Important update: support.google.com/youtube/answer/6364458?hl=en The Music Policy Directory will be going away with Creator Studio Classic.
As you've probably heard, we’re in the process of moving over to the new and improved Studio. As a result, we're focused on migrating and building features where we see healthy usage with impact on creators’ goals.
This one unfortunately didn’t make the cut. We introduced this Music Policies tool years ago to help creators proactively avoid copyright issues with music in their video. But it’s seen low usage and would need substantial work to be migrated and improved. Moreover, we’ve found that creators are addressing this need by uploading their videos as private or unlisted in order to spot any issues before publishing videos, which we plan to build a better experience around in the new Studio.
As always, if you need free and safe music and sound effects for your videos, check out our Audio Library. We add new music every month!

I hate how RUclips protects huge companies before their own creators. Instead of giving all the money to the company who owns the song, show clip, movie snippet, etc., share the revenue. It should be changed to this: 50% video image, 50% sound. If you use music for example throughout an entire 10 minute video, 50% of the profit should go to you while the other 50% goes to the music label. If say you used a song for 5 minutes of the 10 minute video, then you get 50%+25%, and the music label only gets the 25% from half the video's audio. This would be a lot more fair to the creators on RUclips and it would open up for a lot more fun when it comes to making content. Those dancers who dance to popular songs on RUclips could finally make at least 50% of the profit from their own videos rather than leaving all that money on the table for some music company to take. Just a thought

Yes you can, but you need permission, you also need a licence to do it, but you need to fill out a form and have to understand what you are allowed to do and what not allowed to do
Having music blocked or muted has NEVER happened to my channel. I can’t monetize the videos, but I certainly am not getting blocked/muted or getting copyright strikes. The REAL problem is shill copyright holders making claims on top of the claims by the REAL artists/studios/etc.
*When I upload a video with copyright music I switch the video licenses.* *Example: I switch the Standard RUclips License to Creative Commons License before the video is completely uploaded.* *Depending how long your videos are you should immediately switch these video licenses as fast as you can but IF you're able to beforehand.* *Edit: I use the creative commons license which protects me from being copyrighted. When I upload in the first minute I first switch to that license, then I click save. By the time the video is done uploading I get no copyright strikes!*

