There is a “shortcut” for the rendering time issue. This is best done on a separate Test channel you don’t care about. Record 20 sec or so of each song you want to upload and then upload THAT video. Takes far less time to render, and you get the same DMCA diagnostics. Then you can pull any troublesome tracks & retry using same method.
I wish RUclips would just copy Mixcloud's model. I'm happy to add the full list of the songs I played and let the owners get paid instead of me. I don't need to get money from RUclips. I just want to post share videos.
Is mixcloud easy to use? And when you mix a set of 12 ish songs...do you simply add in the individual tracks details so you make it clear your just a dj ? Its so confusing
They may be transposing the key the song is in so the the content recognition system is not able to match it to the source material. So if a song is in g m and you change it to f sharp m than the music recognition tool yt uses may not recognize the song anymore. It works or did when they cared about that stuff on soundcloud. I know it can confuse music recognition software but it's no guarantee and you can't transpose every song. Like you couldn't move up a fifth on a song with a female vocal or go down a fifth with a male or the singing will sound wrong. But you can alter female down or male up pretty often and the audience won't notice. I don't play vocal music for the most part so it's less of a concern for me. You need to be careful with pop too. Really popular songs people can often recognize that you've altered the vocal and they won't like it if Dr Dre sounds like a woman. You get a feel for what you can and can't get away with after a while. Open a random new channel unlinked to your main yt channel. Upload a transposed song and see if it works. If it does than bam there you go.
So I upload a black screen video with my entire mix and it's completely public with no restrictions. Then, I spend hours rendering out a 4k video with the exact same audio and it gets blocked worldwide :/
My current record is 9 blocked songs in a single mix 😎. I did dispute a copyright block once as I uploaded a live set using nothing but samples played in ableton. This generated a copyright block but it was obvious all that happened was some producer used the same sample I did. The block was removed. Theres another method you can use which is to search the RUclips database which tells you the copyright status of each track. There are tutorials on RUclips and may save you some time so you don't need to upload anything. *update looks like RUclips isnt carrying that checking service forward....
@@djcarlo I think its still available for now but once the complete change is made and the classic youtube studio is removed thats it. They released a statement saying it was too much work to maintain.
Great video and great topic. My take on this is that RUclips needs to treat better to the community of creators. I think that non letting creators to monetize in mixed content video is a bummer. I get it, we are using someone else music but we are creating something new from that and it really sucks that others are taking all the credit for it. I think that a shared monetization would be more than fair. Think of how many hours of content Djs are bringing to this platform. It is just not fair.

Mixcloud is probably better, I've got over 100 sets on there, soundcloud only allows a certain amount before you then have to pay, I think I've got 3 mixes up there and about 50mb of space left.

I believe the problem lies in most so called "DJ's" play the same 20-25 mainstream tracks that are ontop of the dmca list instead of being creative and presenting new music to the scene.. You people flood your channels with topics about copyright, when in reality all you need to do is simply purchase New music, and not the same as everyone else..

RUclips is always super tough on my Greek mixes I post. So I tend to remix or use other remixes of those songs and then RUclips’s content ID most of the time then doesn’t catch it being that it’s remixed and not the original track.
I took a look at your channel, and I only saw one mix haha. Lots of great 45 uploads though! I'd say it's because they're recorded from the ambient sound, so it doesn't trigger the copyright censors as quickly. Also, individual songs are less likely to get slapped with blocks. I have so many songs in one mix, the copyright censors go to town on them haha

I just can not understand. You buy the track. As DJ - you make more popular the track to the audience. If I do not want any income from the video - what is the problem? The owner of the tracks can monetize from the stuff what I make (ok, from their stuff) - everybody is happy, not? Their stuff appears on more places, can be more popular, can make more income for them, right? DJs do not want to steal their income and not every DJ wants to produce a new track, even a remix. The DJs are friends, not enemies - at least should be. I can not see the logic.

That's totally fine for clubs, but the internet, being a global thing, has more nuances in its laws about playing other peoples' works. I pay for these songs too, and my videos still get muted every so often!

