    The RUclips music database I discussed in this video back in early 2019 is now gone. It no longer exists. This means that there is no longer a way to see if your music will be allowed, meaning you can use the song but the creators of the song monetize your video VS using a song that the creator doesn't allow which means your video will not be able to be seen unless you remove the song. This means we are back to the old way of just having to put up a video music mix as unlisted and see what happens...before sending it to a published state.

Its about hot create a mix with music that YT allows me. But im not free in my creativity at all to use the music i like. So i cant post "my mix"

    Hey Blake I have been really puzzled to knowing that youtube doesn't allow copyright music on videos but why is it that people like these youtubers SENSE AND PLAYLIST and BOBBY NSENGA are able to make playlist videos with music that I would think would be copy written? Do you know how this is possible? plus you can look up ex. r&b playlist and find plenty of videos with music that haven't been taken down.

    • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  Год назад +1

      Yeah, a lot has changed, more songs can be played >> here’s the deal, you can include a variety of copy written music in your videos these days in a DJ mix BUT you can not monetize that video. The original artists will get any money it makes because there will be ADs slapped onto it. Things have changed a lot since I made this video, the database no longer exists to my knowledge. Put together a video with the songs you want to use - stick it up as unpublished and see what happens. Likely you will see most songs are allowed but will have ADs on them.

      Fine, if you don't mind your work being used without your permission and without payment. Artists that feel that way about all or some of their music in this context can make it available for such use, just as this video tells us about.
      Otherwise, everything becomes "advertising for the artist", and the artist ends up with a steadily diluted income stream.

    But shouldn't a DJ be able to get paid to DJ? Djs don't just "play" music. A skilled DJ applies talent. Why can't A DJ just credit all the music they play and get a small percentage of what money it might generate? Djs should be able to get paid on RUclips because they are artist in their own right. Those copyright songs available are usually crap. RUclips sucks when it comes to DJ culture and a DJ shouldn't have to suck the corporate c*** to be able to freely play music either. There must be a better compromise we can come rather than the one you are being squeezed into suggesting however I appreciate your kindness. I can't even play a drum n bass vinyl on a hifi deck with out getting threatened on Facebook live. Like why shouldn't people be able to play music freely? Why buy it in the first place? With this copyright logic I should be getting threatened for playing it by myself because I'm not paying myself to hear it.

    • @jimbojankerson5610
      @jimbojankerson5610 2 года назад

      Also I meant to include this but why can't A DJ play music for FREE? getting paid is one thing but why shouldn't A DJ be able to upload a unmonetized DJ video??? Just because the label thinks they should get paid ever time a song gets played? I'm so tired of it.

    • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  2 года назад

      Agree to some of this - not necessarily being able to play it for free if the artist doesn't want you to, BUT hoping that more artists see the advantage in allowing DJs to play and promote their music on social platforms...

  • @robh5695

    Another way of doing this is to make a test track using snippets of each song (10-20sec instead of full track), upload - unlisted > YT Creator Studio (open video) > visibility > view copyright claim status - see which are blocked, remove those tracks, maybe keep a list of blocked songs. Credit to DJ Carlo for this method and commentor Maryalee Scarlet for the tip of shortening the songs for the copyright test track.

    maybe that imagination is different from person to person and that's what makes it unique!! just saying there should be some credit given to the art of djing.. 😪

For people who already have thousands of followers on social media, that´s not a problem. And you can pay facebook or other platforms to engage more people. I think the great aim is not to monetize, some people think about getting money from internet. I see more on the side of creating a value work and fun. I will be very glad if you help with advice and help remove the block for monetization, I do not know this topic well, I shoot my videos and post them on RUclips. my the video is not monetized, and the music sounds and the video is visible but not monetized, in what is my question: these videos that are not monetized contain song and footage from music videos of singers. for information, I engrave eggshells, and I engrave images of these singers, but most importantly, I have written consent from these singers for the songs, music and footage used their videos for my videos, that is: my video contains both topics, my engraving work and footage from these singers, there is even one video the singer's consent was filmed, and most importantly, these songs are not cover, but their official videos and songs when I watch In the description of these singers it says that the owners are some people and companies, can I remove the restriction on the monetization of my videos if I have the consent of these singers? they wrote these consent to me mainly on Instagram, in the mail gmail.com and on Facebook. Will such consent written by singers on such social networks work in order to remove the restriction on monetization? and if they do, what should I do, what and where to write and send so that the restriction can be lifted? thanks for the your reply. best wishes George! we

      Ahhh, that's a tough one - so you received a verbal ok, but the algorithm is still picking up the music and attributing the monetization to the music copyright owner -- sorry, but that's the way it works. You can ask the owners if they can remove the restriction - which they can do, when you give them the video web link, but they probably won't want to be bothered by that since they aren't getting any payment from you, but maybe if you offer payment they might do it? Sorry, but I don't have any good answers for you on this one....generally you need to go through licensing to be able to use someone else's music like this on your videos and not have them claim the monetization for it.