What about when your walking in Public and some bar is playing music so loud. That you pick it up while your recording say a travel video? And/or/also what if your doing a food video in a restaurant. Recording what you eat and music is played thru the restaurant? I can not tell the restaurant or bar to turn off the music. Or someone rides by on a bike or car. Playing loud music? That you do not want to hear in the first place? I was filming some Police helping a homeless man right next to a bar. The bar had popular music blasting to the point that all you can basically hear. The Press is protected under the Constution. Which filming in public would be Constitutionally Protected.
Okay if you use copyrighted music will the watchtime from that be counted as illegitimate for monetization or the consequence is only blockage on some country, copyright claim and unable to monetize the video
According to Copyright Law we are a small business in a less than 2,000 square feet (hence my office space is my business space). If you have a radio in the back ground you are allowed to have it. You cannot use a CD/streaming music. You could fight every claim and technically win, or take them to court and sue. If your work space is more than 2k you can have up to 6 speakers in your work space, this is fair use with a radio station btw not picking your music. Source: Google "radio business and law" I'm guessing YT don't care about this law, I want to try it but i don't want to lose my channel over them not following the law. Im thinking of making a burner account to test it.
NidgeDFX RUclips isn’t court. It’s a free platform to publish content. They are allowed to add additional rules to make sure their interests are protected.
It’s the same reason Costco is allowed to stop you AFTER you’ve already paid and check your receipt. You signed a contract to follow the rules when you purchased membership. If a non-membership store forced you to stop against your will they would be breaking the law and you could sue.
The music policies page is no longer at the link you showed at 1:02 Did it get moved or taken down? :( I remember trying it out it a while back. It was really useful...
I just do not understand why using copyrighted music on RUclips videos is such a bad thing! It is not harm anyone and it is not inappropriate! If this stupid law does not fall within the next fews years, we will all be banned from singing our favorite songs and listening to our favorite music in our communities, not just on RUclips! Some episodes of Drake and Josh are unavailable to stream online. This is why I do not trust these present day entertainment companies!
Because if the channel is monetized then the copyright owner needs to be paid also so royalties can be paid properly to the song writers and musicians and even heirs or who may inherited rights to those royalties if the music writer or even person who wrote the lyrics passed away. Its not just about giving the musician credit if your making money from it.
I rarely use music these days but I tend to use music from the RUclips Music Library and/or NCS as both of those providers are the safest paths. I do NOT recommend using musicloops because although the music is royalty free and there is licenses to use and monetise it. I have had problems with AdRev stealing money from my content and I have just blacklisted musicloops from all my creations since 2016.
There are 2 ways as of December 2021: 1. Have a Content ID claim, and it has to be an audio type claim. 2. Use a track from the RUclips Audio Library. It could take a few hours for that information to update in the video's description if it was recently added/removed from video.
I have a question that I've asked many times and nobody has given me an answer so far: I know that, if a copyright claim on a video is disputed and the copyright holder doesn't respond within 30 days, the claim expires. But what I don't really know is: does that mean that the video is "safe" or "claim-free" for the rest of the channel's existence? Or are copyright holders allowed to change their minds and issue a new claim, no matter they lost their chance of upholding the claim before the deadline? My logic about this is: You had a full month to uphold your claim and you didn't, so don't complain if you lost your rights over that particular video's content. But I don't know if copyright regulations' logic works the same way. I hope you can clear this for me. Thank you in advance!
So I’ve been recording covers on RUclips with people’s instrumentals and I keep getting copyright claims. How do I get instrumentals that won’t get me copyrighted?
I used 15 seconds of I believe I can fly (detected as 18 though for some reason) and my 8 1/2 minute video cant make ANY money. I don't make YT money, but it's confusing.
I created a video with music and i got a copyright claim for that. I read the license of the music: You are free to: Share - copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format Adapt - remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially.
Then how some channels upload lyric videos and earn through ad and not some other channels... Using Claimed content can i get revenue from ads and apply a monetization?
Wow this video answer a lot of my questions 😊 thank you so much. You cannot imagine how helpful you have been really inspiring. please continue to share 🙏🏽😊💗

I'm about to apply for monetization, what should I do? Mute the area, cut it out or delete the video? Or nothing happens and I can earn a few euros through advertising?

I have a question: how can some channels make videos like Try Not to Sing Along Challenge Disney Version, with Disney songs, with 20-40 seconds each song, and the video is monetized? I tryied to put the same kind of video with less than 14 seconds each music, and the monetization isn't availble to me. How can I monetize this kind of video? I changed the music tone too and this not worked...
If you're using music protected by copyright in your videos you may run into some trouble. More than likely though the copyright holder will simply claim your video and move on. Start here to learn about RUclips's music policies: ruclips.net/user/music_policies
I don't think RUclips actually knows what tracks are copyrighted... Because I've used certain tracks numerous times and only once it'll get copyrighted... Why can't they just make up their mind!?!?!?
ok but the better question is what about music that is unpopuar. Maybe a small indie band with only thousands of views/downloads. Wouldn't you in essence be helping the band?
Thank you so much for your video. As always very clear cut and informative. and helpful. God bless & have a great weekend. So in the end we cannot use the music. So sad. We are in fact "promoting" their music and artistes are already so wealthy.
Just wondering... If I used some orchestral music from a film, like for example some music from Star Trek, would I be able to have it in a video (this video being about 30secs long)?
Thank you for the advice! In my 15-minute video, I intend to incorporate 4 distinct video clips on various topics. These clips will each range from 30 seconds to 1 minute in duration. I'll be weaving them into a presentation I've carefully crafted. To enrich these segments, I plan to include subtitles, feature my brand logo, and even have my mascot engage with the viewers on the presentation video. The majority of the video will consist of my original contents, such as the initial first 3 minutes, Then, I'll introduce a 30-second to 1-minute presentation clip, followed by another 3 minutes of my content, and so forth. Additionally, I've included credits. With all these modifications and the transformative nature of my work, does this fall within the realm of fair use?

