Now, the question is: will we see "N" performance variants with cool new colours and bodylines, and of course an unlocked computer pushing 600hp? I hope so.
Hyundai is looking at what the other manufacturers are doing and asking, why do we do it that way? Why is that the norm? And then doing the opposite. If they’re bold enough to step so far away from normal design, it can only make you excited for what they have yet to come. In a time where old school companies are making boring electric cars, regardless of whether you like this design, can’t we get behind someone who’s trying to make the space more interesting?
They’re looking at other manufacturers and asking, what can we copy? What design ideas can we steal? Let’s copy Porsche rear, Tesla front, EQS side profile. Love it!

That is one seriously cool looking car. Hyundai and Kia seem to be setting the design standards that others must follow when it comes to EVs. There is nothing quite like them and they are bold in the design to make their mark and I'd expect they will see that rewarded in the show rooms
MICHAEL COLE: I totally agree. When a new design is released that is very different from current trends, it is always in danger of looking odd or quirky. Hyundai in particular seem to be able to release clean, fresh, new designs that are very desirable, and difficult to fault.
People will like this because they know it will be cheap. It’s weird looking, front doesn’t match the rear. It’s like they mashed an EQS with a porsche and not in a good way
Every year, the hyundai brand comes across with incredibly beautiful, sympathetic cars with beautiful designs. I personally like their designs, this time the model has a sweet-looking design with very soft lines. Also, as in the ioniq 5, the front design reminds the of the old Tuscani models.
I'm really loving the new Hyundai's 👍👍 This one has a hint of the old classics. More than a hint of Citroen DS & Sabb 900 Turbo. Love it!! Ionic 5 reminds me of the Lancia Delta. Again, love it 👍👍
What a nice looking and inspired design. Thank you H for not making it look anything like the last generation of your cars. While they were "ok" they were somehow both dated and unnecessarily space-age. This Ioniq has some very sensual lines and is classy. And, Rory, this was possibly the finest car review I have ever seen, as you were wonderfully positive, concise, knowledgeable, and very personable as you described and compared the features and the vehicle itself. Well done, sir. I will look for your other reviews in the future.
Absolutely crazy what they did here. Really reminds me of Japanese cars in the way they did things very different and a little weird in design and function. This is exactly what the modern car world needs. Great car and great direction the company is taking. Love it!
Loving it. Having owned six Teslas so far, this is the first hint of real competition for the 3 and Y, in my view. Mercedes, Porsche and maybe Lucid have provided alternatives to the Tesla Model S, but not head-to-head competition. I think many people will cross shop this car with the smaller Teslas. The looks of the Ioniq 6 are striking. 30 years or so ago I had a 911, and the roof to rear lines of this car really do a great job reprising that vibe. I also see some early '70s Z-car (Datsun, now Nissan) influence in some of the front angles. I predict huge success for this model. I have been a Hyundai and Kia supporter since 2011 and in general have been very impressed by their design and engineering since that model year.

Great presentation and the car looks really good. It'll stand out for a time on the road. And to me this shows why sedans are always better looking than SUVs/crossovers.
Just to put this into perspective. Here in Seattle right now, in a city with a bit of a name for tech there is precisely one (1) Ionic 5 for sale amongst the six dealers in the area. The price is not listed, it is available upon request. The PHEV Tuscon Limited has a $10,000 'market adjustment' tacked onto the sale price. Even the Hybrid Tuscon is carrying a $5,000 dealer markup across the entire linup. Just as a counterpoint the ICE Tuscon Limited currently has a $350 discount. I'll be interested in EVs when these things are a, available and b, affordable.
Looks good, wish looked more like the Prophecy, something like the older Hyundai coupe from the front with an old 911 from the 80's inspiration at the rear with matrix lights. Being an Ioniq5 owner I can see a lot of the same parts on the dash including the metal surround for the screens and lever switch gear. I am excited about the future of the brand just now.
Yo bruv I love you and I love your body of work. It's my very first time critiquing your work and I do not believe it's just because I agree with you that the Ioniq 6 is a cool yet affordable smart vehicle, but also because you're good at what you do.
