What is density of the fiberglass cloth? I guess for 1.5 glider it should be 2 X bigger. Several monts ago I tried to do exactly the same procedure, but it was a total mess (problems with wrapping, tape separation etc).
GF is 25g/m2. I had the same problem once and you need to debalk the epoxy with the toilet paper. A better solution would be to use thin PP sheet strips put together with tape to wrap the inside of the boom.
In my opinion No, this method is well tested and gives great results and even better if you use 2 layers of cf UD tape 80g/m2 plus the glass it will be very strong!
Just a quick question or possibly a suggestion. Have you tried to test or weigh a carbon fiber shaft from a set of "Golf Clubs". You can buy just the shafts from any shop online...would save you a ton of time and effort. Just an idea... They are amazingly strong and light as well as tapered already.
Thanks, I try yo work things out with what I have around. My booms are now made from UD carbon tape and its a pleasure to work with. Total weight is around 10g for my 1m planes. Good idea I'll take a look at them..
@@afilos So i went and checked on amazon real quick and Golf shafts are heavy. They are 65 grams at 41" length (or 102 cm). I think you build your shafts at 55cm so a Graphite golf shaft at 55cm would be almost 30 grams. 3x the weight of your scratch built shafts!!! Wow you build that plane super light. What is total all up weight once your plane if flight ready? I am trying to combine Dollar Tree Foam board techniques with your build ideas. Want to get a plane up in the air soon. I think i only have 9 gram servos though at the moment. I will need at least 3 5g servos to start. I am subscriber sir!!! Cheers
I've built at 105-120g max and after few repairs I always end up to 130g. Boom should be max 10-12g, you should go for a light arrow shaft to begin with. Thanks and don't forget to share your build at www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3749159-Scratch-Built-DLG-on-the-cheap&p=49664553
Thanks, unfortunately they dont work as good as dlg for thermaling and also I don't have good slopes near my area so I kind of put these wings aside. The build is straight forward, foam wings and glass with epoxy

Thank you! Its easy for anyone to build it
I saw this done on a couple of vids many years ago - you gave a better explanation of what was going on though. Nice one
Thanks, very easy to follow.
Thanks for the Video!! I just finished my first DLG based on your videos! Hope to build my next one with a homemade boom!😁

Thanks, nice looking glider!!! Nice to hear you caught your first thermal too!!

Is it worth to add vacumm bagging in this technic of creating boom?

Would carbon fiber golf club handles work?
Yes! Better use PP sheets as shown in this video for easier release.