UYS PLEASE HELP! If i wanna start a channel about music generally, can i use copyrighted songs there(its like giving the full credit to the owner) is it possible to monetize such content or will yotobe ban it or what!
Du Preevelle can't monetize other people's work, look into "fair use" to get an idea of what you can use and still monetize
Du Preevelle it depends of the copyright owner and even if you can use the music now, it can change on the future and have a strike. About to monetize you must achive agreement with the copyright owner also and normally is 50/50
@@DirtyGuerrilla usually people get away with putting some beat in the background so that yotube wont detect it

@@switchoff7180 how did u get the license? Did u buy it from youtube?
@@noone5581 I did not get the license
@@noone5581 I used to think that I could upload my videos on my channel without coming to the copyright notice, but after I got to the 1000 subscribers, I understood everything
Crazy because I was actually ready to purchase licensing from ASCAP and when I spoke to the a rep from ASCAP they specifically stated copyrighted music on youtube is already covered and I should be able to use the music and NOT get a strike at all. That is as long as it is not being monetized.
Hi there! Trying to find some answers 🥺 For example, if I have a 10-20 minute video but in that video there is a 5-10 second clip with copyrighted music playing in the background from a radio or phone - will that be flagged or a copyright strike? Is there a time frame I could get away with or is it just not worth the risk at all?
Thanks for your help, love your videos!

This is why some people don’t like RUclips because of copyright
@Akash Kumar the thing is that companies can call your music theirs and you cant really do anything about it
I have had 4 copyright claims on some random music that said it was totally fine to use. I am sick of this.
Yes you can, but you need permission, you also need a licence to do it, but you need to fill out a form and have to understand what you are allowed to do and what not allowed to do
MonsterCat Enters
Doesn't seem like it's worth it
Having music blocked or muted has NEVER happened to my channel. I can’t monetize the videos, but I certainly am not getting blocked/muted or getting copyright strikes.
The REAL problem is shill copyright holders making claims on top of the claims by the REAL artists/studios/etc.
*When I upload a video with copyright music I switch the video licenses.*
*Example: I switch the Standard RUclips License to Creative Commons License before the video is completely uploaded.*
*Depending how long your videos are you should immediately switch these video licenses as fast as you can but IF you're able to beforehand.*
*Edit: I use the creative commons license which protects me from being copyrighted. When I upload in the first minute I first switch to that license, then I click save. By the time the video is done uploading I get no copyright strikes!*
and what is the point of this?
@@canilogin1730 *The Creative Commons License protects you from being copyrighted. When I start uploading a video with some copyright material in the first minute I use that license. And by the time the video is done uploading, I get no copyright strikes.*
I was so happy to see this video until i saw that youtubes music policies are no longer available :(
Okay if you use copyrighted music will the watchtime from that be counted as illegitimate for monetization or the consequence is only blockage on some country, copyright claim and unable to monetize the video

Source: Google "radio business and law"
I'm guessing YT don't care about this law, I want to try it but i don't want to lose my channel over them not following the law.

Not at the moment. You can use the RUclips Audio Library for a selection of copyright free music -> RUclips.com/audiolibrary
I mean as long as we credit the musician I don’t get what the problem is…
Because if the channel is monetized then the copyright owner needs to be paid also so royalties can be paid properly to the song writers and musicians and even heirs or who may inherited rights to those royalties if the music writer or even person who wrote the lyrics passed away.
I have had problems with AdRev stealing money from my content and I have just blacklisted musicloops from all my creations since 2016.
how will you get this??? please i really need to know.