Hyundai is very clever.. the 4 dots in the steering wheel show the charge level.. but also 4 dots in Morse code is H.. and that's what's usually there on their steering wheels.. 🤯
Yes. Even though Hyundai is not my first choice, they are on the right track to create more interesting EVs that are not the basic, hateful SUV type. So yes please, more of this and if the design inspiration comes from the 40s, what's not to like? 😊
I haven't seen anyone open the trunk yet. Is it a hatchback? Or does it have a tiny trunk lid? Did they manage to make a bunch of space in the teardrop tail back there, or is the trunk small? I really want to see this as a family road tourer for those who don't want an SUV.
Finally, another electric car as a sedan!!!! Mercedes, Tesla, Audi, BMW, Lucid, Porsche and now Hyundai are getting into it! It's time we start Shaming these horrible SUVs and prove to people we need the sedan back! I really hope the price is good at it goes on sale in the UK!

Nope, tesla&byd own the world wide ev market and it ain't even CLOSE. 😀 The Koreans are coming into their own though. Vw, ford, gm merc and BMW better all watch their sixes though. 👍🏻
Very easy on the eyes, gives Porsche vibes from the rear. I love the overall car more than the Ioniq 5 as more of a daily driver, but I think the Ioniq 5 makes for a better all-around family car.
Love the look of it but can we stop with the rear view cameras trend? There’s no advantage to these apart from a tiny reduction in drag. A tiny screen is nowhere near as useful as a proper mirror that provides depth perception for approaching traffic
Some rear view cameras have better picture quality as night than the human eye and can essentially eliminate bind spots. I’m all for it. But I think having the choice to opt out is key
Not loving it. Feels like all of the design elements are fighting against each other. While Tesla takes it too far, seems Hyundai aren't applying any exterior consistency between their designs at all.
This is literally intentional. See their marketing. I love it. Breaking free from having to have all cars looks the same. This was the mistake Tesla made. The S is a classic. Every other car they've tried to play off the S and are ugly as hell... sure, people buy them but an absolute design failure.
What Kia and Hyundai are doing past years is just amazing... Top notch designers. Only thing what I would change is to put one big screen instead of 2 as for the dashboard, because that delimiter looks silly to me.
Chrisp, intelligent review. Well done. Hyundai/Kia hits another design home run. I think this manufacturer is at the forefront of automotive design. Nobody else in my opinion is getting it this right .

I'm hoping the Prophecy comes out as a Genesis.
@@julioibarra7156 That would be amazing :-D I think they may build a Genesis on the same platform as this. I'd love one with the same sloping design as the Prophecy. Fingers crossed 🤞
This will look perfect next to my arctic silver 996 turbo. It looks like what a sleeker new 911 electric should look like :)
Great presentation and the car looks really good. It'll stand out for a time on the road. And to me this shows why sedans are always better looking than SUVs/crossovers.
Thanks for the review and providing clear distinctions between the 5 and the 6. God bless.
I’d would pre-order a coupe version of this in a heartbeat
Looks amazing, love the new EV renaissance
Looks so much cooler than the Merc EQE, love it!
Looks great. Very reminiscent of the Citroen DS.
Now they really need to redesign their badge to match the design of the cars
Excellent presentation, I learned so much! Thanks
Love this car. Had my Ioniq 6 for 6 months. My first EV and Hyundai. It’s great
The front has elements of the Toyota celica and Sony vision S concept. The back has elements of the Porsche and beetle.
Yes. Even though Hyundai is not my first choice, they are on the right track to create more interesting EVs that are not the basic, hateful SUV type. So yes please, more of this and if the design inspiration comes from the 40s, what's not to like? 😊
Great review as ever 👍 loving that design
It needs those spoilers to reduce the lift created by the sloping roof line.
There's also the Polestar 2 which is really a sedan as well. A liftback sedan. And the Polestar 5 is coming in 2024.
@@benjaminsmith2287 maybe, but I'm not a fan of liftback higher models as much as people still class them as SUV like cars. But yes, polestar does have a new one on the way
@@josephmarsh8235 When I test drove it it didn't feel high up. It drove like a sporty sedan and it has a firm ride. I didn't drive the performance pack model. The Polestar 5 is going to be very expensive so the 2 is the one that is within the means of most people.
