  • In this video we will be taking a look at a recent Virgin Media XGS PON FTTP install at my house taking up their Gig1 symmetric package.
    Here is the link to my website where I have wrote a few blogs about the journey to getting VM installed and where you can get £50 cashback when you sign up to any Virgin Media package: fttppro.co.uk/...
    Want to thank Commex2000 engineers for a grand job on the pre install and for letting me take some photos.
    Also a huge thanks to Dara from Virgin Media for a great install and for agreeing to let me film him doing the install.
    Also a thank you to Chloe from Virgin Media for all your help.
    Keep an eye out for part 2 where I will be reviewing the service.
    Also checkout my other Full Fibre videos in the playlist on my channel.

      @@nsmmedia a question, why did VM install a fibre faceplate? never that before

    • @nsmmedia
      @nsmmedia  2 месяца назад +1

      It’s part of the standard XGSPON install it’s to enable you to connect a longer internal fibre cable must say I approve.
      Other FTTP installs I’ve seen have the fibre come in and directly connect to the ONT with little to no slack so if you want to move it at some point you need to buy a coupler and new patch cable

    Just had this installed on the M350 Symmetric package and am very happy compared to VDSL.

    I assume you use the Virgin HUB in modem mode since you have better equipment? This is something I'm gonna be doing in a couple of weeks when they install VM into my home.

      Hi Martin, I’m using a WAS-110 SFP+ module instead of the hub 5x due to lack of proper working modem mode see my latest video for how I set it up.

    I heard that with GPON the Max they can gave you is 2,5 Gbit Download and 1,25 Gbit Upload can i get Symmetrical Speeds Up 1 Gig with GPON too,or do i need XGS-PON or AON,greetings from Germany at the meanwhile i have Docsis 3.1 from Vodafone with 1 Gigabit Download and 50 Mbps Upload Ping is very good 5-10ms to the near Server when i test with the Ookla App for Windows i have a FritzBox 6690 Cable with a 2,5 Gbit Port in my PC i got a 2,5 Gbit LAN Card with the Overprovisioning from Vodafone i get around 1100 Mbps Download and 50 Mbps Upload Ping 5-6ms no Packet loss nothing im very Happy but very soon i get Fiber Optic to via GPON then i got 1100 Download and 550 Mbps Upload ❤😊

      Your right that GPON only supports 2.5Gbps down and 1.25Gbps up per trunk port which is usually shared with 32 people. While there are some GPON based ISPs that do offer symmetric usually its Asymmetric speeds on GPON.
      XGSPON on the other hand supports 10Gbps symmetric per pon port/trunk

      Yup and upto 10Gbps I don’t think VM are planning to do any more upgrades to their DocSIS network instead will be upgrading to XGS-PON.

      @nsmmedia  2 месяца назад

      Yup Openreach love sweating their legacy assets as much as they can 😂. They can also run XGS and GPON down the same fibre using combo OLT models and of course swapping the ONT the other end they have run trials for this.

      Hi Martyn nope latency still the same for me 2.7ms to gateway/core router in Birmingham and 6-9ms to London based services.
      Is there a particular site/IP your having latency issues with?