It's hard to answer since it might be a case to case basis, but I'd always try to err on the side of caution! Also depends on how audible the track is. You may want to consider either replacing the track, or disputing it with RUclips. Try uploading it first and keeping it on private, and check in your RUclips studio if anything pops up :)

Where do you get your music files (and what kind of file) do you put into ur video (what video software do u use) and do u put the video with any visuals so that the listeners can watch and hear?
I get my music files from record pools like BPM Supreme, Crate Connect, and Zip DJ. I use Final Cut Pro to edit my videos. I do, with all my mixes! Not visuals per say, but videos of me mixing with annotations on the techniques used. Check them out! :)
Uploaded a DJ Mix, got the same result, most of the Tracks where blocked. Then searched RUclips and found same tracks over 10 times in 10 different profiles.

The mixes usually get copyright struck. But the tutorials, breakdowns, and others don't because I don't usually use the full songs. Transitions, snippets, remixes, less known tracks, etc usually don't get detected!
Because background information is important. Assume that there are people out there too who don't just ask how, but why (which is the first 3 minutes of the video)

I can't answer this unfortunately, as it changes depending on the track and copyright holder. For example, Prince's estate doesn't allow ANY of his music anywhere from what I recall

If you nudge the tracks key up by just 1 you should be ok on Facebook, I did a 90 minute set with no issues the other day, my friend did 3 1/2 hour without getting a copywrite strike on FB, if using Rekordbox you can find the key settings on the drop down with the cue and fx section and use the performance pads to change
@@lloydi4395 ☝️ not true. You just got lucky, likely because the AI Content Manager may have been too busy at the time or any number of other technical reasons! I've played different keys, used edge-filtering, inserted *strong* non-audiable (but machine aware) signal into the feed and it still gets taken down. The AI Content Manager system is very very robust (like Shazam on steriods).

Hmmmm, you may need to either change the track, or shorten the duration of it used in the video. Check the copyright strike as well; it might've been because of the Netflix intro you used if that's the video you're talking about.

It really depends on if the remixes are subject to copyright! If the source says they're free to use, then most likely you won't be risking anything, but you won't be able to monetize the video.
I'll say more: even if you purchase from Beatport, which is targeted specifically to DJs who usually perform publicly, according to the ToS you're still purchasing them "for personal use only".
RUclips will automatically muted your video playlist especially from a popular group and you might get penalized for that. This trick is applicable for sampling the music and not the entire music.
Can i upload songs that aren't on the internet, without copyright strike? I want to rip some of my favorite songs, but that's only available physically so I can stream them.

That's tricky though, because it could be blocked, or you could be one of the first to try using it! Especially if it's in a mix, it's hard to pinpoint it haha
Pretty much the same as on a computer! It's the content that matters, and not the device you're uploading from. Though I'd recommend using the computer interface as most uploading websites seem to be more optimized for non-mobile browsers

I'm honestly not too sure, since music tends to get distorted with home movies when recording found loud venues. I feel like there's a fairly low chance of it getting a strike if all you're posting are snippets, but if you use a studio-quality track there, then there's a high chance of it getting struck.

Oh man, it might because of the kind of music in your mixes. When they're major hits or not remixed *enough*, they set off a LOT of copyright issues. The methods I listed here aren't 100% foolproof mind you, but they've been working for me. I can still see some of your videos though

I've never been blocked on SoundCloud, and I have mixes that have 40 plus songs in an hour in them.
Yeah, SoundCloud is more lenient. But some DJs what to share their mix on RUclips too!
SoundCloud is more accommodating to DJs... RUclips has more discoverability though.

Dude, my mixes never get blocked. Sometimes they're "restricted in certain areas", but never totally blocked like you show.

The algorithm works in weird ways. Heck, there are times I put out a mix, then it gets blocked 8 months later

How can the label or owner allow a channel to use their copyrighted music?
So question- if you can’t monetize- how do your dj mixes make money in RUclips? Thanks
The mixes usually get copyright struck. But the tutorials, breakdowns, and others don't because I don't usually use the full songs. Transitions, snippets, remixes, less known tracks, etc usually don't get detected!
why does it take 3 minutes and 38 seconds to get to the point?
Because background information is important. Assume that there are people out there too who don't just ask how, but why (which is the first 3 minutes of the video)

Yeah, but I find that it sometimes distorts the music in terrible ways. And the algorithm picks it up somehow anyway!

