In this video I share with you how to make cold process aloe vera soap with fresh + homemade aloe gel. Thank you for watching!
This aloe vera soap recipe uses a 6% superfat & 35% lye concentration. The lye amount has been adjusted for 2% citric acid.
    Step by step:
Step 1 - make the aloe vera gel
Step 2 - make the natural green colorant
Step 3 - measure the oils
Step 4 - make the citric acid solution
Step 5 - prepare the essential oils
Step 6 - make the aloe vera lye solution
Step 7 - make the soap
🟢Learn to formulate your own customized soap recipes here: www.tellervo.fi/shop/p/the-so...
    🟢Citric acid information:
When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
How much citric acid should be added to soap?
Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
    How to use citric acid
Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

This is sooo amazing! We get LOTS of dandelions in the spring and early summer here in southeastern NC in the states. The first time I learned that there were many benefits from this plant was about 2 years ago when I friend I met online, from Scotland, told me that the roots can be dried and used to make dandelion root tea/coffee! I know the flowers are beneficial too but never realized there is a way to use the leaves too! Next spring, I am going to stock up on all things Dandelion! I may even try to figure out how to grow a little dandelion garden.
I just made my first ever batch of 100% coconut oil soap (25% super fat), and colored with Pink Brazilian Clay, which I've never used before but I'm LOVING the idea of completely natural soaps! So excited to see how they come out. Especially because it was the first time I ever hand mixed and didn't use an emulsion blender.
I'm slow cooking dried Elderberries now to see what I can get in the form of color from them in my next batch of soap. (May make some syrup for immune boosting too if I have enough left!)
    Gorgeous soap as always!!! 🥰😍🥰
Edit: Can you please share a link to your glass bowl or similar? Google is only giving me options that have handles on them. #usaStuff I guess. Grr! Lol!
