitement is so contagious!!! Thanks for all u do!!! ❤from North Carolina.
She’s so cute!
"No pick up, only hold!" My beardie is the same way lol
The only pet I've had is a dog, and like 30-ish fish.
But I definitely think I would absolutely love to decorate a reptile enclosure, if I had to pick a reptile to have, I would probably pick a tell or a snake :) also I love seeing what's been new with y'all and y'all are the reason of that im really into reptiles! I hope yall and the reptiles are doing ok!
1:40 This reminds me of the time I worked at a wildlife shelter, and the people who did the pickups (from a different company) were notoriously bad with species names and they called ahead that they were coming to us with a very big pigeon that was injured. So I was told to set up a pigeon enclosure. When they finally arrived at the very end of our shift with the "very big pigeon" they carried in a Great black-backed gull (Larus marinus) (basically a good-sized gull species) and we were all just staring trying to figure out how it could have been mistaken for a pigeon XD That was an impressive mess up, even for them. Don't worry though, we all rushed off after that to give it treatment, a bigger enclosure and proper food, and the gull made a full recovery.
I just found (and safely relocated) my first wild Gila Monster yesterday! These guys are awesome, and really rare in my neck of the woods aka SW Utah 😁
In June at a Snake Discovery meet and greet (in Wisconsin) I got to hold Doug! He's literally so sweet 😭 I also got to hold Banana and it was so much fun!
What a beautiful little dragon with such a nice home, take good care of her.
I hope ya'll see this😂😅I just want to let you know every day before nap time. My two-year-old son insists I watch Emily and Ed before he goes to sleep.❤
I bought two 4x2x2 Evolution enclosures from them and I absolutely love them. Super well made and very easy to assemble. My 2 Ball Pythons love them!!
🐍❤️🐍
Awesome!!! Love this
Very sad his owner passed away though
Great setup for Stevie. She seems appreciative!
Look how far you two have come. Snake breeding, warehouse, zoo
I kept mishearing 'humid hide' as 'human hide' and for a second I was thinking "Why would she want human skin? Why do you have human skin to offer her?'
I misheard it the same, (until the last time), though I did not misunderstand the hide part, but I thought, probably some brand making products for the HUMAN(e) care taker of those reptiles with that little bit extra (be it venom or special needs).
Condolences to Steve's family, and know, she will be taken very well care of while honoring him
My gosh, Gila Monsters are so cool. The Gile Monsters at my local zoo are possibly having eggs because last time I went there was an egg box in their enclosure. We have 3-4 Gila Monsters at the zoo.
I USED TO WATCH YOUR VIDEOS EVERYDAY AS A KID AND I LOVED SNAKES AND I STILL DO THNAKS TO YOU
Wow,she's beautiful. I'm glad she has a new home.
Hey, I don’t know if you’ll ever read this but I got a corn snake that I’ve been keeping in a 40 gallon tank. I think all the tanks you guys make are super cool and I would like to make one like it. If you have any advice for me please let me know in the comments! Anyone who’s sees this and would like to help I would gladly appreciate it!
My condolences to the family for losing their son, I love that you named her Stevey I think it's very precious and I think his family would be very happy about it too.
Im so happy at least the lizard has a happy ending. I send good vibes and love to the family
I love how much effort and care you put in to learning about your individual animal’s preferences. It gives me a lot of great ideas for my own critters!
Aw shes beautiful. Im sorry to the family who lost their loved one ❤
Your so kind and caring when animals need help
yay!!
Beautiful Gila!! I love the high Pink/Orange
Ohhhh im in love. I live in Arizona amd i gotta say, i havent seen one of these dudes in like 10 years.
"They don't have humidity in Arizona" as someone from Arizona I can confirm
Stevie's new enclosure reminds me of Tattooine from Starwars lol
Hi Emily, and Ed. Stevie is beautiful. I am so glad that Steve's family contacted you, so you could give that Gila Monster a loving home . Prayers to the family for the loss of her son Steve. You can tell that he really cared for and loved his Gila. You can give his mom updates on stevie. Yes I agree to make her a necklace with some shed skin would be an excellent idea. Stevie seems very friendly. Emily how did you get up on that high shelf😅. Glad that the bags of eco earth did not burst open on the floor. I think that Ed really likes Stevie to. Excellent temporary enclosure. Very nicely decorated.❤Your zoo, and all of your reptiles. Cindy from Florida
I cried. Don't worry, we will love your baby, Steve. And you will live on through Stevie.
Juliettealexander8537 had a great idea: you should make a pendant of Stevie's shed and give it to Steve's mom. OMG, i cried again after reading that comment.
Aww, Stevie's previous owner clearly did a wonderful job with her. She's very friendly and looks very healthy ❤
