Tip: If a loudspeaker (or device) is closeish to the Hub 5 , just place a compass between them and move the speaker. Move them much further apart and see the difference in your conectivity to the internet especially the ethernet conections. I struggled for over a month with serious muti-daily intermittant conectivity. No problem since using a compass to part interferring devices. Please drop a short comment if this tip helps solve your problem.

Step up from the hub 4 to hub 5 is staggering. Only thing I didn't like is that the plug is bigger and made things awkward trying to keep it plugged in the same place as the hub 4 was.

Have you come across the DHCP bug in the Hub 5? I have about 35 devices both wired and wireless and every few days to a week a couple of devices will not be connected and say "failed to obtain ip address" (both wired and wifi). You have to reset back to factory with the pin hole on the bottom of the Hub 5, reentered your chosen SSID and password and the all connect again.

@@techroomuk I too thought by going with GIG1 and having the latest router with WiFi 6 and the 2.5gb port in the Hub 5 that it was going to be a better experience than the Hub 3 where I had to use my own router. So I upgraded thinking at least I won't have the extra cost of getting another more up to date router of my own. Other than the DHCP issue the Hub 5 has been quite impressive, I get a good signal in all rooms of the house and out into the garden. With the amount of people complaining about the DHCP issue I'm not convinced I will get tot he bottom of it.
Another customer said they had to downgrade to the Hub 4 as the Hub 5 is well known for this DHCP issue.
I will try Virgin again, I'll also accept trying another Hub 5, but I don't see why I should downgrade to the Hub 4 to solve the issue. If all else fails I will try static IP's for all my devices and turn off DHCP, and if that doesn't work I would rather keep the Hub 5 and put it in modem mode and buy another router, and get a discount on my broadband package.

It's fine, the rad is always turned off plus if the router breaks they will give me a new one. No big deal. In England we don't really have winter or summer, and u rarely get cold to turn on the heating, I guess it will survive, if something goes wrong, as long as I'm on contract, they will replace the router for free

My hub is coming on Friday, 1GB and will use the hub as modem and my router will be Asus RT-AX86U which I tested on my brothers hub and got consistent speed at 1130mbps. His VM hub 5 struggles to hit full speed.

Terrible for gaming though,, ping is so high

It's the best internet for gaming in the UK, that ping it's because of server linkage doesn't compare to in game. Ping.

@@techroomuk You've made me triggered with what you just said there sir, it is not the "best" internet for gaming it is by far worse for gaming because it uses DOCSIS which is already higher latency than the regular copper which openreach is currently using, which gets far less ping compared to virgin
      virgin > bandwidth
      openreach > lower latency
FTTP > best of both worlds

@@user-ij4ce1kd8s I play call of duty competitive, in 90 procent of the cases I got the best latency on the whole server. With only a few exceptions, ping was never an issue, maybe it's your area bro? I had a 400 quid router that gave me the exact same speeds and ping. Sold it in sticking to the virgin media one. Only community fibre can compete with virgin media right now, also they have doubled their upload speed recently. It ued to take me 3 hours for a HD video with openreach to upload on youtube.... With virgin media it does it in a few minutes. Also I download games from steam with 200 - 600 mbs, ping was never an issue for me. I have my home house connected with smart devices from kitchen appliances, laundry, tvs, wireles cameras, xbox , pc, a few laptops.... I literally never experienced issues . I guess u might be right, in some areas or some other Internet providers might have better ping (in some scenarios) but in terms of speed and reliability.... Virgin is the way to go. Again my opinion and is unbiased based solely on testing other providers, equipment and my experience with vm.
      Hope ur calmer now 😂😘👋
