Ben is always so professional, don't know how he held in the innuendos. Great job in London so far Sonny. It's great to see your take on such a large and popular city.
Gotta say I'm impressed with the expensive pie. Finally the expensive dish in these video's aren't just "hey see, GOLD, and CAVIAR!". I actually was impressed with the craftmanship on the crust. and while I'm not british, nothing in that pie felt like someone just put stuff in for the sake of justifying the price.

And the kitchen gadgets / kickstarter gadget reviews are brilliant too. They've created their own little world, including an app. Can't believe you guys finally did a collab! I hope we see Sonny in the kitchen soon!
Just so y'all know, the last one is called "pâté en croûte" in French and is not that expensive. We usually eat it as an appetizer in traditional French restaurants!
You can buy a gala pie in any supermarket in the UK for a couple pounds… this is basically one of those with foie gros added… then the price is to pay for that restaurants expensive rent.
Here in New Zealand we don't have much of a cuisine but we do amazing meat pies with so many different varieties. Also of course if you were to come here you'd have to try a traditional Maori hangi as well.
Here in New England we have a lot of traditional English dishes regardless of your ethnic background. In other words, you could be Italian, Portuguese, Guatemalan and grow up with those cuisines, but you also learn to cook New England dishes that are traditions the English brought with them. Shepherd's Pie here is a quintessential dish everyone makes, but here it's considered a blue-collar dish which is CHEAP to make. That means you can fill a large group of bellies for pennies on the dollar. A plate or two and you are almost set for the entire day. While most people cook it with the meat and mashed, many include corn or peas. I don't know if that is English tradition or something the Americans added over the years. It also ALWAYS gets served with gravy, no exceptions. In the New England version the meat is basically dry or a little moist, because you then have an excuse to slather it in gravy. It's a working man's meal and turn it into a gourmet dish would not go over well. In fact, you would definitely get laughed at if you were a waiter and mentioned gourmet meat pie for about $20. Here you can get a whole meat pie that would feed 2, maybe even three for about $10.
A few distinctions to make during this episode: - Pie & Mash shops are predominantly "cockney" a.k.a East End, London. (Along with Eels, aren't really found outside of the East End) - Eels are considered a "delicacy" and one of those old timey foods that not many people eat these days - The cheap pie is made with suet pastry on the bottom & puff pastry on the top, which is why the bottom of the cheap pie came across as "doughy" - Shepherds pie is a staple amongst your average weekly working class food, along with Cottage pie, which is basically the same thing except its made with beef instead of lamb

This is so true. Smoked eel is better than smoked salmon, and Japanese eel served over rice (unagi donburi) is sublime, but the East End of London manages to destroy a great product by boiling it. The only people who seem to eat jellied eels are food bloggers on RUclips.
My Wife is British and her Grandmother was a Chef, so my Wife learned a "Little" about cooking. We don't have reasonably priced Lamb around here so she uses ground Beef to make our Shepherds Pie. She browns and seasons the beef but rather than mixing the vegetables into the beef, she layers peas, carrots, beef, and then the Mashed Potatoes. I've had other "Shepherds Pies" over here but my Wife's is the Best I've ever had, LOL!
And French Fries are "Chips", Potato Chips are "Crisps", yada, yada, yada. FWIW, I just told my Wife I've got a couple of People on here telling me that what her Grandmother (a British Chef who lived in Wales) called Shepherds Pie is actually "Cottage Pie" and she started laughing and said "Only the Irish call it "Cottage Pie"", LOL! He needs to have a return on his investment
Pretty sure Burnley isn't in London...
Don’t want to put a downer on things as I love your videos. But you haven’t been to the uk. You have been to London by the looks of things. Try Scotland Northern Ireland or even wales 🏴
I'm sure when you visit Australia, you only go to one of the big cities and not somewhere in the bush.
Imagine sunny trying to pronounce welsh names

Bet they never met the empanada
Empanadas are just fun sized pasties. We beat you to them.
You can find kind of empanadas stands in every train station in London.
Never tried Jellied eels, but I do love me some Cockles and Whelks!
Absolutely love this episode. I was so happy to see Sorted there! And Pie, Mash & Jellied Eeels. As West Ham as it gets!
9:08 is that lee anderson? 💀💀💀
No
Pretty sure it is 30p lee. Maybe he was out looking for whatever other bs he can claim on expenses?
The electric car probably wasnt the reason that he almost got ran over
@@luanasari5161 Ah, a mind reader I see.
Really good to see you trying some proper grub, we truly do love our pies! I'm not 100% sold on the really expensive pie but then I despise the texture of liver. Good call on including the boys from Sorted, I bet Barry was green with envy about not getting to try that pie as he's definitely the one for pretentious food :)
Dragging Jamie along for anything involving meat is a good shout though, he's definitely the man to go to for anything carnivore and stodge related :D
Can't believe it, two of my favourite RUclipsrs doing a very unexpected collaboration. Whenever I'm having a bad day I'll watch either of you to brighten my day.
Damn you! Now I have to go to the UK just to try that “loaf pie”😮
Tator tot casserole is a favorite of ours! It's delicious!
Oh my goodness it's so refreshing to see Ben and Jamie in a collab with you! I've been following Sorted longer than this channel lmao I used to watch them all the time! 🥰
Simply awesome! BEFRS and Sorted are constantly on my feed, to have both together is just efficient!
For the record. The French dish is called Pate en croute. I have a smaller mould/pan that I used several times. Good fun.
You know something's bad when sunny starts describing physical attributes rather than taste :D
I love how in Britain you need to double taste the gravy in order to tell what it’s supposed to taste like.
Two of my favourite RUclips channels in one video!! 🎉🎉🎉
8:56 the power of nice beer and good brakes
Longtime follower, so happy for a bit of a London series.
This is the collab I didn't know I needed
Sorted Food! Love their channel so it was a nice surprise to see you’s work together for this video! ❤🎉
I make something similar to Shepard's pie, but with ground beef, and my kids absolutely love it!
YAY! Ben and Jaime! I was hoping you would have them on since you went on their podcast ❤️
I think it's awesome that you hooked up with Sorted Food! I'm subscribed to them, too! LOVE their show!
Collaborations with the guys from sorted is gold. Hope to see more
So awesome you guys collabbed! I hope they get you on their show
Mashed potatoes and ground or minced meat is just awesome.
And flexible too, you can add stuff like tomato sauce or make the meat in a stew first.
You’ll get stopped by police with an open beer on the sidewalk in MOST of the United States, but can’t forget Louisiana/New Orleans. Which is almost a completely “wet” state and where you can not only legally walk around outside with an open container of alcohol, but where they have drive-thru daiquiri shops. Re-read that last part.
The pies looked great, location number 1 was the best you can see the ingredients how it worked so you can taste how the texture of the pie will be for you.
Chef at Windmill, is my spirit animal. Bless that man! Savage! and Kind! The makings of a King. o7
Definitely rooting for the Shepard pie. Its the only one id want to try 😂