    The database thing seems to work...most of the time. I have had mixes blocked on the basis of one track which I had already checked on that database. For the most part my stuff doesnt get blocked but thats because of the style of music I play, underground techno. If you are wanting to play more popular known tracks its maybe a bigger issue.

    • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  4 года назад +1

      So you put a song on that was good to go -- and then after the fact the track that you used became considered a copyright strike? That stinks, I would like to think that is a rarity but at the same time things could happen between copyright owners to change the status of the music. Great video. I naively did an half hour live streaming with my favorite tracks (all in theminimal techno style) so my friends could enjoy it. I've been in home lockdown since mid March and bored (and broke) to death hahaha. The video remained in my page but muted... I use my iPad Pro and Djay app (it's pretty awesome) with tracks stored within the iPad and tracks from Spotify. Any way, a pretty frustrating experience. I guess I will just hope the covid-19 one day goes away and I can just play at friend's parties because that's all I mean, to make people enjoy it and dance. • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  5 лет назад

      No thoughts - sorry! It's a harsh world out there and with the advances in technology it is hard to fool the algorithms. I presume the content may be allowed on RUclips because they have a system set up to pay royalties to those people whose music you are using BUT that IG doesn't have a system set up the same way as RUclips so they don't allow it. I have no idea...it's all about trying it and seeing what works. How would white noise work, wouldn't your listeners be annoyed by having to hear white noise in the mix? Why not move to Twitch vs. IG and send people there to hear you?

      It all depends on whether the algorithm can figure out what the song is, if it can read that it i a copywritten song, or aspect of a song. The algorithms are getting smarter each year - but yes, if you are really mixing things up, changing pitch, etc., maybe it gets by....

      If the song isn't in the database you just don't know what to expect. Doesn't matter if you add the credits. Basically there are some copyright owners that are ok with having their music played on the various video platforms and there are a lot of copyright owners that are NOT ok with it. Well, as you probably know, you can post anything on Mixcloud -- but that's not going to work on RUclips, I am not sure there's any easy way around the fact that you won't be able to use the same mix for both sites, unless each song is clear on RUclips. Many years ago, I just accepted this is the way things are...for now. I have talked to lawyers specifically about Electronic Dance Music and have had several loopholes and defenses explained to me. For example. I have been told that one may argue that dance music specifically has been engineered for the purpose of mixing and not as much listening. Therefore, when the artist purchases the music it is not dramatically different from a painter buying paint. When that painter is buying and using trademarked colors they are not expected to pay a royalty to the manufacturer when/if the painting sells. There is quite a bit more to this that touches on transformative works ect. But the gist is I have been told that there is a legit defense in this specific case. However, it has never been had to be used from what I was told. By and large dance music producers and labels are not copyright trolling DJs online or otherwise. My lawyer could not find a single lawsuit filed against a DJ for playing a copy-written song at a live event, or for distributing it on a demo cd, online ect.
    Oh! and BTW: If you are only playing songs in RUclips's database then you are kind of a shit DJ in my opinion. You should be playing music that motivates you in a manner which motivates others and not just playing the same boring shit everyone else is playing.

    • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  4 года назад

      The bottom line is that the algorithm is going to take it down if RUclips doesn't have permission from all copyright owners to utilize the song on its platform - and Facebook is even worse...so at the end of the day, doesn't matter because the creators have no control.

    • @AaronAlso
      @AaronAlso 4 года назад

      @@BlakeHeart
      Actually the Algorithm doesn't block content it can't identify and it requires some very specific parameters be met to get a confirmation. There are entire channels of DJ mixes that have not been taken down because the music is not in RUclips's database. (see: Partiboi69)
      And again from a legal perspective,
      all they have to do is secure public performance licenses from ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC. Maybe to offset the costs they charge a small annual fee to the creators that require those licenses to be kept up to date. It could really be that simple. I'm not sure which or how they have compiled this dogshit list of "approved" music but it is far far from complete. With licenses from all three organizations one can basically play any music every released in the U.S.A. in a public forum and for profit.

    • @BlakeHeart
      @BlakeHeart  4 года назад

      AaronAlso but using it for video is different than public performance in nightclub, or similar. I’m not arguing with you, I absolutely believe the laws and licensing need to be updated because many DJs would be willing to pay a fee to be able to play these songs, just as is done by bars, restaurants and retail stores to ascap, BMI so I’m totally with what you’re saying...

    • @AaronAlso
      @AaronAlso 4 года назад

      @@BlakeHeart
      Go read the licensing agreements and various options at the ASCAP website. They actually include licenses specifically for online presentation in both pure audio and audio/video format.
      The problem is, and trust me I've argued with RUclips until I was blue in the face. Even if the individual, you or me, goes and secures an ASCAP/BMI license RUclips will not honor it. Technically they don't have too because the laws require them to have the license not the performer. RUclips could still get sued for allowing the music to be played on their platform without being licensed. The performer would be covered, but not the platform.
