My issue with this with Copyright music thing is it should only apply if the content creator intends on making money off of their videos that may have a track that was not made by them. But my channel's not monetized, I don't make any money off it so what's the problem with my using a copyrighted song? Is it that it takes viewers away from channels that are monetized? Or do they just not like my adding artistic content to the meaning of their song? My video isn't just non-monetizable it's blocked worldwide. Nobody can see what I've created. I used a song that's over 50 years old. Doesn't the copyright expire after 50 years? It's not like I've got a large viewership either.
There are a surprising amount of bands that are OK with people using portions of their music without permission. A good way to tell the difference is to look for things they have done in the past regarding copyright. A good indicator is which side of the Napster argument they were on. Bands that liked Napster & see file sharing as a way to reach more people, often are OK with their music being used. It may also depend on whether or not you plan to monetize the video. I don't monetize.
@@jckdnls9292 Perhaps. But most of these bands wouldn't do that. But when the artist dies, the rights can end up in a lawyer's hands. So yes, it's a risk. Just back it up on Odysee so if RUclips takes it down, it can still be watched. If RUclips is your job, the best thing to do is play your own music or pay a starving artist to do it for you. Are copyright permissions needed for short clips, like up to 30 second videos taken at a music festival, then put together for a 2 minute video. I do not make money from RUclips, just want to record my experience for my friends.
Sounds awesome but it looks pretty pricey. For professionals it could be a good way but for non professional creators 7Euro for a song is ridiclious. So If I wanna use 4 music in a video, 2 for montage and 2 for background, that means I have to pay at least 28+ Euros for a video, and costs 15 per month so...
I completely understand that but I think (as a beginner creator) it would be wise to pay for one song as an intro and then use free music for the rest of the video. That would give the audience a chance to connect right away since the paid-for music is the first thing they hear and then once you grow and get monetized, start buying more music. :)
I find it ridiculous that Sony will protect the HELL outta the benny hill theme song even though is strictly the most OVERUSED themes in videos, shows, movies etc etc. I wish that theme isnt super heavily protected. I Had To Hold My Patience From Revolting RUclips's Copyright Law's The Copyright's Wanted Me To Start A RUclips Revolution It'll Be A Disaster To My Reputation And To Other's Including RUclips SEPTEMBER 19, 2024
Yet YT pulls ad revenue from aalllll the hundreds of millions of videos on the platform that belong to channels with less than a thousand subs… making money off of our hard work while we get a thumbs up 😂😂😂 but we can’t get away with 5 seconds to reference someone’s song…. makes good sense.
Some channels, all they do is post cover songs! So, I went up on stage to sing a song with a local cover band but when I posted the video online, they gave it a copyright strike. Makes no sense to me…
I get that copyright is difficult and artists deserve the income and respect. But if you just want to use a song for like a little video (even like 20s) then it should be respected as content creativity. If RUclips is so hyped up about this then they should make a professional (RUclips channel) for industry professionals. I've seen thousands of videos that use copyrighted music. It's just a pain if you just want to be creative without making any income from it.
Now the question is why should i buy that song if I own a physical or digital media from that artist in my home library? It's a stupidity. In other words, I have to pay not to get banned on youtube.
Sadly I don't know if this would help me. I use a lot of songs from movies or TV shows to make lyrics for them. I don't get strikes for the unused videos, but some of my videos have gotten blocked on RUclips. Essentially, I can't upload the video or I'll be the only one who can see it. Some songs on my channel, hardly anyone has heard of, and some are really hard to find. I wish there was an easy way to use them. My channel isn't even monetized, so I'm not even making money from these videos. I don't even claim the songs as my own, I always credit the singer, youtuber channel, original music video, anything I can to give them all the credit. It's so hard to do my type of content in these days.
🎵Every musician or band gets cloned and a channel is created with 'name of band' 'Topic', which then often gets more views than the Artists original channel, so personally I actively try to watch Artists original channels. But on yt if the content has a 'creative commons attribution' license it means you can use it as you please and it won't cost you anything, you could provide links to the original in your description as one way of thanking the Artist, sometimes Audio download links are provided for free in the video description, you can find free unique content if that's what you are looking for 🎵

I have a few questions. How long do copyright claims last? How long do copyright strikes last? Do they reset back to zero after a certain amount of time? If I don't care about making money from my RUclips channel and I just want to make a montage for my own viewing pleasure. Can I make a montage with some copyright songs and just say I don't want to monetize this video?
I have two copyright claims in the last 2 days. Today, after I had a copyright claim I removed it and then synced it to actual music you can play on shorts for RUclips. In which case there's thousands upon thousands of artists and songs. Bingo. No claim for Eve 6 Promise song. It may be a pain in the butt to sync it where you're actually singing the song to, but if you're doing 60 seconds or less it's not really that much of a hindrance. So whatever you do don't sit in your car using Spotify and try to upload it because you will end up getting the claim, but I'd you use RUclips music to put on your short that you're singing to you will be just fine😊
I got my second claim yesterday on youtube 😢 is that bad bad? Yesterday I just made a video and my radio was playing in the background.... should I just take the video down or what? I like using music 😢❤

I can also upload me playing drums to a song and it's perfectly fine. I think you can upload a maximum of 30 to 60 seconds of licenced music and not get a copyright strike cause I see a lot of youtubers review new music. So, can I use a song just for my creative efforts getting started? This would be something I would not care to monetize, and I would make no effort to do that. So?
But the thing is, I used a non copyright song from the editing app I used, and I still got copyrighted, and the worst part is, it was only the first half of the video that got copyrighted, so I’m so confused and frustrated about this😐

love how youre pointing everything thats wrong with copyright. Music used in vids that you created promotes their song to a larger audience. They didnt make the video or spend money but get 100% of the revenue because you used a 10 second segment.
Great video Lila and thank you! I was wondering many times about licensing a couple songs without paying a couple of thousands. I've been on the up and up with my channel from the beginning and paying per month for music but ran into some copyright problems anyways because someone claimed it without actually owning the rights. Eventually got fixed but that's one part that is frustrating about RUclips, they don't get involved or care, even when someone pays and have rights and someone else comes along and claims. PS 100K around the corner for you! Congrats you will get your well deserved award soon!