Hi
There are 2 ways as of December 2021:
When a claim is released, or has expired after the 30 day period, the same claim cannot be reinstated for that video.
So I’ve been recording covers on RUclips with people’s instrumentals and I keep getting copyright claims. How do I get instrumentals that won’t get me copyrighted?
So that time I edited a vid from capcut I used the audio music free used it uploaded it and copy right claim L
I used 15 seconds of I believe I can fly (detected as 18 though for some reason) and my 8 1/2 minute video cant make ANY money. I don't make YT money, but it's confusing.
Finally some teal answers I can understand this is exactly what I need to know thanks so much
So does that means youtube will demonetize all the reaction channels?
as they specially use copyrighted clips to react on them.
same question
Man im kinda frustrated. my latest video has a copyright claim but no strike luckily. Im still trying to learn though.
I created a video with music and i got a copyright claim for that. I read the license of the music:
You are free to:
Share - copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
Adapt - remix, transform, and build upon the material
for any purpose, even commercially.
At this point, it's just best to make your own music lol, thx for the information!
But the question is how ?

Hi, I have the message: Copyrighted content was found. The copyright holder allows the content to be used on RUclips.
✔ No effects
The Content ID claim made on your video does not affect your channel. So your account will not receive a copyright strike.
I'm about to apply for monetization, what should I do? Mute the area, cut it out or delete the video? Or nothing happens and I can earn a few euros through advertising?
This video : explain about is legally use copyright music..
Also this video at bottom discription : Music in this video....
Yes - I am so confused how there are creators who use both copyrighted music AND copyrighted video and they are very monetized. I just don’t understand....thanks for the info, tho. Bottom line - don’t use copyrighted anything.
Hmm, points to the video, but he's pointing at the wall... xD
so what if we just want to use the instrumentals of a song.
What you really deserve: 5 mil subs.
I just got 2 strikes for vid with background music in 2 rooms. No monetizing wanted but not wanting a strike either Content was how to save poisoned puppies. One of them was chill cover, playlist changed while 2 rooms away.
Yet, there are sooo many popular "reaction" videos of people with no talent boppin their heads to the videos of people with talent.
you know what to do - go there and exploit the system.
So a question.. People that post lyrics videos .. How they do it? They don't get money for it right?
“We don’t monetize “ * ad pops up as soon as I click*
If it is monetized it is because the original song owner (?) claimed royalties and is now earning the revenue off this video, not the channel owner
Becuase it has been claimed and monetized by the copyright holder
By the way if you're just wondering they can't copyright you if you put the credits of a song on your video
thats not how that works.
It was a joke
I re-edit my video literally until now im in 10th edit now. After i solve my copyright. After uploading youtube chose a NEW PART OF MY VIDEO to block for copy right. Hell men. Is it monetized?
I have a question: how can some channels make videos like Try Not to Sing Along Challenge Disney Version, with Disney songs, with 20-40 seconds each song, and the video is monetized? I tryied to put the same kind of video with less than 14 seconds each music, and the monetization isn't availble to me. How can I monetize this kind of video? I changed the music tone too and this not worked...
my channel is not monetized and will never be!, is my video going to be muted or removed?
If you're using music protected by copyright in your videos you may run into some trouble. More than likely though the copyright holder will simply claim your video and move on. Start here to learn about RUclips's music policies: ruclips.net/user/music_policies
I don't think RUclips actually knows what tracks are copyrighted...
Because I've used certain tracks numerous times and only once it'll get copyrighted...
Why can't they just make up their mind!?!?!?
So if I wanted to use a bunch of popular songs and try to make a mashup and post it, I can’t do that?
Main Question. From where will i download the music from ?
So if u can’t find the song in the directory does that mean u can use it and monetize it?
If you're unsure of a song you want to use, it's best to research it on it's own and check to make sure it's publisher has given proper permissions.

That would be a cover version, read the copyright rules from the tools shown in this video.

Aussies will get pissed because they know nothing about this.