How much of a track can u sample before the copyright ppl come for you.
I can't answer this unfortunately, as it changes depending on the track and copyright holder. For example, Prince's estate doesn't allow ANY of his music anywhere from what I recall

Not a bad idea to shift to Soundcloud (or Mixcloud as others commented). Uploading mixes in Facebook is kinda similar. Trial and error.

I want to know about livestreaming mixes online though, like when live mixing on Facebook or twitch will it be okay or my stream would be blocked or go down :(( would be great for you to give thoughts
They will cut you off on Facebook if they found a copyrighted music being played. As for Twitch, they're more lenient.
If you nudge the tracks key up by just 1 you should be ok on Facebook, I did a 90 minute set with no issues the other day, my friend did 3 1/2 hour without getting a copywrite strike on FB, if using Rekordbox you can find the key settings on the drop down with the cue and fx section and use the performance pads to change
@@lloydi4395 ☝️ not true. You just got lucky, likely because the AI Content Manager may have been too busy at the time or any number of other technical reasons! I've played different keys, used edge-filtering, inserted *strong* non-audiable (but machine aware) signal into the feed and it still gets taken down. The AI Content Manager system is very very robust (like Shazam on steriods).
I do an Upload a song today on my Channel but its blocked. Therefore I remove it so that what I do next? How i upload this Mix on RUclips

If it wasn't your video, it might be gone unless you can ask the original uploader to send the audio to you.

You'll need to go into RUclips studio for that! Every channel should have one.
Can i do a remix with serato studio just? So withouth mixing it actually, cause i have the problem that the sound of every song is always different😅

Hmmmm, you may need to either change the track, or shorten the duration of it used in the video. Check the copyright strike as well; it might've been because of the Netflix intro you used if that's the video you're talking about.

It really depends on if the remixes are subject to copyright! If the source says they're free to use, then most likely you won't be risking anything, but you won't be able to monetize the video.

It’s still illegal to stream them! By definition!
I'll say more: even if you purchase from Beatport, which is targeted specifically to DJs who usually perform publicly, according to the ToS you're still purchasing them "for personal use only".

The idea is the same. You need to know which songs are with copyright claims (almost every thing) then remove the songs in the mix and re-do the mix!
Wait but if you repost a remix you get struck
BUT if you make a remix you also do and the original computer generated remix was not struck

RUclips will automatically muted your video playlist especially from a popular group and you might get penalized for that. This trick is applicable for sampling the music and not the entire music.
Uploading and testing it first comes a new advice to me. Thanks for that.

Can i upload songs that aren't on the internet, without copyright strike? I want to rip some of my favorite songs, but that's only available physically so I can stream them.
It's a big hit or miss, but there's a good chance that if they're only available physically, theyre not as susceptible to copyright strikes
I once uploaded a mix I made. Weirdly, it never got a copyright strike or anything else like that🤔.

That's tricky though, because it could be blocked, or you could be one of the first to try using it! Especially if it's in a mix, it's hard to pinpoint it haha

How do you do it on phone
Pretty much the same as on a computer! It's the content that matters, and not the device you're uploading from. Though I'd recommend using the computer interface as most uploading websites seem to be more optimized for non-mobile browsers
If I'm being honest if I remix music I don't care if its copyrighted by the owners of the music they put weeks of work into it

I made a home movie using filmora to compile everything together of the music concerts I go to when I go clubbing , I put copyright disclaimers in the beginning of my video. Will I get a strike or something if I upload on RUclips?
I'm honestly not too sure, since music tends to get distorted with home movies when recording found loud venues. I feel like there's a fairly low chance of it getting a strike if all you're posting are snippets, but if you use a studio-quality track there, then there's a high chance of it getting struck.

I just uploaded a mix with a song "back in black ACDC" that I saw in one of your mixes and it got blocked from all countries. How could you upload it and I couldn't.

Hi Carlo, youtube just blocked my DJ mixes months later it says blocked worldwide... I recently tried to monetize my channel they denied me and a week later they blocked my videos
Oh man, it might because of the kind of music in your mixes. When they're major hits or not remixed *enough*, they set off a LOT of copyright issues. The methods I listed here aren't 100% foolproof mind you, but they've been working for me. I can still see some of your videos though
