A little story of why this song has so many memories for me. Gulf War II, went to Saudi Arabia in support, first tour, didn't know what to expect. Made some Mini Discs to take with me. Never had time to label them. First day there, picked a random mini disc and selected random on my player. This came on!!! Biggest case of irony i'll ever experience i reckon!
If anyone ever ask me if I a Blur or Oasis. I say none it's Ocean Colour Scene all the way. They may be a underrated band but to me I loved them in the 90s. Still do now
Epic band with awesome lyrics :) Seen them live soooo many times with that special peep...The best concert was free @ The Royal Albert Hall 7yrs ago ,with the bonus EPICS Noel & Liam Gallagher(Oasis) & A SUPER BONUS Paul Weller all on 1 stage singing twas the best nite of my life
Its pathetic that I am to add to this comment in 2020. We could possibly be on the brink of war with China. We are taught to pay attention to our history or we may be doomed to repeat it. Sadly we've done so and we are still making the same mistakes over and over again. Humanity will never learn so we are doomed to a path of self destruction. Now that's a fight were nobody wins.
the 1st gig i ever went to was OCS at the london astoria... FUCKING BRILLIANT! a little known band called coldplay were supporting them. did alot of xtc listening to this album!!! take me back to the nineties!!!!!!!
Gave me laugh when i was so apprehensive! Love OCS. Loved seeing them at the Manchester Apollo just opver a year ago. Had a lump in my throat all through it and was fortunate enough to be sharing the experience with two of my best mates who are in Afghan as we speak! Box, Gav, Luv Ya brothers!
saw them at the Lighthouse in Poole two years ago, they were just great, and it was Chris's birthday, they just had a great time themselves. Love this group
I think Simon Fowler is a brilliant singer. He sang this song at a Charity function a few weeks ago in Solihull, at a pub, near where he grew up as a boy.
@ra83clement I totally 100% agree with your sentiment!!! Along with Gilbert O'Sullivan and Eva Cassidy - Ocean Colour Scene are the band that were NEVER appreciated in their time!! I'm going to see them in a few weeks in Leamington - absolutely can not wait!!
Love love love OCS and this is one of my favourite songs of theirs. So true and such lovely words. I know it's cheesy and cliched but this video would have worked well with kids singing it. xx
ive seen these lads twice in glasgow and each time they were top of the fucking pops.they are better live believe me.buy a ticket to see them coz IT DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN.amazing band very very underrated.
had this cd as anglofile swede . Good tunes are good tunes , saw u sheff guys at Klubben and got backstage high as a kite . i will never forget the drummer givvin us the thumb when we was doing shit at the bar ... ill recon this to be 1998ish ............. fuck ye OCS is 3rd after Stone Roses and Beatles
All the people under broken homes Don't wanna fight no more All the people nursing shattered bones Don't wanna fight no more But there's no profit in peace So we've gotta fight some more nice occ song ¡¡¡
Ive had this song in my head for a long time and finally found out who originally recorded it The lyrics seem to sum up the decade of the noughties perfectly. @19doc78 what about THERAPY? ?
what an interesting concept to flip.. how to make peace, profitable? hmm.. I am going to fool with that picture, and dream about what that looks like, flavorwise. nice.
Yes, you're not the only one watching this in October 2023 thinking it's more appropriate than ever.
Watching Oct 24 … Middle East seeming very close to all out war ! Frightening times
Never got the recognition they deserved, underrated band of the 90's
100 percent
Agreed
Without a doubt
Not everybody succeeds in life.
Totally especially when mosley shoals is probably one of the best albums of the 90s
Radio stations should play this song every day
Took me 20 year to listen to this again after losing my best mate..
Man it hits hard....
What a song, what a band x
What a fantastic tribute song to your mate x timeless
I'm sure your mate is happy that you can listen to this again and enjoy ❤️

Never been a better time to get this back to Number 1! This world needs another John Lennon figure, lets get this song trending!!! 🕊🕊🕊
The sad thing about this song is that it's more appropriate now than when it was originally released.
+Lucas Davis And even more so as I'm reading this now.

@19doc78 what about THERAPY? ?
This song was on the radio when my daughter was born
Paul weller was my main man from 76 till now. But ocs have produced much better quality tunes.
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
"But there's no profit in peace boys so we must fight some more"
what an interesting concept to flip.. how to make peace, profitable? hmm.. I am going to fool with that picture, and dream about what that looks like, flavorwise. nice.