I'm excited by the Ioniq 6. It has a lot of style. It's a sedan. And the more EV sedans made the better. Maybe some hot hatches will follow. Hopefully.
I’m seeing Panamera and CLS influences here. Overall a lovely looking car. Hyundai really kicking goals with the Ioniq range.
Rory’s reviews are always sensational!
It's got the silhouette of the old CLS,
The rear of an old 911.
I think it works, I love the simplicity.
Thanks for the great video. The four dots on the streering wheel is acutally a morse code. 4 dots stands for the letter "H" like Hyundai. Just for your information.
I absolutely love the smooth flowing design. All the hard looking lines on the 5 just wasn't cutting it for me.
It will be interesting to see the battery range.
I charge my EV at home and the max I’d ever go is 150km in a day so a long range isn’t a concern to me.
Hyundai and Kia are quietly dominating the EV market.
Nope, tesla&byd own the world wide ev market and it ain't even CLOSE. 😀
The Koreans are coming into their own though. Vw, ford, gm merc and BMW better all watch their sixes though. 👍🏻
Hyundai is not really committed to ramp up their electric ⚡️ cars. Tesla and byd are going to the moon 🌙
@@corneluscedric2690 Teslas literally fall apart
Wish it looked more like the prophecy concept. I think this car would look better with smaller wheels.
It's opposite, bigger the wheels better the car looks. See any Porsche, merc s class, myback, rolls Royce, any hypercar.
I have been eyeing this beauty in parking lots. IONIQ has such a sleek yet sturdy look :D
I hope they later make a sleeker coupe version like that prometheus concept although it was also a 4 door
Porsche called they want their 911 rear end back
Hyundai continuing to steal designs, what's new?
Very easy on the eyes, gives Porsche vibes from the rear. I love the overall car more than the Ioniq 5 as more of a daily driver, but I think the Ioniq 5 makes for a better all-around family car.
Love the look of it but can we stop with the rear view cameras trend? There’s no advantage to these apart from a tiny reduction in drag. A tiny screen is nowhere near as useful as a proper mirror that provides depth perception for approaching traffic
I don't think they're even legal in the US (yet). That is, it's illegal to not have side mirrors--a car could have both, but why would it?
Some rear view cameras have better picture quality as night than the human eye and can essentially eliminate bind spots. I’m all for it. But I think having the choice to opt out is key
The drag reduction is not tiny. Especially in an EV where every bit of range matters.
@5:10 The 4 dots in the steering is Morse code for 'H' or the Hyundai logo
5:08 Actually its also an indirect Hyundai-Logo. 4 dots in morsecode stand for the letter "H" ;-)
Porsche / lambo - esque front design 👍
Not loving it. Feels like all of the design elements are fighting against each other. While Tesla takes it too far, seems Hyundai aren't applying any exterior consistency between their designs at all.
At least it's better than a SUV
Thank you, I though that I was the only one who find this car hideous.
The host has been paid to talk so nicely about that car 🚙
@@corneluscedric2690 that’s because Hyundai executives or some PR are just in the corner when they’re filming those studio videos lol
This is literally intentional. See their marketing. I love it. Breaking free from having to have all cars looks the same. This was the mistake Tesla made. The S is a classic. Every other car they've tried to play off the S and are ugly as hell... sure, people buy them but an absolute design failure.
That is a good thing, like the 50s when every car was bold and different....consistency is the harbinger of mundanity.
Rory your reviews are the best out there. Thank you and keep up the great work
What Kia and Hyundai are doing past years is just amazing...
Beautiful but the price is gonna be horrible I'm sure
i’m usually super open to weird and bold designs but i don’t really like this, the shapes just don’t go together imo mainly on the front end
As an owner of an IONIQ 5, I am stunned at how Hyundai is suddenly putting itself on the map for EVs. Great designs, great price etc. This looks like something Porsche would make
Or Mercedes
Good to see something that's not another SUV. Looks like it will be a very efficient vehicle too.
Very cool, reminds a bit of both SAAB, Porsche and MB CLS. Great video!