So you'll risk making 1000k videos in 10 years and then the band changes their mind and then your f***ed
@@jckdnls9292 Perhaps. But most of these bands wouldn't do that. But when the artist dies, the rights can end up in a lawyer's hands. So yes, it's a risk. But if you have a vision & only one song will do, I say screw worrying about such things. Any video that is 10 years old has already made it's money. Just back it up on Odysee so if RUclips takes it down, it can still be watched. If RUclips is your job, the best thing to do is play your own music or pay a starving artist to do it for you. My channel is full of copyrighted music. But I'm not looking for monetization. I just enjoy creating.

Some copyright types allow others to use your music/creation/property for free without monetization and so long as they give credit to you.
My issue with copyright claim is that they consider the music to be 100% of the video's worth. The effort into the video minus the music is not relevant to them... and it's a video site...

Are copyright permissions needed for short clips, like up to 30 second videos taken at a music festival, then put together for a 2 minute video. I do not make money from RUclips, just want to record my experience for my friends.
lmk if u ever find out.
Just keep the video private or unlisted it is that simple. You will never have a issue again .
Yeah, so definitively a paid ad video. Tough the explanation is very thorough.
Trust me if you’re creative enough you can use free music and make a banger top g video with any song you can get your hands on
I completely understand that but I think (as a beginner creator) it would be wise to pay for one song as an intro and then use free music for the rest of the video.
I dont even make money on my channel I just upload for fun. I know in years past YT had a rule that you could use songs up to a 30 second snippet that are deemed "copyrighted" but I dont think that rule applies sadly anymore. Oh well guess i'll have to use this way then hopefully Sony can lay off my case
If you license a song, do you just pay once? And can you use it in every video moving forward? Or do you have to pay for each video you use it in?
One license for one video. You can use it multiple times in the same video as I explain in the vid :)
Far too expensive for non professional/small channels
I was wondering same, so 1 license song one video. Multiple songs additional money so 1 video could cost up to $64 if you use 8 songs, is that correct? I’m in fitness. Can you purchase a catalog of songs for 1 price to use in multiple videos?
@@lilafromyoutube I don't know why you're putting a :-) because that's not fair at all to people like me who makes no money on my content at all especially as I want to start having a proper intro even though it technically legally would fall under fair use

I Had To Hold My Patience From Revolting RUclips's Copyright Law's
The Copyright's Wanted Me To Start A RUclips Revolution
It'll Be A Disaster To My Reputation And To Other's Including RUclips
SEPTEMBER 19, 2024
Yet YT pulls ad revenue from aalllll the hundreds of millions of videos on the platform that belong to channels with less than a thousand subs… making money off of our hard work while we get a thumbs up 😂😂😂 but we can’t get away with 5 seconds to reference someone’s song…. makes good sense.
Some channels, all they do is post cover songs! So, I went up on stage to sing a song with a local cover band but when I posted the video online, they gave it a copyright strike. Makes no sense to me…
heres a tip: if your voiceovering speed or slow the music down
I get that copyright is difficult and artists deserve the income and respect.
Too bad it doesn’t have the music I want to use. So back to square one 🙌
But on yt if the content has a 'creative commons attribution' license it means you can use it as you please and it won't cost you anything, you could provide links to the original in your description as one way of thanking the Artist, sometimes Audio download links are provided for free in the video description, you can find free unique content if that's what you are looking for 🎵
Maybe I missed it but how does youtube know that you've licensed the music you use. Do you have to disclose it somewhere?
People have used my intellectual and spiritual philanthropist online for decades. The copyright industries have really done us dirty.
Lila, how does the RUclips Content ID know that you have a valid license to use that copyrighted song?

That's not how copyright works. Everything you create is automatically copyrighted
Yes I do that because I don’t have enough followers and views to monetize
“What, what are you talking about??” I get copyright “strikes” all the time! Unless you’re talking about something completely different zzz…
I take it that RUclips Music embedded in RUclips only allows this to plug into short form content videos?

Yep that’s another reason why you want to use a stock music. Owners can change their minds about the licensing for example which means your content can get claimed. This won’t happen when you buy a chart song license from lickd or get a subscription to a stock music library
There are a lot of RUclips channels where composers share their free music with ctreative commons license for using on any platform and they don't change license type
Do you know any free ones? Im just starting out and dont want to spend any money( partly because i cant)

I think it's silly to be honest, you can go down to the local pub and see a cover band who make money from other peoples songs and it's perfectly legal but can't use a song on youtube? I can also upload me playing drums to a song and it's perfectly fine. I think you can upload a maximum of 30 to 60 seconds of licenced music and not get a copyright strike cause I see a lot of youtubers review new music. Also most artist don't own their music it's the record label who normally owns the publishing rights.
