    My rack was stuck and the engine ran away. Luckily I was able to choke it down. Thanks for teaching me how it worked so that I was able to free it up and get things working again.

    Best video I seen so far. This type pump far as I know just required the oil to be drained when the engine oil was changed then you removed the top breather plug and put in a half pint of fresh oil again. I would like to find out what seal fails that allows diesel fuel to mix in the lubrication oil and eventually runs out the overflow drain tube.

      The diesel fuel leaks through the injection plungers(i don't know the correct name for them)
      There is no seal, they are manufactured so precisely that the plungers can move freely but the gap between plunger and cylinder is so tight that not even the high pressure diesel can get through.
      If the fuel is not clean enough the plungers wear out and the diesel fuel leaks into the pump.

    That altitude adjustment screw I call it the county fair screw. So that rubber o ring, good thing it is reusuable so you can turn that screw in when you get to the fair and then turn it back out before you get it home.

    I have this same infector pump on my old Case 680CK Backhoe, the fuel rack is stuck and wont start. Does anybody know how to get it unstuck. I have the shut off pushed all the way in and when I work the throttle lever manually I can feel the rack trying to move ever so slightly when I stick my finger in that access hole in the front of the pump. How far should the rack come thru that hole when the throttle is fully open. Its probably about a 1/4" back in that hole from the front. Please help the tractor set for a long time but it ran good when I was using it.

    I have one that won't shut off unless you push that plunger down hard by hand. Is there a way to adjust this so it shuts down easier?

    you have to lubricate the governor seperate for as far as y know, it has a seperare level screw, and a drain screw, its not lubricated by the same oil as the pump.the big 10mm alan key plug is the filler plug.

      The big screw plug on top of the governor housing is there so you can adjust the breakaway and high idle while calibrating. The entire pump runs off the same oil, there is a hole in the back of the main housing and the front of the weight housing that allows oil to flow through it.

      You are mixing 2 different lubrication systems. One version of these pumps need to be serviced manually, it always has a breather cap instead of the plug at 7:56.
      And the one in this video gets lubricated by the engine lubrication system, so it is basically maintenance free

    Mine doesn’t have that little oil port in between the pump and block. Any idea how it get lubricated

    So the small cover on the back had two adjustments, the smaller one provides more fuel essentially "turning it up". What does the larger adjustment do?

      The larger one is called the torque capsule. This adjusts the amount of fuel the engine gets at the torque rating. The smaller one is to be set while you are setting low idle.

      kraden18 These flat head screws on each and every cylinder of the injection pump are special guide screw during installation of plunger in the injection pump housing.

    Hey, great video. Did you ever make the second one concerning the governor? I'm kind of puzzled to how these work, and can't find much info. I'm working on a JD 4600 that only has 630 hours, but has been sitting for 5 years or so with red diesel in it. I can get fuel everywhere, but it won't pressurize, or come through the delivery valves, unless I loosen them. I'm hoping its something simple, maybe even the solenoid actuated shutoff, but I don't want to take the governor off, without more info, and really don't wanna send it off for rebuild. Any help or info would be much appreciated.

      I'm not familiar with the pump on a JD 4600. If it is an inline pump like the bosch in this video, I might try checking the control rack to see if it move freely. Perhaps it has become stuck sitting for 5 years? Good Luck.

      +Greg Niebergall Thanks for the response. I was able to get it running. The plungers/rack were stuck, but after some soaking, and a few taps with a wooden dowel, I was able to break them free. Now I can't get it to turn off lol. The rack is moving like it should, and the solenoid is too. I'm not usually a diesel mechanic, but its smoking a good bit, and has more knock than it should, so I'm pretty sure its running rich as well. Probably have some injectors stuck open, I'm hoping that may be why it won't turn off as well. Haven't had much time to work on it lately, but hopefully sometime in the next week I'll get back to it.

    Could the shut off be gummed up enough that the engine would crank but not fire? I have a 930 Case that's been sitting for years. How does one go about loosening a stuck shutoff??

      Sounds like the control rack is stuck a little. The shutoff lever runs the rack, if the shutoff is constantly engaged it's more than likely because the control rings on the control sleeves aren't allowing your control rack to return all the way.

    The 6 cylinder pump is it also self lubricating, or do i need toe put some oil in the pump?

    on my Bosch pes pump ( of a Mercedes ) there is a flat screw head in the centre were the square plate is at the back of pump , would this be the fuel delivery adjuster

    How does such an engine advance its timing, under light load or high speed?
    Like old-fashioned petrol engines, using vacuum or centrifugal advance.
    I can't see any way to do it. The injector camshaft is fixed.

    Hello Greg I have the same injector pump control rack was stuck I got free but now my tractor is over fuelling causing it to over heat as it’s a deutz how do I cut back fuel?

      The small screw in the back of the pump loosen the jam nut and loosen it out(counter clockwise) I would advise doing 1/8 to a 1/4 of a turn each time and would set it where u had a little black smoke when giving it full throttle and a little smoke at a load

      I have the same question. Had to reinstall the governor and now when it starts it goes nuts and wont idle down.

      @@FrequencyOfThought you need to adjust the setscrew on the side in conjunction with the screw on top of the swiveling lever inside the weight housing. In order to get to the screw in the weight housing take off the bid screw plug on too of the weight housing

      @@Matthew-hg4fm Wow thanks for the response! Somehow I ended up fixing it and it was the dumbest thing ever. A nut came loose somehow and it starts right up and idles. I now know enough from messing with it I can tune a pump by using small plastic cups and my ear. I don't even need to take it to a pump specialist.. That's how long I messed with the pump.. days and days and hours spent on it..
